How am I not surprised at all. First of all, it's really climate dependent. It's mostly about the moderate regions, maybe including the polar regions sometimes. While Hawaii sits between subtropical and tropical. Secondly, it rarely predicts heavy storms, usually just normal weather fronts with relatively light rain. And even then only in a part of the cases that you see it.
Ive known the ring round moon means storm is incoming. The lighter or thinner the ring around the moon is shows the intensity of the coming storm. Its never let me down.
During thunderstrike if you're outside don't go near water, next to tall structures, don't lie down or under trees but don't be in the open field either. THAT FREAKING LEAVES NOWHERE!
1. Its better to be in a field 2. The taller you are, the higher chance your gonna get struck, so pls lie down 3. If the tall structure is a house, since of the roof tiles, your ok

Well technically to be 1 mile away from the center of the storm, it will be 4.7 seconds but rounding it to the closest one makes sense
