His first name was Alan, not Ian. Wrote his autobiography backwards - Owning Up was about his jazz-band years, Rum Bum and Concertina about his time in the Royal Navy, while the third volume (Scouse Mouse) dealt with his childhood in Liverpool. The only omission (perhaps wisely) was his public school days at Stowe.
I have his autobiography, he signed it too. I like The French House the best, but many of the characters have long gone. Tricia’s is still open late too
George was a great raconteur, always entertaining on and off stage, lovely to hear these old jazz men reminiscing ,very funny. Thanks Jayne .
I was lucky to see George perform twice in 1979. I would recommend his book 'Rum, bum and concertina' which is excellent and hilarious.
George was great. What a character. I'd love to have spent a night at the pub with him.
I really miss George.
A real character and a one-off.
This is fantastic
perfect
