I love the switch up from "Youll be learning python and it will do everything for you, then youll move over to C++, which will do nothing for you!!!!" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You need to have Core Math with over 70% (not maths lit) as well as an APS score above 43. www.wits.ac.za/course-finder/undergraduate/science/computer-science/
Is it possible to enroll in data science/analytics honours using Bsc in computer science and mathematics from the other universities. If possible, what are the requirements
Yes, it is possible. Similar requirements to those published on our relevant websites apply, given the degree structures and assessments are aligned with the standard requirements. With a BSc in CS and Maths, you'd probably meet all the background requirements, so I'd suggest applying. Then it would be down to your final grades and your ranking among all the other applicants.
Can I be accepted at Wits in second year computer science after I've taken the first year in a private college ? If yes, what are the requirements? Thank you
You would need to apply to Wits as usual. Once you are admitted into the programme, then we'd be able to look at the specific topics that you have done and award credit where there is overlap in topics and NQF level. However, it is unusual to find perfect overlap between programmes so the odds of going directly into the second year are usually quite low. It would require having completed the equivalent modules for our CS1, MATH1, and Applied Math1 courses.
Do I need to have done I.T or CAT in high school to do Computer Science More so is it something that is advised?I want to apply however I have not done I.T or CAT which makes me anxious that I will be take longer to grasp certain concepts as compared to other students.
I'd advise that you do IT if possible, but it's not a requirement to get into the programme. It definitely helps you when you're in, but there are a lot of schools that don't offer IT, so we don't require it. For 2022, to qualify to get into the BSc Computer Science you need to have an APS score of 43 or above as well as 70% or above in core maths. Note that the process is very competitive as we have an extremely large number of applications, so the stronger your application is, the better. Be sure to apply for the BSc Computer Science specifically, not just the general BSc.
To work in AI, you need to have a strong background in both Computer Science and Mathematics first. The Wits BSc (Computer Science) includes everything you need for this - all the foundational computing and mathematics first - and then you begin with machine learning etc in the third year. Wits has a very strong machine learning and AI programme within Computer Science, and we publish in the top research venues in the world (ICLR, NeurIPS, ICML, etc.). To truly be a technical expert in AI, you need to be an expert in CS and mathematics first.
@@zamandlovu3150 Computer Science is in huge demand. Software Engineers and developers are not going anywhere. On top of that, it also bundles all the skills you need to go into the fields of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, which are extremely important fields going into the future now. Actuarial Science is a great direction as well, but personally, I would go the CS route (I did, and I wouldn't change a thing).

I'm interesting to join online course
Can I be a data scientist if I choose computer science and mathematics?
Yes absolutely! I’d recommend it as the best way to become a data scientist. Try to take statistics as well if you’re able to.

Required laptops for students to bring?
There is a letter with this information on Moodle, have a look at that and see if it answers your questions. If not, email me and I can help.
I see UJ offering computer science with Artificial Intelligence, what is the difference when it is with AI
