Lol my family thinks i am bipolar for criticising and also appreciating bjp for their policies. How the Temple in Puri still standing? Now as per Devdutt ji's own disclosure because people found ways and protected themselves. The ways and method changes as per time and social realty . As per him , Building a massive temple was the method adopted to keep invaders away in 12th century, so erecting the temple was more a political decision right ? Similarly Hindutva is one of that way conceived based on 21st century requirement to protect Hindu culture and its geography after partition of India on religious lines. What the then Odiya king did is the same, basically in different form as suitable in 12th century to protect Orissa from Islamic invasion and Oriya people succeeded actually. Cultural and demographic change is real modern times , get up !

I was in Ganpatyar temple in Srinagar kashmir. The pujari was sick so he sent his 15 year old daughter to open the gate of the temple. We were doing pooja and it took time. Suddenly the sick pujari came and was yelling at his daughter for taking more than an hour. We intervened a d calmed him down . He said he is always afraid for her that if she gets abducted and converted.

What is Hindutva?
India as a Nation was not born on August 15 1947, India is a continuing civilization with a Milleniea old Continuity more than a few thousand years lived civilizational experience.
The primary philosophical thought of India was all inclusive, all accepting, it was never exclusivist and most importantly it never negated the existence of any other philosophical, Spiritual or Religious thought.
However when the philosophies of this land came in contact with Semitic Religions, which inherently are exclusivist,
Which inherently exclusivist are conflicting, predatory and proselytising there needed to be a response by a non exclusive, inclusive faith which can be called Common wealth of Hindu Spiritual traditions, to therefore respond to the agression, predation and proselytising attempts made by Abrahamic faiths which came to Indian soil, A response was made by Hindus at that time, and that in later context was called Hindutva.
*If Hinduism is the potential inclusivity of the common wealth of indigenous thought,
Then Hindutva can be a kinetic effect, which primarily is to defend the Hindu philosophy, culture against Abrahmic-Semitic faiths which is not primarily inclusive, predatory and proselytising*
Hindutva by nature cannot be aggressive.Because the very response of Hindutva emanated to be defensive.
Hindutva is a intellectual, political, socio response of the Hindus to prevent itself and themselves against aggression. Therefore Hindutva cannot be dominating, because Hinduism is a victim of Aggression.
Hindutva by its very nature cannot be agressive, because the very response to Hindutva emanated to be defensive.
Unless we examine and scrutinize the Abrahmic semitic faiths which by their very nature are proselytising & predatory & which by their very nature go the extent of negating other faiths as false faiths, then we must ask questions, should Hindus, should not come up with Intellectual, Political - Socio response to preserve and perpetuate the long lasting way of life.
We can't accept
the false equivalences drawn between two entities.
1. "La ilah illa Allah"

"Victory to Raam"
"La ilah illa Allah" is a negation of the existence of my God, However we won't negate other belief systems.

That has to change for always and for good times to come, we must be asking questions to those followers and leaders of Abrahamic faiths and we must put them to the same kind of scrutiny as put to the Hindu leaders. Does not your Religion at the very fundamental belief believe in dividing the World between believers and non believers? Is that not exclusivist? Unless we have intellectual strength to ask these fundamental questions we will be continuing to draw false equivalences and we will be treating the symptoms and not the disease itself.
PS : As long as proselytising Religions continue their existence as as Proselytising Religions Hindutva should be there to protect itself and not just protect itself but also protect the values that the Hindu society has perpetually held as sacred & sacrosanct & those values are in consonance to the modern secular values that Indian constitution so dearly upholds.

Hindutva rejected caste, regionalism, superstitions and social evils. This is why Veer Savarkar is still able to capture the imagination of Hindus who were constantly beaten down by the Nehruvian status quo. Devdutt patnaik claims they were reformers who held everything in Hindu society as Ideal which is false. Veer Savarkar was critical of all ill practices that had plagued the society like admission of dalits in temples and he campaigned against such practices.
How credible can Devdutt Patnaik can be when he can't even provide proper etymology of sanskrit words that any highschool sanskrit student can.
Hindutva is not Hindu+tatva

Sat+tva become sattva, nitya+tva becomes nityatva, Hindu+tva becomes hindutva. This is how language works.

Agreed but that doesn't mean that he isn't a credible voice. Look at his amazing erudition. And he is fighting for an extremely brave cause. Also, there are several 'historians' who don't necessarily have PhDs in History. One of India's finest historians is Dr. Ramachandra Guha and he doesn't have a degree in history. John Keay from the UK also doesn't have a degree in history. As a student of history, I can tell you with conviction that you don't need a history degree to properly conceptualize the past and analyze it.
Historians are people who have knowledge about history, and not their opinion on it.
