    Engineering schools often require chemistry and calculus-based physics. They also require a lot of math (Calculus and Differential Equations). Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology at Penn College requires calculus-based physics and math (Calculus and Differential Equations). We also do a lot of projects which allow the students to gain confidence in being able to build systems. Hope this answer helps!

    Depending on the area of engineering, it is true that some areas need little actual math. You generally have no way of knowing what area you will work in when you start school. An important part of engineering school is a strong background in math and science to allow the engineering problems to be solved.
    Also, the concepts and techniques learned in math and science, though not used directly in a discipline, are indirectly used in problem solving.

    What I learned after three years of electronic engineering:
    1)Look up how to solve problems online
    2) Stack overflow is your friend
    3) almost everyone will fail calculus the first time around.
    4) if you failed calculus, relearn everything through google and retake the exam

    Computer science is more oriented towards software algorithms and computational theories. Very little is done with hardware.
    Computer engineering is oriented towards hardware design and software integration. There is some overlap between computer engineering and computer science. If you like putting things together computer engineering seems more applicable.
    You can find out more about computer engineering by following the link in the video description.

I'm kind of good at math, and I made a calculator using visual basic -that was my best as a high school student-, or do I have to be like 'Notch' -Minecraft creator; who was somehow able to make his first video game when he was a very little kid-.

    Computer engineers do a lot more than design computers. Very few graduates actually design new computers. Instead the focus is on the software that operates various devices.
    In our Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology major at Penn College, we use small computers and write the software for them to control robots, gadgets, and even automated assembly lines!

    I am torn between whether I should major in Electrical or computer engineering. I love to create robots the most and experiment on plasma and lots of electronics but I also love computers and love to code and make animations, websites, software, and use my knowledge of hardware to be able to use computers to do whatever I want. It's confusing because I love technology period and computers and electronic machines like sensors and robots really give me a high. I also enjoy math, physics, and chemistry ALOT. so which one should I choose?

    • @penncollege
      @penncollege  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +David Shepler You are correct that most engineering schools offer an Electrical or Computer Engineering degree. These schools are very traditional in their outlook. You might consider an Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology Degree. Engineering Technology is closely related to Engineering degrees but Engineering Technology programs have a lot of applications work instead of solving lots of book problems. The Electronics and Computer Engineering program at Penn College has high math requirements, calculus-based physics and it covers electronics, sensors, software and often students use robots as a platform to implement their work. Certainly hope this information helps! By the way, you can experience the Electronics & Computer Engineering Technology program at Penn College by visiting us Oct. 25 during our Open House. • @penncollege
      @penncollege  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You are correct that at some companies, engineering technologists are treated differently than engineers. At other companies, there is no difference. Another option is to attend engineering graduate school after completing your 4-year degree. If you want the hands-on experience, go for it and search out the companies that care about a candidate’s ability and accomplishments, not just what the degree's name is.

    I'm currently a Sophomore in College. I'm transferring to a University in about year after I finish up my general ED and some support courses. I know that I want to go into some kind of technical engineering career. I want to work with robotics or something similar, however my college doesn't have an actual "robotics" major. I'm left with Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology Majors. I'm not sure which of those will get me where I want to go.

    • @penncollege
      @penncollege  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Seth F You should visit some schools and talk to a faculty member to see what they do, if anything, with robotics. An Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology major should do a lot more applications than a traditional engineering school. A traditional engineering school will probably be easier to transfer to since their engineering courses are mostly in the 3rd and 4th year of study whereas in a technology school the technical courses start in the 1st year
      You will also need to decide if you want to work with industrial robots, autonomous robots, do robot design, etc.
      Of course, if you are interested in Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology at Penn College, let us know how we can help!

    • @tmpace9
      @tmpace9 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Seth F I've found that you really can't go wrong with electrical engineering since you learn everything you need to pretty fast and then, your pretty much good. You learn how to read their blueprints, how to use electronics, what they do, and how they do that.

      Computer Engineering is a bridge between Computer Science and electrical Engineering ... In Computer Science one would focus mainly on Software and could often have little knowledge on how computer hardware actually functions... A Computer Engineer learns both Software developement, but also learns the physics that dictates computer hardware.... This video demonstrates is neither because Computer Engineering technology is more hands on, while Computer Engineering is highly theoretical.. Hope that helps.

    • @penncollege
      @penncollege  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Computer Engineering and Computer Science do overlap in that both deal with software, computers, mathematics. Computer Science focuses more on the design of operating systems, video games, and software products. This field is almost all programming. Computer Engineering focuses hardware design and software interfacing to this hardware. Programming is done that works with the design of computer hardware.

      +Joshua Gomez Most engineering programs have a well-defined course of study. If you can decide on what colleges you might be interested in attending you should be able to see online which courses you will be taking each semester you are in college.
      For example, if you were interested in coming to Penn College for Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology, the link below shows which courses you will take each semester. Most schools should have something similar.

    Which is better electrical and computer engineering or electronic and computer engineering ?

    • @penncollege
      @penncollege  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Feras:
      The answer depends on what type of career you want. The two programs can be very similar.
      If you wish to be in the electrical power generation industry then pick an electrical engineering program that has an option to specialize in electrical power generation. If you wish to work with electronics and computers then either program will be acceptable, as long as you look at the coursework of the major.
      Another point to consider is that an engineering program will be more theoretical. An engineering technology program will have a lot of theory but also many applications and you will have electronics for all four years.
      Hope this helps and that you consider Penn College!

    you know it infuriates me when im trying to nit-pick the areas of computers careers to figure out just what i want to do with computers so i can establish a clear path down to a specific degree, but... it all runs together! which make it extremely difficult to have pride in what you do.
    what i mean by that is i feel like the difference between an electrical, computer and electronic engineer is who show up to work that day. you can have the 3 different engineers there doing their job OR you can have only one of them show up and this person could do all 3 jobs regardless.
    i know now after much researching and comparing that i want to be a computer engineer because i like the idea to tinker with things and build things more focused on hardware. but again i feel like at the end of the day its all the same.
    please leave me your thoughts :)

      Engineering is a field that generally allows students to focus their efforts in a specific area while receiving a broad background of technical courses. Henry Ford made the comment that you can train an engineer to be an accountant but you cannot train an accountant to be an engineer.
      If you want to work with software, embedded controllers and hardware, you need to pick a school where that is done. Different schools focus on different areas of engineering. Penn College focuses on two areas: automation and embedded controllers. Please let us know if you're interested and good luck!

    Most students who start our program have no programming experience. Being good at math is an excellent indicator or future programming ability. Programming is a skill that is easily learned if you have a logical thought process and some math skill. Programming is simply telling a computer how to solve a problem you know how to solve!

      Thanks for the question! If a project is interesting enough for the department to want to display or use in the future, the department can provide funds.
      If a student desires to keep their project after its completion then they pay for it.

      +Bf3RapesAll Math can be a problem for many students. There is also quite a bit a difference in the math requirements for our 2-year and 4-year degrees. You can decide which degree works best for you. A student who works hard, spends lots of time studying math outside of class, and visits the tutoring center, can often get though the math so they can work with the robots and other computer engineering stuff which is neat! Consider scheduling a campus visit to learn more! www.pct.edu/visit/
