This was my shower song before going to see my first love on the daily. Mixed with some Bag Raiders The Wake and Holy Ghost. Didn't hold onto her but you have your mom till the end. Appreciate those/these moments
Discovering Joy Division and New Order was like breathing oxygen for the first time. I can't even describe what these two bands mean to me. Its like breathing.
1987 I was stationed in San Diego and used to blast this on my little car cassette player, when it first came out. Edit: I still blast it. Still sounds brand new, like the Perfect Kiss.
Agreed! I have a playlist of songs with great outros I've titled "Epic Endings". This extended version is on it. Others include "Instant Street" (dEUs), "Comforting Sounds" (Mew), "Ceasefire" (Carter USM), "Happy Home" (Garbage), "Church Not Made with Hands" (The Waterboys), "Seize the Day (Liberty 37), "Love Me Madly Again" (Bryan Ferry), "Sleepless" (Cradle of Filth) amongst others, including live versions of some songs.
This song was one of many NO songs that bridged dance and alternative and made them so special. If you want to know what they were playing in the clubs it was this and it was f'ing awesome.
It's a spectacular remix. 👍 "I was there" when this was in the clubs. All music ended circa 1989, and what's good today hearkens back to the New Wave/Synth/Techno/Industrial/Dance/Goth of the 1980s.
@@MrKenBJs Well said. I hear NO, Cure, Depeche and many others in today's alternative and I love it. I only wish we had camera phones back then to capture some of my crazy club nights.
I was living in Athens Greece when this Album came out... in the 80's.. All of the Greek Isle's nightclubs played the heck out of this album.. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!
@Variable Volume saaaaame here. Mid 30s . love NO but nvr heard this til thiz past summer while at work jammin out (empty building) yet feels so nostalgic to me n reminds me of a girl i would (want) to share this tune with
.... As a field biologist, I always envisioned all of us, everyone, singing our hearts out for a little love, ..... I guess I have more critters in my backyard serenading one another than most
Glad you finally discovered some great 80's music . But there's much more there than New Order . Some bands you might enjoy ; Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark , The Ocean Blue , Depeche Mode , A Flock,of Seagulls , the first 2 albums by REM (Murmur , The Reckoning) , The Smiths...too numerous to mention them all . Good luck and much enjoyment in your exploration .
not all that glitters is gold ... but sometimes when I listen to songs like this, with so many layers stacked on top of each other, I can't help but wish to be part of creative processes like these
YRICS I stood there beside myself, Thinking hard about the weather Then came by a friend of mine Suggested we go out together Then I knew it from the start: This friend of mine would fall apart Pretending not to see his gun, I said "let's go out and have some fun" I know, you know, you believe in a land of love I know, you know, we believe in a land of love I have always thought about Staying here and going out Tonight I should have stayed at home, Playing with my pleasure zone He has always been so strange, I'd often thought he was deranged Pretending not to see his gun, I said "let's go out and have some fun" I know, you know, we believe in a land of love I know, you know, we believe in a land of love When you are alone at night You search yourself for all the things That you believe are right If you give it all away You throw away your only chance to be here today Then a fight breaks out on your street You lose another broken heart in a land of meat My friend, he took his final breath Now I know the perfect kiss is the kiss of death 4
This version, the original version of this song, is hands down my favorite. It has so much going on musically in the eight-plus minutes of the entire track.
I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG, ALWAYS HAVE!!! I mean the first min of this song is just mind blowing! Start with some jungle like beats then go into a drum beat then an bass guitar riff, then a hard dance beat followed by an awesome synth riff then into the actual song....I mean the genius that these guys and girl had at that age, WOW!!!!!! AND who, WHO has ever sampled Frogs in a mix????? Genius!
@DAVID MARTINEZ >> YA ABOUT DEM FROGS. IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN, I BELIEVE THOSE R THE SAME FROGS ..THAT WERE CAST 4 THOSE 90"S BUDWEISER COMMERCIALS.. KERMIT & HIS FAMILY JUST DIDN'T CUT IT AT THE TIME !!!
The soundtrack to my late 90’s teenage Jersey Shore adventures! Thanks to my older siblings, turned my friends on to them! You’re welcome New Order! Love ya!
I agree with you so much. I have never knew someone who voiced the same thought about this as I do. I remember driving at night into Montreal in 1988 from a long trip to this, it was almost poetic with the lights of the city and the pulse of the city
When I was first listening to New Order, I heard the shorter version first before I eventually heard the longer version. At first I didn't like it hearing it the first time but now I love it so much
Heard this version at the 930 club in Washington DC. We went out and had some fun! The shorter version should be buried. The Dynamic music video which the late Jonathan Demme directed is also the long version and Live!!!🤗🤗🤗
Football focus used this for a promo for the 86 world cup ....it was awesome ! ....a pre cursor to "world in motion "😊 Takes me back to those golden early days of Rave.
My fave New Order song above 40 other beloved NO songs, especially the Substance mix. I think of this song paired with Pet Shop Boys’ Suburbia. Frogs vs. Dogs.
Peter hook on bass and frog sound. Master at his craft! Infact all were brilliant and like in a trance during the filming of the video. Directed by Jonathan Demme, Director of Silence of the lambs and Philadelphia.
Love new order one of England 🇬🇧 best bands grew up in the 80s there music 🎶 was always on TV 📺 ❤ them 👍🏼 play there music always x thanks New order for all memories 80s were best decade for music ❤❤! Xx
I remember when I had the Substance album on cassette. I was a senior in college. I can’t believe it’s been so long ago. It’s such a cliche, but time really goes by in a flash….
Happy Birthday G! When I hear this it's all i can do is to think about you. I only have fond memories of you when I hear this song. The tingles move up and down my spine. Just so you know i'm making the same kind of memories with vincent as you did with me. This life is so bittersweet but mostly sweet. Until we meet again! Love you dad.
In 1985, you would not really fancy loads of Brummie and Manc lads in the same room, the Tower Ballroom, Edgbaston, no problems, the power of New Order!
I remember hearing this for the first time in 1987 on the album after 'True Faith' was released. Not really heard any NO stuff other than Blue Monday (which I didn't like) I was reading 'The Mote in God's Eye' when this was on - life memory! Shellshock was also a revelation

From 6 mins onwards I genuinely do not think there is a better piece of music ever written. Pure 80s magic!
agreed! fab tune to drive to
I had this CD on as a 16 year old on a school trip, while everybody else had on Rick Astley. .. I'm the weird one with no musical taste?.
Totally agree.. so disappointing when this song came on the radio and it would end before the 2 min outro.. its the best part!
A masterpiece by a genius band. Still my fave New Order song
Agreed. My favorite too.
Mine too, especially the Substance mix.
Agree but blue monday is a masterpiece song too!!!
my mom loves new order and i really enjoy listening to music like this with her 💖 she means so much to me

Where you been? Nothing like the 80s. Never to late Welcome! 👍
*Do you think you have slightly overstated and engaged in hyperbole, by any chance?* 😆
How do somebody even knows how its to breathe for the first time, tf kind of analogy is this?

At 5:57 the song rises to a crescendo in an epic, breathtaking, monumental finale. New Order's masterpiece.
it's orgasmic! have you ever seen them like, they do an entire concert like that

@@dickiefears5832 May I suggest The Start of the Breakdown by Tears for Fears as well? I love the way that song goes out. So melancholy.
Agree totally. This song was a staple back in the day in Orlando and when this part would start the energy on the dance floor changed. It was amazing.
EPIC!!!!!

I was living in Athens Greece when this Album came out... in the 80's..
All of the Greek Isle's nightclubs played the heck out of this album.. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!
To me, this album and single was their last great hurrah.
When you have a song that moves you then you want to analyze how it moved you and why - that's a brilliance that does not exist any more.
This song helped me through some rough times... not recognized enough as the classic tune it should be.

This song was 18 years old for me. 24 now. Skateboarding and falling in love with this as my backtrack...good times for me dude
Completely Agree. It's a staple.
“Pretending not to see his gun, I said ‘let’s go out and have some fun’”
That underlying frog croak suggests a perfect kiss will turn him into a prince charming..
WOW! I never thought of that, thanks dude!
Ask Gillian, she probably composed that part of this GREAT SONG.😉👍🏽😸
Quinn W. Johnson if was Stephen who did and he confirmed it on Twitter
Peter hook at it's finest!

4:58-5:43 has a magical quality to it that sets this song apart. Beautiful.
I remember buying this on vinyl, what an album,a masterpiece.
wow I got aware of this group just today
starting 2022 with an incredible inspiration from the genius 80's band

YRICS
I stood there beside myself,
Thinking hard about the weather
Then came by a friend of mine
Suggested we go out together
Then I knew it from the start:
This friend of mine would fall apart
Pretending not to see his gun,
I said "let's go out and have some fun"
I know, you know, you believe in a land of love
I know, you know, we believe in a land of love
I have always thought about
Staying here and going out
Tonight I should have stayed at home,
Playing with my pleasure zone
He has always been so strange,
I'd often thought he was deranged
Pretending not to see his gun,
I said "let's go out and have some fun"
I know, you know, we believe in a land of love
I know, you know, we believe in a land of love
When you are alone at night
You search yourself for all the things
That you believe are right
If you give it all away
You throw away your only chance to be here today
Then a fight breaks out on your street
You lose another broken heart in a land of meat
My friend, he took his final breath
Now I know the perfect kiss is the kiss of death

The most perfect bass and synths ever!!

I think Freur may have done it in their song "Doot Doot" from 1984.
This song is timeless.
The soundtrack to my late 90’s teenage Jersey Shore adventures! Thanks to my older siblings, turned my friends on to them! You’re welcome New Order! Love ya!
This is one of the best Album of New Order Substance 87 by far
Sigue conmoviendo desde principio al final..... Épica!
The best of the best... They have been with me for over 30 years and I want Perfect Kiss on the day of my funeral.
My most favourite song of the 80s.
6:13 the most epic outro song I've heard
I agree with you so much. I have never knew someone who voiced the same thought about this as I do. I remember driving at night into Montreal in 1988 from a long trip to this, it was almost poetic with the lights of the city and the pulse of the city

James McGraw boomer
Bought the album..Cassette format..1987....this tune lives with me forever
Unfortunately this version isn't on ITunes that I can find ..as you said the outro makes it , can't find a version with it.
