Over a decade of listening to this song and Regina being one of my favorite artists. I used to have it downloaded before the age of music streaming services, and all of my downloaded music is long gone, but not my love for this song or all of Regina’s older music.

The fact that this was never formally released and can't be found on any of her albums or streamed on any app just kills me inside. It's one of my favorite songs that she has written, it's just so tender and vulnerable in the best way, like she knows how to really be human in a world of perfectionism

This song makes me cry and I don't know why.
When the Aquarius tries to do their job, this one realizes their not skilled at carrying water(metaphorically speaking - keeping balance in the ones we hold true or the balance of other sorts). But the one thing that this person learned to do is to carry love. So no, don't be sad - it's a way of living. To acknowledge, to learn from, and move on the way you left off before the water - before the spill.

I've got a live version of this song , at one point she's very clearly crying. Her vibrato goes kind of hoarse, she says 'sorry' very quietly, and she sounds on the verge of tears for the rest of the song. aww Regina :(
My sincerest thanks to whatever person made and shared this recording so many years ago... I don’t understand why Regina hasn’t made a studio recording of it. One of my favorites for sure, even with that little mistake 2/3 though the song :-)
There is a 100% perfect version of her playing on broadway at the lunt fontanne theater a few years ago.
coming from an aquarius, the meaning of this song to me is about how we can be distant, difficult to figure out, but have trouble figuring out everyone. Maybe thats the way it's suppose to be. The song moves to 3 lines of how we feel and the line "but I have never questioned if I've loved" describing why our sign is special, cause we instinctively cherish love over all.

Music is subjective, I think the water she never learned to carry was a metaphor for relationships. The tighter you clench, the more you lose. I don't think this song has anything to do with astrology

Throughout my teens and 20s I noticed that it was a perfect analogy :)
It's not about astrology but it makes a great metaphor because it's wild how well it matches up with astrology

I've been clicking on Regina's songs for at least an hour now...adding most to my favorites...Now...understand this, I'm a dude..and I'm glad...but if I had to a woman...Regina is who I'd want to be...I'm pretty sure she could gather enough fans to "crowd surf" all the way around the world....hope she passes over me.....

The only person I don't go along with, My BEF ( Best Enemy Forever ) is an Aquarian before me knowing he is. But I have a close friend (Aquarian) who likes listening to me, talking to me, open up to me and even we knew we're different, we respect each other's take. We always laugh (real one, like the noisy one without caring for other people hearing us, we're like dying laughing for 5 hours) and if she want's a person to go along having tea with her, I'm on the top 5 of her list for sure. It's amazing cause we're not always together or best friends, we're like just a friend, we see each other like 1 time per 2 months.
All her music is beautiful, its not just written to please people, but to carry meaning. I like that

Hmmm....I wonder if the water signifies emotions, ice as emotionless, because those are the traits of an Aquarius. She's saying she's not good at figuring out her emotions, but she's learnt to be in love, and has fallen as far in it as anybody ever could... Maybe its just me.

I guess to sum it up, She realizes that no matter how much she accomplishes or how hard she falls, if she loves herself and uses love for what she does for others, then thats all that matters in the end.

This is a very nice song to listen to. I usually do not have the time to pay attention to the meaning of the lyrics, but that is all right because the song itself has a very relaxing melody and Regina Spektor has a very nice sounding voice as well.
I always picture Eridan singing this song while sitting somewhere in the veil, right after he kills Feferi. The person watching from the shadows is Gamzee, and Eridan is just thinking about what he's done. It fits together so perfectly in my mind.

i don't think that's the idea behind this song, Regina even said she "doesn't believe in this shit" her words not trying to be vulgar, its more about her and her experience and she went on about how the power of suggestion makes you think something fits you and she has been labelled Aquarius, so she satirically put that as the title.

The 2nd verse is about understanding ourselves more deeply and struggling to grasp the meaning in our hands, when it's in other places that inhabit us and effect the people around us by the way we act, and she is realizing it. The 3rd verse she feels no matter how much she gives with her hands, loses with her hands through her piano work she will never be satisfied, and theres always something giving her water on her head, no matter how much she has or loses.
this reminds me of standing in the rain...like the color perriwinkle...and of pine trees..i know i'm weird but the piano sounds like the pattering of rain in the background

i just feel like with most things the human experience is summed down to physical realities. Why can't our emotions change with the tides and why can't we have the freedom in finding comfort in the stars as storytellers or gurus of some sort. my whole ordeal with the pseudoscience debate is that if something like astrology makes sense and you find solace in it then let it be. i guess my earlier statement was bold but i don't like seeing people trying to dissuade others from their beliefs there's enough influence in the world as it is. well "sadness" is a very vague term I don't think we know the full extent of our emotions enough to give them a firm definition..yet as we are a young species... words are just something we created to express our connection to each other... as is astrology and many other things.

Its not very intelligent or logically minded to have a strong opinion about something without researching it fully and with appropriate sources. Many I have spoken to have based their strong opinion on astrology, on reading horoscopes, which are not an adequate source to build such a firm opinion on and that itself is ludicrous, almost religiously minded rather than any analysis.

Unfortunately she gets compared to other female pianist/songwriters who mainly do autobiographical songs of love and love-gone-bad. Regina's songs are sooo much more. She's got love songs too, but also songs about death row inmates, bank robberies, alien invasions, assassins, and every aspect of daily life. Comedies, tragedies, histories, dramas, fantasies. Listen and love.

I know and agree - but you know, sometimes when people love something especially, like this song for example, I guess they want to feel like it belongs to them, somehow. Or, like there's some sort of OBJECTIVE connection between them and the song, not a connection that comes out of them loving the song.
To me, it seems very sweet and natural thing for a person to do.

For those wondering why she says "sorry," it's because she hits a wrong key on the piano and then loses her place. The reason it's hard to tell is because she pulls it off really well and this is the only known recording (so we have nothing to compare it to).
