@tonias82 My personal interpretation is that her life is hard (as is everyones) and in this one bedtime snack she finds happyness and serinity for just a little while. Because of this she thinks that she has discovered how to be forever happy, but the next day she realizes that no one thing can make you happy. You just have to accept that life has ups and downs, and that everything is just what it is, the meaning it has to you is really something you made up.
This is so beautiful, and I don't even know why. One of Regina's best (and underrated) songs.

I do agree! pickle is just an excuse to tell how we fall in love... We are doing ordinary and suddenly "A jar of pickles catches the eye / Made eye contact with a solitary pickle".. I feel like 'love is the answer', but is also an awkward feeling. It's so hard to say what love is, but she captures and sings in a way that makes you understand and share the feeling... That's why I love her songs, she's so talented...

I think this song is about her being insane and falling in love with the pickle [jar]. if you read the lyrics, you can see that the pickle jar catches her eye, so she takes them home and falls in love with them.
the next day, she is excited to see the pickle jars again, (i hadn't been this happy in a long time) but she realizes that she cannot love the pickle jars (they aren't smiling back). and pickle jars are just pickle jars, and pickles are just pickles.

okay, everyone knows that every time we listen to a Regina song we want to know exactly what its about, why it was written, where the lyrics came from, etc. but as fans of such a complex musical artist, we have to stop and just keep an open mind. none of her songs will ever have a clear and exact interpretation no matter how many different ways you analyze or listen over and over.thats just how it is. and i hate to break it to you guys, but i think thats the way she wants it to be. ;)

@seizetheday224 I think she doesnt asign just one interpretation just so that people CAN interpret it as they like. Not because she doesnt want any meaning to the song, but she wants people to infer their own meaning. She makes her songs open ended, that way you can aply it to your life and how you percieve things. What is a song but for the way it affects you and how you see something.
