I bought my classic 500 precisely because of its imperfections, the long stroke push rod engine, the lack of a counterbalancing shaft, the old school hydraulic lifters, the ancient appearance, all of these are the reasons I pulled my wallet out and bought one. It's a motorcycling version of Jurassic Park, an anachronistic motorcycle that died fifty or sixty years ago everywhere in the world......except for India, where the particular conditions there led to its survival.
It's a giggle machine, I ride around the back roads near my home wearing an open face helmet and split lens goggles putting on my best Battle of Britain lines, "Bandits at twelve o'clock low". "Roger that skipper, I'm going in.....". I've never had so much fun riding a bike as when I'm riding that little dinosaur.

Yet another brilliant & splendiferous video and I totally get the way Bertie makes you feel. I own a Meteor 350 & love that bike to bits. I bought a 2019 Bullet 500 Trials six weeks ago & the bike is a real blast & great stress buster. I've done nearly 2000 miles on it in six weeks, can't leave it alone.

Well, who DOESN'T love bertie? A 1 cylinder Royal Enfield 'dream machine'. Your friendship w/ Bernie is what I like the best, though. It's earned by washing, drying, servicing & paying attention to it when riding. Not every bike becomes a friend, some remain aloof, some are not friendly at all? That relationship gives you confidence and allows you to explore Bertie's limits more freely.
Congratulations -- it's quite a bike, Mr. TAYM!

Bertie almost got off the leash at the end there, he's got a bit of spirit! Totally splendiferous review on wonderful bike. Love the look, proper old school stuff, how bikes are supposed to be. Just remember when you do the taste test to check the top of the mudguard (the shiny bit), because the bottom side is where the doo-doo lives, and will upset the results with a false reading...

Beautiful review, I think you summed it up with the bit about how he relaxes you and calms you down. They do become part of the family and I doubt I'll ever part with mine (even though he is an older version). Yes its true they need a fettle from time to time, and buying shares in Loctite might be prudent, but overall the reliability seems good for an old thumper. Well done Bertie👍

    Thanks TAYM.
I always lusted after the Classic 500 when they first came out, but I was still in the midst of my trauma with my evil Bullet 500.
I just didn't feel confident about buying another RE at the time.
But over time the Classic 500 proved to be a well made and reliable bike, which leaves me regretting never having bought one.
It would have been like the Bullet 500 on a really good day, but better, smoother and with a lot less spannering and swearing involved.
As much as I love the Classic 350, I do miss the extra torque of a 500, particularly when going up steep hills or riding into strong headwind.
I am slightly jealous of those of you who managed to get a Classic 500 whilst they were still available. Only my terrible experience with my Bullet 500 stopped me from buying one back then !
I can well imagine that this is a "keep it forever" motorcycle !
Cheers TAYM, nice to hear what I missed out on ! 🤬

Thank you for you very considered and open comment. I have heard some horror stories about the older 500s and 350s but also some very good reports. It appears that there was a clear issue with quality control back then. What ever issues they had they vastly improved with the 500 classic and even more so with the reborn 350. I am considering changing Bertie into 612 cc monster 😂😂 with the kit from Hitchcocks. Just not sure at the moment 😊 I don’t want to change his character too much but can you imagine 😊😂😂😂 love to Ruby 🐕🐕❤️🐕🐕

"You do need to service them. what you get is a friend."
That was beautiful. You keep Bertie in such top shape! He is a looker.
The 2017 Bullet I just picked up needs some extra TLC but I can tell we're buddies already.
Did I tell you that the previous owner is loosing their vision? In an effort to ride in low light she had LED headlight and turn signals installed along with new lights for the instrumentation... and it all works. Looks mighty different for a very retro motorcycle and I thought I should change it back but I don't think I will, unless they eventually give me trouble.
No, I think I'll name him Mr Magoo. 🤓

Well I own Berties cousin, as you may have seen on this channel. I call her Gertrude (Gertie for short). First time I've ever given a bike a name. I've owned nearly 50 bikes in 45 years of biking. All sorts - classics, tourers sports bikes. I've had em all and Gertie is the one bike that puts a bigger smile on my face than any of the others. I will never sell this bike as it epitomises the very essence of motorcycling. A truely viceral experience and I love it warts an all. 😍😍

Perhaps had things been different, like riding all year and thus washing on a regular basis and a roof over it's head.... The classic 500 is certainly the last of the 'true' ties to old school thumpers of the british era and are full of character, as Warro will attest to, they all differ a bit - some are a nightmare some are fantastic when it comes to vibration.

I’m looking at a 2016 now in Florida but cannot find a value anywhere are you able to give an approximate it’s has 2500 miles and I’m not sure if it’s worth the asking 4000 US

Thanks JF 😁 over here in the uk they go for between £2,500 to £4,000 😁 have you had a test ride?

    • @johnfountain8588
      @johnfountain8588 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks for the response and I haven’t had a test ride yet I plan on it this week coming I’m thinking the price is on the high end but it does include the correct pannier bags and rack also a custom leather sprung seat and actual miles 2200
      Stay safe regards from Florida

@@johnfountain8588 good luck John 😁 just don’t expect too much and enjoy the ride 😁 they are like a Time Machine 😁 like a trip back to the 1950s 😁

Don't bother with the trials version. The standard can do everything the trials can but you cannot fit standard pannier racks on the trials and if you modify racks to fit, the exhaust gets in the way.

People pay a fortune for old british motorcycles. Then they keep them in the garage as a showpiece. The 500 bullet gives you all the old charm with fuel injection and disk brakes and for a price that lets you use them everyday.
