  • We journey to Northern Ontario near the town Red Rock to search for large coaster brook trout in Lake Superior. We are the hosts of Bowman Island Charters. Great show with lots of information on this beautiful destination.

That is some excellent looking water. It's a good thing these places still exist.

Now if only every angler would handle fish as expertly as displayed here. There would be far less post catch mortalities.
Excellent example being set by these two.

Hey wondering why you guys call the brookies a "speckled trout" ? Then later you called them "coaster brooks", then later you called them brookies? What are the differences? In any case, beautiful fish and some great sinking fly line techniques! Cheers! Chris

The term "coaster" brook trout refers to a special genetic strain that lives in Lake Superior and the Nipigon River. These brook trout, also known as "speckled trout" or "square tails" can grow to size of 8-10 pounds, which is far above the norm. Hope this helps and thanks for kind words.

Is Bowman Island Charters still in business? All I see on their web site is 2016 info.

Hi, outstanding videos. I love this channel. Our local PBS airs your shows on occasion and it was always like 430AM. I'd get upset if I overslept. I can't believe out of 87 views there's only 3 likes, one of them was mine. I know you've given more detail on equipment and how your flies are tied in previous episodes. I think you should have a segment in each video you produce. I realize some of them are generic or well known but that sculpin pattern looked interesting. Was it articulated? Do you go into more detail on your website? Thanks for your excellent productions.

Joe, thank you for the kind words. This is an older episode that we shot over six years ago. Today we have standardized the format and the information we include in each show. The articulated scuplin pattern is the Zoo Cougar invented by Kelly Galloup. If you do a search of TH-cam, there are numerous flytying videos for both the single zoo cougar and the articulated. There is even a weighted version of the fly available but out favourite is the original or articulated Zoo Cougar. Thanks for watching and please let all your fellow anglers know about our channel!

+The New Fly Fisher Hey, thanks for the reply and explanation! I do know that fly, and I flipped out when I saw it in a magazine many many years ago as I was tying and learning a lot of different patterns and techniques. I subscribe to K.G's channel also. However I did go to your website and tried to subscribe to the newsletter and the magazine but it kept on telling me to put @ after my last name. I left after 3 trys. I filled out the required information in the proper spaces but couldn't get past last that confounded @ ! I was very disappointed to say the least. I've subscribed to a number of other similar sites and never had that happen. Can you please help? Thanks, you're still the best on TH-cam!
