      Yes and he gets such a bad rep because people are too cynical to believe that he could've done it out of a genuine desire to help people and not as some massive publicity stunt to further his career or increase his fame. And these people pass judgment as if they know him personally and are so sure they are right. Self-righteousness and hypocrisy are the worse aspects of today's social media culture.

    Bob made his money from the sale of Planet24 that produced the Big Breakfast and the Word. He called in some favours after BandAid with one single that charted top 30. The Rats was a huge band in its day, particularly in Ireland and a no.1 in UK when the charts actually meant something. To imply that BandAid/LiveAid/3rd World debt concert was some sort of machiavellian get rich scheme is a fucking nonsense. He made a difference for the better - on a global scale. Not sure he gives a shit what people think of that. Thankfully, not sure he ever did.

      @psfd100 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@torp7215that's a good analogy actually - the cardigan. I met Val in '82 in London. Good guy. I think Sound of music was the first to knock Sgt Peppers off and both these albums went back to number 1 after Gently. Could be wrong. His TV show ran for years. Like I said; whatever you're into. He was easy listening novelty songs. Did nothing to change the status quo or evolve anything. He was safe which is why he was popular. BBC radio 2 stuff. No shame in liking cardigan music. I like what Geldof achieved. I was around when the Rats played. They brought a badly needed anti authority attitude to a corrupt State controlled by the Church at a pretty hopeless and shit time for young people who didnt have a Dad in the Bank or civil service. They said "fuck you and your cardigan bullshit". There is a context. Wasnt a fan of the music but fair play to them. Too easy to knock them now and pointless too. They stood up front and centre at a point in time and nothing can ever take that away from them.
