My Bulgarian follower sent me a photo of an MG Cyberster at Sofia Motor Show. It might have been the first Cyberster in the Balkans, despite the fact that MG is still not available in Bulgaria. This was being showcased by an EV charging company. I really hope next year, MG will open dealerships in Bulgaria (plus the Baltic states).
You raised some good points I've not seen in other reviews. Like the 100th anniversary which is stretching the legacy somewhat. I agree with you on the choice of motors too, the single motor seems the best buy. So jealous you had this for a day!
Wouldn’t have it in Yellow, but that is a beautiful looking car. One for retirement though, don’t think our 2 big dogs would be impressed! Great review Tish.
Your hair is being blown about NOT because you are sitting too high (you are not the tallest presenter!) but because there was no wind break between the headrests. These can be material or something like perspex. It is a very important feature in a roadster to massively reduce wind buffeting in the cabin. Of course, if you were 6'5" tall, it would be pretty windy in the cabin regardless if there was a wind break! In something like a Mazda MX5, the wind break is standard. In a Mercedes SLK, it was usually an option!
Wind deflector is mesh fabric and supplied with the vehicle, not always fitted in the showroom, but it can be removed (while the roof is down) and stored in a mesh pocket behind the seats, as then when you put the roof up there is access between the headrests when the roof is up to a bit more storage under the rear screen which would be great for coats, etc.
Hi Tish , maybe worth bearing in mind that there is still a fair bit of British input in MG, via the small teams in Longbridge and London. I understand the external design was done in the UK and generally a lot of new model ride and handling completed for Western markets. Love your reviews.
Best looking MG to date, it has enough style to convince customers to switch to full EV. Me personally would prefer a hardtop version especially with British wet weather and how long would the EV batteries/ motor last after the 7 year warranty expires is the real question? before customer's considering buying one of these. I hope MG have concealed the EV batteries & motor watertight otherwise I can see these having alot of battery or electrical faults.
Great review Tish as always. The first real MG sports car since way back when. The badge engineering has been misused over the years, so it’s wonderful to see something worthy, regardless of where it is built. A Coupe would be even better.
Tish. Keep up the channel content. Always seams to be onpoint with what us driver/buyers are intrigued about. . I prefer the yellow Supra 2.0 you did. Yellow is one hell of a colour. Thinking of a yellow NSX MK1.5
The Cyberster was designed and developed at their London centre and used a test facility at Longbridge so there is British know how and input with the car.
A convertible should look gorgeous as a first priority. Full credit to MG's owners for having the balls to come up with this, & not another boring EV SUV like Ford have done with the Mustang & the new Capri.
Nice review, Tish, & I fully agree with your questioning of the “100 Year Anniversary” badge… What I would have appreciated seeing, however, is the Boot space (always a concern when considering the practicality of any Sports Car…) & it’s also a good idea to show what a Convertible looks like with the roof *UP* - as some Convertibles look clunky or even hideous when you raise the roof, although I suspect that this one probably looks okay….. 😊
The 7 year MG warranty is an interesting one as if you dig into the details of what components are covered, it ranges from a few months to years depending, with a lot of the major components like ball joints, struts, dampers being limited to 36 months or 45k miles and seat covers to 12 months/15k miles.....
Your right, it sure is a sexy car. It looks great, drives great and is super fast 0-62 in 3.2 secs. Great car for the money - who cares about the badge..
They're not "gull wing" doors though. They're "scissor" doors. Gull wing doors are like a DeLorean has, that open upwards and are hinged in the roof. 😉👍🏻
Loving the design. Needs to slim down as it has the modern bloated look. Compare this car in size to the original cars. What the market wants is a small darty, two seater with normal doors. This would work so well in E.V. Guise’s. Another top video Tish.👍
These on-screen controls make me laugh, "if you spend a bit of time with it". I remember getting in my first driving lesson car, the instructor showed me the heating controls. Didn't need more than a few seconds to work out which button did what 😂
Fantastic great video and car. Been waiting for this one, where is Jaguar? MG has bought a roadster to market and from your comments have got it right. Thank you for the review marvellous!
As for the steering wheel adjustment, the vast majority of people will set it up once for themselves and then just leave it at that, having an electric adjustment is in my humble opinion a complete waste of time and would only add to the overall cost and weight. I mean come on it only took you 5 seconds to adjust, a great review Tish, you can tell me to mind my own business but is this your full-time job? if it is you are one lucky girl.
Probably because gull wing doors are tediously tiresome to wait for😂 Speed them up, give the appearance of a swift departure. They’ve always been a weak point in car design.
If any MG model deserved to use the 100th anniversary branding, it's the one that is closest to their roadster heritage. It was shocking for MG lovers to see SAIC manufacture bland cars and SUVs and call them MG. Despite this being a topless GT more than a roadster, it's as close a the brand seemed comfortable going. BEVs are expensive to manufacture because of the battery costs. Don't believe the battery analysts. Pack prices are still very high. I'd rather buy a smaller baby brother stripper version of this, but at least MG remembered how to make a topless car.
you asked if it was a bit cheeky to reference this MG to its British heritage, then at the end note MG reliability issues... 🤔 Sounds like the British tradition has continued!
With MG, you can never get away from the reliability issues, so you were right to highlight it. Saw a report only a few days ago that had two MG EVs in the ten least reliable car of 2023. The important thing is that it isn't an SUV. The market is saturated with EV SUVs. The joke being that where EVs shine is small, lightweight and efficient. So car companies that keep offering 2.5>3 ton hunks of junk, will only see them getting into financial difficulty. One important aspect for any EV is efficiency. Too many EVs have trouble hitting 4 miles/kWh. Alas the Cyberster is no different. With the advances in technology and weight reduction, we should be seeing 6 miles/kWh and that would mean the 77Kw battery giving 450 odd miles of range. Or reduce the battery size and make the car lighter, which ALL EVs should be trying to do.
Even though I don't like SUVs and despair at seeing so many on the road, in some ways it makes sense to have them because of the low energy density of the batteries. I would imagine that people would prefer to have a car with a range of 200+ miles as opposed to cars with a range between 100 to 200 miles. Batteries have to be big and heavy to achieve this range and this affects the styling and dynamics of cars. Tesla began production of the Roadster in 2008 and Nissan began production of the Leaf in 2010, look how the cars have advanced since then. Battery technology is rapidly increasing with higher energy density, better durability, faster charging and lower cost, but it takes time. By the end of the decade, cars will have smaller batteries, have longer range and will be cheaper. However, I expect that there will still be lots of SUVs on the road because there were SUVs before EVs came along. I don't like them, you don't like them but obviously some people like them or they wouldn't sell.
@@catherinegrimes2308 I would agree with you about the 200+ mile range. As, to me that is where EVs become far more practical and every day usable. The problem is with regards to size and weight and their effect on efficiencies. Make a car big, makes drag factor worse. Make a car heavier, means more energy needed to move. Make a car big and heavy, means rolling resistance increased. Back in 2010 Toyota were working on a normal sized car based on the Prius. It had a drag factor of under .25, tick. Weighed just under 1,500Kg, so very close to a normal Golf sized car. With those it was showing a miles/kWh of 6 and had a 30Kwh battery. So a range possibly as much as 180 miles. What really bugs me is this could have been advanced by ALL the car companies. Instead we have barges, that weigh too much and cost way too much, both to the planet and the pocket. I fear it is all for the American market as their roads can take bigger cars and people generally want bigger cars.
I've had an MG EV since 2021 and zero issues - these vehicles are made to a price but they are made very well - our's is the perfect shopping trolley, short run vehicle for around town.

Disown that you've ever heard of ADAS. Argue in court if you must that humans are more attentive when it isn't present, because they are. Market it a "slow car, fast." Low power specs, wimpy acceleration (relatively), and show how you can have more fun driving a small open car at moderate speeds than you can driving a Porsche 911. Show how we have to step back into simplicity with lower parts count, simpler cars, with higher sustainability. Show that when you put people in these cars they don't feel the need to speed excessively, and that in order to get that longer range, drivers learn to cruise at 55 mph instead of 80, saving lots of energy across the lifetime of ownership. Research shows, the closer you are to the road surface, the greater your sense of speed is. Show that when the car is cheap, people can afford to have a bigger color pallet, and make it their own.
Bentleys = overpriced VW's, Rolls-Royce = dressed up BMW, Aston Martin = glorified Mercedes with near triple the servicing costs *(see Bamford Rose Channel - Aston Martin Mercedes Era Car Servicing: What You Need to Know),* Nissan = costly Renaults, Toyota = BMW's or Subaru's (take your pick), Lexus = Toyota's with nail polish, Italian sports cars = cheap Chrysler build quality parts. American build quality (if there is such a thing) + Italian build quality (🤣😂😅) ... *so I'm not going to bat an eyelid at MG*
First of all let me correct you on your mistake here you wrongly refer the Mercedes GOLDwing when clearly the 1955 Mercedes 300 SL door name was and still is the GULLWING for obvious reasons, a better obvious door description for the MG would be Lamborghini/McLaren style doors, That way it sounds like you know what your talking about. Nevertheless a stunning car.
I never knew people would be so particular 😅 they name literally just slipped my mind when filming and I didn’t think it would be an issue. It has lifting doors, I think everyone can tell that from the video.
Good looking car..... but yet no soul. Why have an MG with 6R4 power without the 6R4 sound track to go with it. Sorry but i'm staying old school to its very last dying day. And that car only gives you a bad hair day Tish.😂
@jamesnicholl8016 So what? If you want a cabriolet, there is more fun to have in a, say Porsche Boxster, Mazda Miata or Lexus LC 500 from top of my head.
Still very expensive despite the tech etc. For me the main elephant in the room is the charging time(fast charging not good for lipo batteries imho) and the battery degradation over a relatively short period of time compared to ICE cars. A very expensive gamble.
Cool TH-cam, but not for me , to much technology, give me a classic MG any day ( but it's not English) we don't make cars now Jaguar owned by tata , what as happend to the great British sports car ?. Iam in my 60tish and drive a 2011 Mazda mx5 , Nearest thing to a old classic British car you can get , and the British government don't want you driving about anymore they pricing the owners of the road, there is no enjoyment in driving, Most people have a car for a work and family , back in the 60is to the 80is people enjoyed there car now its just environmentally crap ?.

@@karlInSanDiego what the hell are you on about? Just a wall of absolute waffle.
Where is the cyberster built?
Built in China, Designed in London.
@X66MSB thanks
It’s a massive feature……facts are what sells.
Rubbish name. Really really rubish. Could have called it the MG-E GT. or Dennis. Anything else, really.
Ground clearance ??.?.????.
125mm. 2mm less than the Porsche Taycan
Good looking car..... but yet no soul. Why have an MG with 6R4 power without the 6R4 sound track to go with it. Sorry but i'm staying old school to its very last dying day. And that car only gives you a bad hair day Tish.😂
Seats are NOT leather. they are leather style, [plastic to you and me]
Nice, but too expensive
She must be driving a press car as there is no wind deflector - hence her hair is blowing about...
Oh! Perhaps there was one in the boot and I just didn’t know?
Can this bumblebee talk ?
Much more safer, versatile, higher quality with Tesla Model 3 Performance or BMW i4 M50 for the same amount of money, at least here in Scandinavia.
I think you maybe miss the point, its a convertible.
It’s not higher quality than BMW, it might be priced the same but don’t expect the same quality.
@jamesnicholl8016 So what? If you want a cabriolet, there is more fun to have in a, say Porsche Boxster, Mazda Miata or Lexus LC 500 from top of my head.
Tesla is pathetic. Take your hate to a Tesla pump site, please.
@@onetwothreefour-s1n You're projecting child. Get help asap.
You are gorgeous Tish. 😍😍😍
The team who designed the front, did a much better job than the one that designed the back.
Still very expensive despite the tech etc. For me the main elephant in the room is the charging time(fast charging not good for lipo batteries imho) and the battery degradation over a relatively short period of time compared to ICE cars. A very expensive gamble.
You probably shouldn’t fast charge at 140kW too often. But charging at slower speeds, there shouldn’t be much battery degradation to speak of
Dehideral doors
All early adopters of EV's have had issues with their cars. It is not make or model specific.
no
They have taken its British heritage seriously to the extent of guaranteeing rust and unreliability.
the nepotism is strong in this one
I’m assuming you’re talking about the car? 🤔
@@AutoSocialUK no lol
@ my dads a builder and my mums a hairdresser but re-trained as a Physio but ok, I’ll take it as a compliment! 😅
Just too heavy to be a sports car
Don't knock it till you've tried it... it drives great..
Is the boot big enough for a tour for two? You’d need some brave pills to buy one over say a Z4.
Too £££, may as well buy BMW Z4.
But the Z4 has an ICE, it's not a BEV: so your argument doesn't make any sense.
1 million percent. Shame EV tech just isn't all that. We love breath smell petrol piston cars. EV with the N Ionix5 apart. Just aren't all that
Cyberster >>>> Z4
Cool TH-cam, but not for me , to much technology, give me a classic MG any day ( but it's not English) we don't make cars now
Jaguar owned by tata , what as happend to the great British sports car ?. Iam in my 60tish and drive a 2011 Mazda mx5 ,
Nearest thing to a old classic British car you can get , and the British government don't want you driving about anymore they pricing the owners of the road, there is no enjoyment in driving,
Most people have a car for a work and family , back in the 60is to the 80is people enjoyed there car now its just environmentally crap ?.
This is a great car…. In 2 years when it’s worth £5k 😭😭
Made in CHINA
SO. So is your phone that you look at You-Tube on and type that with.
Yup. They make the best evs.
It’s just way to expensive, especially when it’s an MG4 underneath which is half the money
A really good car spoilt by putting silly doors on it. I accept some people may like the doors but for me there a deal breaker
