I honestly can't say how satisfying it is watching a... 'sub optimal' paint job, like it's not bad, but there are so many display level videos, this is just so much more fun to watch
As someone who is neurodivergent and is getting into mini painting, this video was very insightful and the paint process of each part of the mini is really broken down into easy to follow steps. Especially the blade painting steps really helped me to finally understand the coating with contrasts and how to create the lightning and energy effects, also the gem painting 12/10.
@@thepaintingphase you seem happier. Congrats on the change. Your quick and easy style while still making it look amazing has motivated me to start painting again
Loving the video frequency and format. Everything is beautifully shot, excellently painted and, most importantly, explained in easily digestible chunks (and in a way that feels achievable!) Kudos Mr Peach and the whole Painting Phase team 🙌
Thank you so much! Ive wanted to paint Custodes for a long time, this video has given me the kick up my Tyranid Arse to go out and start a second army!
whenever I prime in one of the main colors of the figure, like gold here, I always do a halfhearted coat of gold from the pot/bottle on top of it. I find that spray cans and the regular paints do differ a noticeable amount even if it's a "100% color match", and of course, as Mr. Peachy said, it helps the paint grip on better as spray metallics can be a bit difficult to paint on. Also, if you want to get more "realistic" splatter effects of dirt, dust, or blood, then I do wholeheartedly recommend something Alex from 52 Miniatures showed in a video. Take your brush and load it fair bit and get a drinking straw. Then blow trough the straw onto the brush and aim wherever you want the splatter to appear. Then the droplets from your brush actually splatters onto the mini :) I find it to be a nice little trick to use from time to time to get a different dirt/ mud effect without having to buy new expensive things :)

Peachy i really like your style just enough definition, i always tend to overdo things so that it takes 2 time aslong… i will try and stick to your scheme this time and get them battle ready. Thank you.
Having been at this for a while and consumed so much HobbyTube, I was not explecting to learn new things with every video. Peachy pulls out tricks I've never seen from other tutorials (videos, pdfs, etc), and some choice bits of general knowledge (wash over metallics befor basecoats - check) that no one's mentioned before. This is great. Also, I've literally never gotten auric armor to work properly. Video was worth it for that alone.
Painted up my first unit of Wardens following this guide and they look great! thanks Painting Phase! I had to substitute Nuln Oil for Basilicanum Grey and more Mephiston Red for Word Bearers Red but they came out lovely.
Nice one! Glad it helped, and kudos for the substitutes, these guides are just that guides, so making it work for you is incredibly satisfying from my perspective 😍👍

Cheers, and I agree, we want to show everything in the painting process, including the warts and all. And it’s true if you can’t see it why bother painting it lol I’ve been slated for having messy paintjobs, but for me it’s the final result that matters in the end. And it’s an honest way of showing how to properly speed paint. Cheers - Peachy
Cracking video! ..and enjoyable seeing Peachy out in the wilds! Really inspires me to turn my brush to a 40k project. Cheers for sharing - and always good to see the ol' Peachy 'thumbing' technique in action! 🙌
Such a great video that shows how a combination of good technique and the right tools can achieve fantastic results. I'd love to see your approach to the Sisters of Silence. Well done!
Hi Peachy. Loving this tutorial, your personality shines through as always. A fantastic dose of inspiration. I'm going to use this technique to paint my AOS Stormcasters Stormstrike set. Well done on a brilliant video. Thank you. Keep the good work coming and take care. Kind regards Ian 🖌️🖌️🖌️👍
I just finished my first one. Hade to you khorne red for the gloves tho. And no contrast paints at all so it doesn’t look as neat but I’m happy with it being my third ever model. Thanks for the vid!

Might I request a similar video for Imperial Knights? While they're top candidates for high end paint jobs, they're also intimidating models that people struggle to get on the table and instead sit in subassembly in the closet. Better they get a rudimentary paintjob that someone can build on later.
That, is a good idea. We've got some boxes of knights waiting actually so we'll get them on the list. Failing up "the painting coach" did one a few months back that might be helpful.
Everyone complains to me about Corax white, but yours is as smooth as anything.. Is that just lots of mixing, or have you added some extra medium or something?
Just lots of mixing, it does get a bad rep, and there are better ones on the market like AK and Pro Acryl, but I’ve never really had massive issues with my Corax White.
Hey Matthew, it depends on your basecoat/layer, but if your using Russ Grey as most folks do I’d suggest Fenrisian grey and drybrush with that. Cheers Peachy
Peachy, do you ever do the base texture/rocks/etc before priming? I've been treating the base as part of "assembly" for a while now, and I find it makes it much more likely I'll actually do the base! Plus, with the base primed, you're not limited to the color of the texture paint and they're super fast to paint up with contrast and a dry brush.
Doombull brown can be used for the leather if you have that? Or any brown-ish colour. For shading the gold you could use thinned down guilliman flesh contrast paint for a similar effect, gryph-charger grey for a cooler look. Or if you wanted a more weathered look nuln oil or agrax earthshade. If you don't have any shades at all thin down a brown paint and drop that in the recesses for a shading effect.
Hey Peachy, what do you use when varnishing your miniatures after? I always find that's the one thing I struggle the most to really figure out what's best.
If memory serves I think I used a small layer for most things? A medium layer for washes etc and a small dry brush, all citadel. And I’m glad you’ve found it helpful - peachy
