    As someone who is neurodivergent and is getting into mini painting, this video was very insightful and the paint process of each part of the mini is really broken down into easy to follow steps. Especially the blade painting steps really helped me to finally understand the coating with contrasts and how to create the lightning and energy effects, also the gem painting 12/10.

    whenever I prime in one of the main colors of the figure, like gold here, I always do a halfhearted coat of gold from the pot/bottle on top of it. I find that spray cans and the regular paints do differ a noticeable amount even if it's a "100% color match", and of course, as Mr. Peachy said, it helps the paint grip on better as spray metallics can be a bit difficult to paint on.
    Also, if you want to get more "realistic" splatter effects of dirt, dust, or blood, then I do wholeheartedly recommend something Alex from 52 Miniatures showed in a video. Take your brush and load it fair bit and get a drinking straw. Then blow trough the straw onto the brush and aim wherever you want the splatter to appear. Then the droplets from your brush actually splatters onto the mini :)
    I find it to be a nice little trick to use from time to time to get a different dirt/ mud effect without having to buy new expensive things :)

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    00:15 🎨 *Custodias are quick to paint due to their limited model count, making them suitable for fast tabletop-ready painting.*
    00:43 🖌️ *You can undercoat the models with a metallic spray or base coat them by hand with metallic paint.*
    01:11 🌟 *Applying a shade like Reikland Fleshshade helps the base coat adhere better to metallic undercoats.*
    02:16 🗡️ *Different colors are used for various details, like using Iron Hand Steel for silver sections and Word Bearer's Red for leather.*
    03:10 💎 *Gemstones and weapons are painted with blue tones, such as Frost Art and Storm Host Silver.*
    04:26 🏞️ *Basing is done with Astro Granite for a contrasting gray tone against the gold and red of the Custodians.*
    05:44 🎲 *The model is tabletop-ready after painting, and you can start playing games without further detailing.*
    06:29 ✨ *Optional highlights are demonstrated using Auric Armor Gold for the gold areas and other colors for various details.*
    08:10 ⚡ *Lightning crackle effects are added to the Guardian Spear, and gemstones are highlighted with dots.*
    09:26 🔷 *Additional highlights with Storm Host Silver are applied to certain silver details on the Custodians.*

    Having been at this for a while and consumed so much HobbyTube, I was not explecting to learn new things with every video. Peachy pulls out tricks I've never seen from other tutorials (videos, pdfs, etc), and some choice bits of general knowledge (wash over metallics befor basecoats - check) that no one's mentioned before. This is great. Also, I've literally never gotten auric armor to work properly. Video was worth it for that alone.

    While they're top candidates for high end paint jobs, they're also intimidating models that people struggle to get on the table and instead sit in subassembly in the closet.

  • @ultimapanzer
    @ultimapanzer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Peachy, do you ever do the base texture/rocks/etc before priming? I've been treating the base as part of "assembly" for a while now, and I find it makes it much more likely I'll actually do the base! Plus, with the base primed, you're not limited to the color of the texture paint and they're super fast to paint up with contrast and a dry brush.

    • @thepaintingphase
      @thepaintingphase  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sometimes I do, but tbh it’s more just a habit as I prefer doing it at the end. But your points are super valid.

    Hey, what can you use if you don’t have reikland flesh shade and word bearers red

      Doombull brown can be used for the leather if you have that? Or any brown-ish colour. For shading the gold you could use thinned down guilliman flesh contrast paint for a similar effect, gryph-charger grey for a cooler look. Or if you wanted a more weathered look nuln oil or agrax earthshade. If you don't have any shades at all thin down a brown paint and drop that in the recesses for a shading effect.

      @@thepaintingphase Ah fair, I've got Guiliman Flesh, Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade. What would you recommend personally?

    Hey Peachy, what do you use when varnishing your miniatures after? I always find that's the one thing I struggle the most to really figure out what's best.

      Honestly for plastic miniatures I rarely if at all varnish them, the only time I might do this is with the pot varieties for glossed/lacquered armour.

    Could you do a similar video for Grey Knights perhaps?

    Did you use the old or new reikland fleshshade?

    I really enjoyed this video and found it very helpful! Why brushes did you use throughout the painting process?

    • @thepaintingphase
      @thepaintingphase  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If memory serves I think I used a small layer for most things? A medium layer for washes etc and a small dry brush, all citadel.
      And I’m glad you’ve found it helpful - peachy
