    In my youth I used to paint D&D figs till 4am. I haven't touched a brush since grade 12, but watching this is inspiring me to start again with the futuristic miniatures since I now have the time and $ to indulge myself. Thank You!

    I need to remember the way you did Valoris his grey hair. That is a super easy way to getting it to look great!
    Custodes are an awesome range of models. They're almost impossible to mess up and are both a beautiful canvas to go ham on with every trick in the book and also models that will look amazing with only a couple basic tricks. This video is a prime example. No insane highlighting, no wet blending on the cape. Just a man, a drybrush and a little creativity and he looks bloody brilliant!

    Fantastic work here Sledge. I feel like drybrushing is one of those techniques that gets wrongfully left behind by a lot of people when they really advance their painting. It is such an effective way of boosting highlights and making them a touch softer, particularly when used in underpainting. Anyhow, I'm clearly preaching to the choir.
    What I wanted to say is, I'd love to see your filming and editing set up - maybe a behind the scenes video of the whole process (if you don't have one already). If you don't, please consider doing one!

  • @captainbaconsky

    Really loved this!
    One thing I would do, besides decapitating him, is actually not gluing him onto a base. I'd just attach a spare sprue to one of his leggies so that I can still rotate him around but without the base in the way. That way, reaching the inside of the cape would be even easier.
    Also, any thoughts of using the gloss version of reikland for shading the armor for more shine?

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I had a little experiment before priming him of whether or not it'd be worth painting him on a separate stick, and honestly didn't find much of a difference on how easy it was to reach most of the cloak before or after putting him on his base. The big kicker would be to paint him with the cloak removed entirely and glue THAT on later, but it's got so many of the gold armour parts attached to it in one big piece that it's then farting around with some other thing to hold... 😅
      The only part which would be made any easier is the spot just between his legs at the rear of the cloak, and honestly you can jam a brush in there just fine. Hide any mistakes with a bigger grass tuft! 🤣

    Hi there sir, I’ve really enjoyed watching many videos of yours. It’s super cathartic to watch and the final products are wonderful looking.
    The biggest issue I have is I have 5 kids and frankly can’t imagine using 15+ or 20+ paints on a single model, not to mention the time required. You have any tips, channels, search terms I should use to find video guides for 40K with quick wins for my models? I’ve found it incredibly difficult to find SIMPLIFIED, faster results 🤷🏻‍♂️.
