  • This video is about Tire Changing for Dummies like me.
    I really struggled learning how to get tires on and off the rims. After watching almost every video on youtube about how to do it, I've decided to post my own 'how to'.
    This video utilizes a couple tools including a 'Tire tool' and a bead breaker. You can find these for sale at any Karting store.
    Thanks for watching.

    In all the videos I’ve watched I haven’t seen anyone use the tyre tongs to remove the tyre off the second rim like that. I’ve been struggling for an hour trying to do it by hand and then boom. Saw your video and it popped straight off. Thanks!

      Thanks Jay. It took me a while to figure out how to use them also!

    OK, now you have to sort out doing it by hand! You still have to use the bead breaker, but you can usually get the tires on and off quicker than with the tools. Just takes some practice. I'd also recommend to not inflate the tires while the rims are facing down. If you place them tread down, you naturally put your hand on the tread (top) to steady it rather than the sidewall minimizing the likelihood of pinching between the rim and the rubber.

      Yes! doing tires without the tool is faster, but requires more technique and training. Thanks for the great tip on inflating.

      Brent Kadler It took me about 3 weekends and lots of examples but it is satisfying. Also minimizes the risk of damaging the wheel rim

    Great video! This can be a real pain sometimes. In terms of flipping your rubber like that, you lose significant contact patch to the track resulting in poor handling performance.

    doing it all by hand now, except of the first step. Once you know the drill, you are a lot faster. It's all about technique instead of raw power =)

      Yes. Yes. Congrats. Hand tire changes are by far the best! I'm still married to my tire prongs!

      @@brentkadler2870 thanks, yes the tool can come in handy though. I'm using it sometimes to push on the last step of the tire mounting. Some tire brands seems to be easier to be installed than others. Cheers

    Forgive me for asking but wouldn’t it be easier to just move the right sides to the left and the lefts to the right? I’m new and am still using the used set that came on the kart, just because I’ve heard how hard changing them is.

    • @brentkadler2870

      I've put calls out to the tire manufacturers to discuss this, but I haven't gotten a response just yet. I can tell you that the 'chords' of the tires are directional, and if you wear them down enough you'll see what appears to be a fibreglass like webbing inside the rubber (providing the strength to the rubber). Some guys have run tires in the wrong direction and gotten away with it, but I can't endorse that strategy. My recommendation is to practice tire mounting. In time you can completely unmount and re-mount all 4 tires in less than 30 minutes. Joey/Jesse at Overdrive have it down to about 10-12 minutes for 4 tires. I hope this helps. Best of lick.

    • @randy3324
      @randy3324 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brent Kadler so can you use reverse mounted tires for practice? I wouldn’t run them down that far just want them to wear evenly.

    • @brentkadler2870
      @brentkadler2870  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@randy3324 Sorry. I would keep them mounted in the correct direction at all times... just move them from the Right Rim, to the Left Rim. You can do this for practice as you'll get more life out of the tire. For race day, better put on a new set, then keep them mounted in their correct position until they wear out. You don't want to flip/rotate race day tires because the contact patch isn't quite optimal and you'll notice they aren't quite as fast if you start rotating them and flipping them.

    Don't ever switch tires from left to right and the other way, the grip gets really bad and the balande is destroyed making the kart shake a lot

      I've found in my experience that it costs as much as 0.5 to 0.75 seconds on the track with flipped tires. I agree with you, and I would recommend that it only be done for practice. I never flip the race tires. no good! I've learned so much in the last couple years.
