    This guy’s living the life overlanding around the American west in his “summer weeks.” Clearly put some TLC into this cool rig and a good sport for giving it a shot on this course.

    I think the rear locker would’ve gotten you through. ATRAC is rad but has limitations. I recently got stuck in a spot where I needed a front locker. Winch got me through that spot. :-)

    As a fellow T4R SR5 owner, I really appreciate the build on that rig. Nicely done! Goes to show the TFL course isn't as easy as the haters like to claim it is. Nice video from Case and Alex, btw. Keep up the great work guys.

    Very nice rig. Weight is the big drawback in any off-road rig. As far as lockers you can add aftermarket anytime (front and rear)

  • @rockymountboy
    @rockymountboy ปีที่แล้ว +22

    Didn't seem like A-Trac was kickin in. Time to get a rear locker. Getting an aftermarket locker on an SR5 is a lot cheaper than a TRD.

    • @derekc8913
      @derekc8913 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It doesn’t look like they offer a-trac until you get into the off-road model, at least that’s what I see from Toyotas website.

    • @Mr_Kirk_
      @Mr_Kirk_ 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was the tires, not A-Trac that failed. He had plenty of wheel on the ground, just no traction.

    Props for rocking the SR5 and standing by it through and through! Massive respect! Most impressive thing was perfectly bending that carrier back into place at the end

  • @rl9810
    @rl9810 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I know he needed that rear tire carrier to haul that big spare, but man. What a boat anchor. Really needs more of an aftermarket steel rear bumper with an integrated tire carrier. This one just destroys his departure angle.

  • @chrisb6162
    @chrisb6162 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Yeah, i still don't get the heavy bulky tent on top thing. My two man tent weighs 5 pounds, sets up in 10 minutes and doesnt cut my mileage by 20%. Plus if im staying at a campsite for a few days i dont have to pack it up when i go exploring for the day. If I'm in bear country, i can just sleep in back of my rig. I guess i just like simplicity but to each their own. Nice set up he has though.

    Nice set up and video!! We have a 2014 Trail 4Runner. We are Overlanders as well. A bit lighter without the rooftop tent drawers or spare tire carrier. Have rock sliders a front 12000 winch on a hitch mount, Redarc controller with dual Optima batteries with a EcoFlow Delta battery pack and 2 100 watt solar panels. ICECO fridge. We are a bit lighter and can remove the front hitch for approach angle. With the rear locker 3" OME lift and 33" Baja Boss A/T's we might be able to clear some of that mud. Would be interesting to try...

    I think those 34’s aired down would fit in the spare slot, give you more rear clearance. I couldn’t imagine using the at hitch tire carrier on some of these Colorado trails. I feel like I drag my trail hitch ALL THE TIME on trails here. The trailer hitch and bumper were an issue on China Wall a few weekends back. I’m already looking at rear frame chop high clearance custom bumpers because of how that weekend and my rear end went. Lol

    Your title say "Skip the TRD" but your video says otherwise... LOL! If that guy wanted to have any chance, he should have lower the tire pressure way more. On such big tires, going from 36 psi to 20 doesn't move the needle. In that case, he should have been able to come out of that mud with A-trac.

      @pyronic120120 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @cameronj9890 Yup... dont' know what the heck WW-wf8tu is even talking about. A common sized set of pizza cutters for this truck is 285/55/17 and 280/55/17 which are 34" and 33" narrow. It effectively is the same diameter as the tires the 4runner in the video has. If anything the pizza cutters will rub less. just cause you go skinni doesn't mean you need to go larger in diameter than the guys running fatter tires. and not to mention the benefits in gas milage opposed to the fatter tires.

      @@pyronic120120I'm not sure you understand how metric tire sizes work. The 285 is the width in mm. The 50 and 55 is that percentage of that width.

I did the mine run as a newbie with zero experience but it was super cool. You can dive up to and turn around right at the mine but try not to drive too far past it. The turn-around space past it gets smaller so If you decide to try it yourself please be careful take your time & enjoy! To ensure you know... don't drive past the mine at the top of the hill.

    SR5 saves a TON of money to buy-- and anything needed can be added and that way you DON"T get all the B..sh..t electronic hogwash to deal with and can drive your OWN truck without dumbass robotic assist!!! Lockers are easy to add, and easy to get. no biggie. I'd SUPERCHARGE it too.. and STILL save a ton over the TURD (trd)... and cheaper to maintain that way..

    Not interested in David's foley catheter. Lol. Now if you are running David's Folly, that's a different story

    Guess guy needs better tires and arb dual locker setup. And absolutely a Warren 10k synthetic line winch. Perfect vehicle and setup all the way around! I love my 4th gen 4 runner SR5 4x4.

    This 4Runner is pretty much a write off after this trail. It is too advance for a stock vehicle.

    This is exactly why I bought an Xterra over a 4runner and saved money.
