Metabones Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x Adapter for Canon FD-Mount Lens to Micro Four Thirds-Mount Camera is the only top-quality method of using FD lenses on Micro 4/3. I see you use a Metabones Speed Booster with maybe two or three of your Nikon ED lenses. Top quality lenses hold up through the speedbooster because Metabones uses top quality glass, and it's usually a 5 lens element masterpiece. Of course there's the one stop GAIN on the FD lenses, too, from focusing all the lens area onto the 4/3 sensor size (.71x). You sacrifice SO much using another adapter; maybe Fotodiox works decently, I don't know, but Metabones is simply quality-flawless. I've used two for a long period for Canon EOS EF mount to micro 4/3 and Canon's "L" lenses lost absolutely nothing. These are invaluable videos that you produce. Thanks!
LOVE the intro man! love the energy going into your channel nowadays. Don't let anyone telling you you're copying X or Y, just keep up the great work. Really Creative.
14:05 is the name of the lens adapter "fotasy?" the best thing about using nikon zoom lenses is you can pull focus and zoom with one hand (they turn in same direction; canon lenses zoom & focus rings rotate opposite, so it is difficult to do both when using a monopod).
Side note: The Canon FD lenses work well with Mirrorless systems as well (i.e. Sony Alpha) due to the flange distance being on point without special elements in the adapter.
Hey Caleb, I’m about to enter the world of adapted lens on Lumix MFT cameras. Wondering what your general thoughts are about Nikon vs Canon lenses. I like the idea of having an aperture ring on the adapter for Nikon F mounts but having a full electronic connection to a Canon EF seems more versatile
Thanks for the great info on the G4 versus G&. Where can we purchase your manual "gab of tricks" on the G7? I want to purchase the G7 for Broll and shallow depth of field interviews. Can you advise on a couple of good but not expensive lenses?
I love your channel!!!! Based on few videos i watched, i understood that if we have a Nikon AI or AIS lens mounted via a speedbooster (like Viltrox NF-M43X) to the Panasonic GH5, we will be able to read the aperture change in the viewfinder. Can you confirm this? Thanks for your help!!!
Caleb, sorry about the dumb question, but I'm lost. I purchased an old OM Hanimex 80-200mm f4 macro lens, and I need to find a tripod collar for it. Would I be looking for one that is the same size as the filter that fits this lens. I can't find any that were made for this lens. Thanks
I have the Canon NEW FD 50mm f1.4 (the one without the metal silver ring) on my Sony a6000. Screw the 1,8 and get the 1,4 :D It was 100 bucks for me with the original lens hood that even has microfiber on the inside. And its waaay sharper than the 1.8.
Need a help here! I got Mitakon Turbo EOS to M43 but then realized there is no many (cheap) manual controlled aperture lenses for EOS! Probably will use FD lenses but does it gonna work if I use FD to EOS adapter and then Mitakon EOS to m43 o my GH4?
I have a question. I have a Jupiter-8 lens. Although I am been getting good photo's with that lens on my Canon 700D/i5 with some really good effect's. However, because the Jupiter-8 built for a rangefinder/mirrorless camera's, not an D/SLR camera, it means that I am unable to use it for what it was built for. Do you know of an addaptor for rangefinder/mirrorless to a DSLR camera lens with a M39 mount?
Nikon NIKKOR 35-70mm f/3.5-4.8 (Cheap) + Metabones Speed Booster. I know you said not the 3.5-4.8 but with the Metabones would I still get a good sharp look?
+simianinc They are, I just don't use primes enough to buy several of them. And their color is a little wacky, so mixing them with other lenses would create a lot of post work.
+umran89 I was just going to move the light around the camera, but I kept messing up and the clip had 8 takes or so. In post I decided to speed the whole clip up just for the heck of it and it looked great!
i have lumix G7.. what lenses ur recommend for my camera.. Actually I just want to start with wedding videographer and short movie.. so, yes, im newbie.. need some advice n comment for lense.. and how about panasonic lenses? thanks you
I would love to shoot 4k video and I currently shoot with the Sony A7ii. I would go with the GH4 but I almost always shoot wide angles (35mm being about as long as I go) and the 2x crop factor is pretty off-putting. I was wondering what your experiences are with the GH4.
Do NOT waste money on metabones pass through adapters, cheap $10 ones are built out of steel and work the exact same. Also same with speed boosters, stay away from metabones, look for Zhongyi lens turbo II, it's 1/6th the price and does the exact same thing.
love your videos very helpful. question. does the Tamron lens work with the Lumix G7? if so should I get the speed booster with it? or do I need a passive adaptor?
+Angel Padilla A speed booster would be good. You'll mainly need an adapter that works with EF lenses and passes the power and focus information to the camera.
Hey Caleb, I have a question, or for anyone else. I have a gh4, speedbooster and a sigma 17-55mm lens. When I zoom in, the focus gets lost. So you'd think it's not a parfocal lens. But i've put the lens right onto my old t3i, no adapter, and the focus holds while i zoom in and out. Is their any way to fix this? It's obviously the speedbooster that's changing the flange distance. Any thoughts would be great thanks! Do you have the same issue??
+Shane Pipeline Hmm... I know most photo lenses aren't parfocal, but obviously the speedbooster is message with things. I'm not smart enough to know why, but it doesn't surprise me given how much is going on optically! In general I try to avoid zooming if possible. All that said, I know my Nikon zooms behave well with the speedbooster.
first off, officially subbed because of this video and your lenses under $80. You mentioned not to buy the Nikon or Canon f 1.8 and instead opt for the Olympus. I have a Nikon d5200 and was wondering what adapter I'd need for fitting the Olympus 1.8 on it. Any help would be immensely appreciated!
Hey Rayleigh! Glad to have you aboard! You can adapter OM lenses to nikon, but you'll lose quality/functionality. Here is a great conversation on the topic: www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3210111 I should have mentioned this in the video.
Hey Caleb! Been a subscriber for some time and loving the content! Keep it up! (Fan from Portugal) I have a question. I have some old Pentax K lens that are for 35mm film (so full frame) and i use an adapter from ebay to put in my nikon D3300. But the crop is so annoying! Does a Speed Booster or a focal reducer exist for Pentax K lens to Nikon F? Or a Nikon FX to DX?
+Diogo Oliveira no, because the mount is the same, flange distance too great and mirror might be in the way. Focal reducers only exist for mirrorless cameras. M43, NEX and Fujifilm in particular.
+Diogo Oliveira afraid not, mate. I have the Nikon D5300. I love the sensor, but I hate the fact it isn't mirrorless. That's why it doesn't get a lot of airtime. You might want to consider mirrorless cameras, especially for video. Sony has APS-C stuff. Fujifilm is stepping up their game. Of course Panasonic is great, everybody seems to be loving the new G7 (even more so than flagship GH4 on image quality, not neccessarily features). But even with speedbooster you'd have a hard time on M43 bridging to get fullframe looks. But I like the APS-C/S35 look myself. Just wish the M43 sensor performance was up to APS-C standards regarding bitdata (smaller pixels = less dynamic range, lower color accuracy etc) and lowlight performance. There are some options out there. I've just ordered the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera which seems to have appeared to have come in stock in one local store (might be a faulty status, it hasn't been availlable anywhere around the world that I know of). The BMPCC renders a superb image, the BMMCC will even be better and adds 60p as well as 30p but then with GLOBAL flippin SHUTTER. I have their Video Assist already, so that will make a great combo. I have a Metabones Speedbooster for M43 and should be fine with ETTR (exposing to the right) at ISO800. Might just add that new Pilotfly H2 w/ handles and I'm good to go for 2016. I don't really need fullframe to be honest.
+Shiznutsz i love shooting video but buying another camera is a no go because of money. im pretty satisfied with the d3300, the thing i miss more is the flip screen but i can live without it. the problem for me is the 1.5x crop factor that makes a 50mm into a 75mm wich is too much, and even a 28mm wich is 50mm its too much, i would really like to get a 28mm in my d3300 or even less but because of the crop factor: or the lenses are too expensive or have a pior quality. if it was possible to slap a speed booster i would get the true 50mm or 28mm with the added bonus of getting more ligth. but i guess i have to just get used to it
***** yeah, but you could sell the D3300 and get a G7 for example. And there are a lot of M43 options availlable. A lot of people love the 20mm f/1.7 for example. On the D5300 I have the 35mm f/1.8 DX as go-to lens. But I think I will sell the D5300 as it doesn't get much use these days. Btw. If you want an epic 28mm, get the Nikon Ai-s 28mm f/2.8 MF from aclub (ask for a small discount, they'll probably grant it). Probably the best ever made?? Manual focus only and not the cheapest, yet not the most expensive either. Can even go for the 2nd hand circuit.
+David Eastham Many lol. Thanks! I might do a video on it. I actually just cut the sections I wanted, selected all and used the "change duration" tool in FCP to set them to the same length and tweaked from there.
I have a question. I have several Nikon mount lenses and Ai Ais, (All prime lens) You think they work very well in a sony a7s II? Sorry for my english is very very bad...
Ace Sail there is none. there is something called a flange distance which is the distance from the rear mount to the sensor plane. the nikon distance is larger than the canon so you can put a nikon on a canon but not vice versa
The knock-off focal reducers are not built very well, this just means you can't throw them around like the metabones, I used one for 5 months and then the screws started falling out, and broke while screwing them in. Great video By the way!
+Rebassed Haha! Thanks. I did work out a lot. But then we moved, had a kid and I had an injury, so now I'm getting plump. Need to get back on the pull up bars!
great video as usual (i suggest you shorten your videos a little bit), thks for the information. I personnally use expensive lens just because I use it mainly to take photographs (full frame), but I will definitely try one of these.
lmao i ended up coming back but if i have a canon eos m3 and i want the Olympus 50mm F1.8 and the Helios 44-2 58mm F2.0 what adapters do i need?passive adapters or electric adapters pleasee im sorry im new to this
That intro is awesome!

+Christian Hubbard Thanks Christian! Means a lot.
14:05 is the name of the lens adapter "fotasy?"

what can you say about sigma 18-35mm f1.8?
I would love to see a video on just the FD lenses you use. I have several myself and your passion for them with your gh4 got me really curious
That intro was like 😍
THANK YOU for covering this topic... This was great!
+Greg's Garage You bet!
Hi Caleb, you don't wanna make full video for the redrcock micro? I've been scouring the internet but haven't found any detail about it yet..
What lenses and adaptors would you advice to purchase for sony a6300? I already have some canon L glass and a little confused what to do.
I just got a tamron 80-210 pull push. Im waiting for the adaptor😁
Thanks for the great info on the G4 versus G&. Where can we purchase your manual "gab of tricks" on the G7? I want to purchase the G7 for Broll and shallow depth of field interviews. Can you advise on a couple of good but not expensive lenses?
Nice collection¡ Also Leitax adapters are amazing. I use them only for the lenses I like the most.. they are like 60-70 dollars each..
+Chema Garcia Mumford Cool!
Can you do a video on the videomicro vs videomic go and pro, or other mics for similar budget...
+Gershon Dharmanandan I will be doing a video breaking down my mics which include several Rode mics.
***** ohh awesome!

I have the Olympus 50mm 1.8 best lens hands down on the budget plus out can get the adapters super easy
How does it compare to the Canon 50mm 1.8 STM lens?
Love that intro man!
Oh? no Minolta? I love my 50mm 3.5 macro for my toy video b-rolls.
Hello can you please sent informations on what vintage lenses can be use on GH4 Panasonic and with which adapters ???
Caleb, sorry about the dumb question, but I'm lost. I purchased an old OM Hanimex 80-200mm f4 macro lens, and I need to find a tripod collar for it. Would I be looking for one that is the same size as the filter that fits this lens. I can't find any that were made for this lens. Thanks

The FD lenses are for full frame 35mm cameras correct? So they have a 2x crop when you use them on the GH4? I'm interested in getting these lenses.
Thomas Bolles you would be correct!
Which one is the best to use for autofocus while shooting video? I have canon lenses trying to shoot on an fs5
What is, in your estimation, the best speed adapter for adapting an fe 90mm G SONY lens to an e a6400?
Need a help here! I got Mitakon Turbo EOS to M43 but then realized there is no many (cheap) manual controlled aperture lenses for EOS! Probably will use FD lenses but does it gonna work if I use FD to EOS adapter and then Mitakon EOS to m43 o my GH4?

Are Rokinon lenses not an option? You could probably adapt the EF versions to any camera...
+simianinc They are, I just don't use primes enough to buy several of them. And their color is a little wacky, so mixing them with other lenses would create a lot of post work.
that intro was dope!!!! how did u light the different shadows? led panel moving each frame?
+umran89 I was just going to move the light around the camera, but I kept messing up and the clip had 8 takes or so. In post I decided to speed the whole clip up just for the heck of it and it looked great!
hahah! well in the end it paid off for an amazing shot
Can we see what you've done on the gh100??!!
+C and J Productions Next week I've have another video up showing my progress!
Intro is awesome
The Olympus OM lenses have all the same color rendering and much better is that almost all zooms are parfocal...if you get a decent adapter
Where can i find those follow focus rings?
Super cool intro :)
i have lumix G7.. what lenses ur recommend for my camera.. Actually I just want to start with wedding videographer and short movie.. so, yes, im newbie.. need some advice n comment for lense.. and how about panasonic lenses? thanks you
do you need an adaptor to use the albinar 80-205mm f4.5 with a canon t6i?
I would love to shoot 4k video and I currently shoot with the Sony A7ii. I would go with the GH4 but I almost always shoot wide angles (35mm being about as long as I go) and the 2x crop factor is pretty off-putting. I was wondering what your experiences are with the GH4.
Realizing I commented before the metabones part
Hi i was wondering if the stabilisation inside the a7s2 works on Rokinon lenses ? or do you need a adaptor ?

I want the Nikon to Panasonic metabones. How much is it on amazon
what adapter would i get if i want the olympus 50mm lens for my nikon d5200?
Tamron 24-70 crew checkin' in!
I use it with my FS700, so you should be fine for size in comparison. It's a fantastic all-rounder lens.
love your videos very helpful. question. does the Tamron lens work with the Lumix G7? if so should I get the speed booster with it? or do I need a passive adaptor?
+Angel Padilla www.ebay.com/itm/like/131768919012?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true will that Tamron lens work on my lumix G7 with a passive adaptor?
+Angel Padilla A speed booster would be good. You'll mainly need an adapter that works with EF lenses and passes the power and focus information to the camera.
If I take a canon lense for aps-c sensor cameras and use a passive adapter to put it on a micro four thirds camera, will I lose stops of light???
Connor Gurr no
Great info.
what gears do you use on your lenses?

I'm curious as to why you don't use native canon lenses?
Ben Possehl they lose out on many features compared to nikon as many nikons have aperture rings
Great info. Thank you!
Sick intro!
an autofocus speedbooster from nikon to m43?
No !

Can dslrs accept 3rd party lenses?
people always try vintage lenses on mirrorlessen but not on dslrs why is that?
I have a question. I have several Nikon mount lenses and Ai Ais, (All prime lens)
You think they work very well in a sony a7s II? Sorry for my english is very very bad...
Yes those should work great!
Thank for you answer!
can you link me an adapter for canon L series lens to use in Dikon D810.
Ace Sail there is none. there is something called a flange distance which is the distance from the rear mount to the sensor plane. the nikon distance is larger than the canon so you can put a nikon on a canon but not vice versa
how to shoot without OSS/Image stabilized lens?
Might have been the most satisfying intro of all time. Also, please get back to me on Twitter?
The knock-off focal reducers are not built very well, this just means you can't throw them around like the metabones, I used one for 5 months and then the screws started falling out, and broke while screwing them in. Great video By the way!
+zmac Thanks man! And thanks for the info. Good to know.
I have a panasonic G7 do you know the name of the adapter to panasonic to canon lens?
+MysticSoulsTV M4/3 to FD mount adapter?
+MysticSoulsTV metabones canon ef to m4/3
Thanks alot.
+MysticSoulsTV metabones speedbooster
Are there any cheaper ones?
great intro
do the FD lenses need an adapter for the gh4?
+Arturo's Of course. FD lenses have an FD mount. GH4 accepts M4/3 mount lenses.
+Arturo's yes
+Arturo's Yes, check eBay or amazon "FD to MFT" and you're find several options.
make a video about all of your cameras
What about FD lenses with Sony cameras? like a6000
+GeneralGarvel Works really good
+GeneralGarvel It will work, but the lenses will be softer unless you buy a really expensive adapter.
So what about the speedbooster? thats kinda my plan
***** you are wrong, you dont need an adapter with glass for fd lenses on sony cameras.
GeneralGarvel www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_SPFD-E-BM2 there you go
Man you look way healthier than you did a year ago. Also you got buff as fuck, great job!
+Rebassed Haha! Thanks. I did work out a lot. But then we moved, had a kid and I had an injury, so now I'm getting plump. Need to get back on the pull up bars!
***** Good for you man, congrats on that little one! Well you look healthy now!
great video as usual (i suggest you shorten your videos a little bit), thks for the information. I personnally use expensive lens just because I use it mainly to take photographs (full frame), but I will definitely try one of these.
I using Panasonic GH4 with lens Canon EF 50mm 1.8 STM, Do you know witch the right Adapter inexpensive it can works for me?
Don't buy glass adapters for fd lenses, they will make the lens unusable soft, adapt them on mirror less and they will keep their quality
haha, telephoto lens land, where privacy is a fantasy.
+hocadidilyocutt That got a lol out of me! Ha!
+DSLR Video Shooter Lol, glad to hear it!
first
everyone wants to copy Casey neistat overhead shots
+dwfgshdtjfyugh Wes Anderson*
Don't comment stupid things
It's just a camera angle... People have been doing it for years
once I heard 3000 I left
+chris samuel You're loss! I got the "expensive" stuff out of the way first.
lmao i ended up coming back but if i have a canon eos m3 and i want the Olympus 50mm F1.8 and the Helios 44-2 58mm F2.0 what adapters do i need?passive adapters or electric adapters pleasee im sorry im new to this
What about Canon FD lenses on APS-C Sony E?
