      I feel the same way about my instrument. I played all through grade school (also about 10 years) and didn't have the time or resources to continue when I went to college. I was heartbroken and I still miss it every day. And it wasn't nearly as all consuming in my life as gymnastics is for Nile. I can't imagine the heart-brokenness and pain he is experiencing. Especially since he didn't want to quit. To have your body just give up on you like that. To not be able to physically sustain the thing that literally gives you life must be... unimaginably painful to experience.

    • @melissac3618
      @melissac3618 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Same. Leaving something that resonates in your soul is traumatic on some level. I struggled to cope with life without gymnastics, so I went back, coach competitive girls teams now, and have never looked back. I'm not me without gymnastics.

    Absolute Legend. Although the chapter of competitive gymnastics ends, i think the chapter of content creation is just about to pop of. This fan base watches Niles video's because of Nile. It's about the man and his energy in the video's. Just imagine Nile doing more challenges in diverse sports. For example wth Eddie Hall, Rosse Edgley or just bantering around with his mates. He has a very good basis for a lot of sports and knows a lot of content creators. Former world class athlete trying out other sports, skills and challenges while having a bit of banter, i'd watch that. Nile can be very proud on what he has accomplished and should be excited on the new possibilities that has opened up now his new chapter has begon. Mans had a hell of career and has a bright future ahead as a content creator, nothing to be sad about.

    I’ve been following Nile now for almost 4 years and I new this was coming I just didn’t think it would be this soon .
    Nile’s videos always make me smile I love the ones where he’s just messing around in the gym
    I cried the whole way through this video but just because he’s retired don’t mean that he’s not the amazing Nile Wilson that everybody love 💙

    • @Alex-rh8mr
      @Alex-rh8mr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is the first video I’ve seen of his and I still cried pretty much the whole way through, too😭 he and his family are so god damn precious. We desperately need to shine more light on families like this that have a positive dynamic, who truly love and support one another. It’s great to see loving families and good parenting still exist in this insane world and on the internet.
      I was a gymnast for a big part of my life (in the US) starting at 3 years old, I was never particularly good though as in a whole ass decade I only made it up to level 6 lol. I’m 29 now and can basically only do like a handstand/walk on my hands (my fav), and even that hurts my wrists after not too long😅 I think it’s partly bc I stopped working out those muscles but also bc I’m getting kinda old. Well, in gymnastics years at least lol.
      I can’t believe I only just came across this powerhouse of an individual, I’m sad that I didn’t get to be a part of his journey with you guys but I already know the best is yet to come. He’s going to go on to make an even greater impact on ppl by coaching and working with them personally. I truly hope he can find peace for his mind and within himself, if anyone of us deserves that it’d probably be him.

    I just found your channel and it reminds me so much of when my younger sister (now 21) was on the preOlympic track (top four in either California or the whole US for her level at one point if I’m remembering correctly).
    We would watch you, Simone Biles, and so many other legendary gymnasts all the time and I could just see the fire of drive and admiration in her eyes.
    She eventually stopped due to many injuries and really mentally (and we later found out physically) abusive coaches.
    It was no longer the sport she loved and it was no longer a dream worth sacrificing her mental and physical health and other life opportunities for.
    The transition out was so hard for her and is still affecting her to this day I think...
    Thank you for being part of the biggest part of my little sister’s childhood.
    I cannot tell you how much respect I have for pro athletes especially gymnasts.

    I found your videos when I was a couple years out of college (university) and hadn’t really found my purpose. Around the same time, I’d decided I was tired of treadmills and fitness classes and needed to try something new. I started looking for something else to do and I found my lifelong sport (not gymnastics, sorry!) and two to three times a week I’d be sitting in my office between work and practice watching one of your videos. They would get me hyped up and motivated to do my best. And every time I drove from work to practice I would I’d pass Wilson Street and it was a fun little reminder to go out there and smash it. Your dedication, determination, and contagious energy have helped me so much in my journey as an athlete. I know you will take that same energy into all your future endeavors. Congratulations on your retirement and best of luck in everything you do next. Hope we get to see where life takes you!

    So well done- and GENEROUS OF SPIRIT: Nile for using his own personal tragedy he’s still working through (understandably) and all the other participants including his close inner circle (all committed to being upbeat when’s possible but this was as his Mom, Dad and sister says not possible to treat like other challenges they had been dealt), and the filmmakers including whoever edited the film ALL deserving so much CREDIT for doing this. I am sure it’s helped others in dark places, and will continue to do so. All involved esp Nile should be really proud of this film, and I hope it will be made available on many more platforms so it can reach even more people. I don’t know HOW to get this onto other platforms like NETFLIX, but hope the responses here on TH-cam will help. Maybe youtube could facilitate making this available on other platforms, as a public service and public health matter. It’s so well done, and that’s sadly not always the case with documentaries concerning this subject. Suicide is among the leading causes of death in the USA, where it’s usually listed as one of the “top 10” (occasionally falls to like 12th) causes of death yearly according to official government statistics (none yet circulated or tabulated about the pandemic, with many people having new pressures on them they don’t feel they did anything to deserve, just as Nile did nothing wrong; he tried to be humble with his prodigious talent and inspire others which he’s done... and continues to do). Kudos.
