I owned a McRae spyder hand built for targa tasmania I powered mine with a wrx subaru motor and trans adjusted to run as a trans axil 600bhp a road rocket and scary as hell!
Merritt Why would you do that to yourself?? Why put a monster engine in a lightweight, tiny deathtrap that has minimal protection and zero modern life-saving measures like crumple zones and airbags, and no driving aids? These cars are meant to be under-powered fun little cruisers, not insane bruisers!
So that MUST get a roll cage and 4 point shoulder harness or its a death trap. It is a nice looking death trap though but hey, safety. The street buggy I'm building will have a 6 point cage and shoulder harnesses. I also welded in a steel frame for the gas tank and tube steel bumpers front and rear as well as racing seats designed not to crush you in a wreck.
I drove a 120 HP 550 of about that weight which was the fastest accelerating from 4-6000 rpm I’ve ever driven, even the Formula Ford at the Skip Barber school. What year license plate does it carry?
It might be a replica from Thunder Ranch (now rock west racing). Last year when I went to the Phil Remington memorial in Riverside, Ca., I sat at the same table as Tom McBurnie. He owns Thunder Ranch, and could have made this kit. I think what I more important to note here is that Mr. Angelo had the opportunity (at about 1:30) to give credit to whomever produced this, and opted not. It looks as though we still have car guys that like leaving out little factiods like that.
Warren Jones I asked him on twitter and he said it was a company called Vintage Spyders! Its awesome that you got to sit with the guy who own Thunder Ranch they make some outstanding cars. To be honest I was ecstatic to see it it move. Love carcast but for the most part the only time you get to see a moving car its Adam on the track. Don't get me wrong I'm envious of his Nissan's and I'd love to drive Lagona - Mazda raceway.
Warren Jones I think it's better in a way if you don't get all the answers that way we have to reach out 2 people like robert and find out what you want to know. He was quick to respond and it's great getting to know people and find others in the hobby
Miatapeace91 Yeah, it was pretty cool speaking to McBurnie. We all had stick-on name badges, and I knew his (Tom's) sounded really familiar. we he got up for a few, I did a quick Google on my smartphone. Needless to say, I had a bunch of questions for him when he got back to the table.
Miatapeace91 : back in the 90's I worked at a shop in the same business complex in Upland, Ca where Beck was located at the time. Those fiberglass replicas were a hell of a lot stronger than one is lead to believe, and fast as well.
Other than behind the wheel, when did Adam stop showing up on vids on a channel named after him? ? Is he camera shy all the sudden? Not trolling- completely serious. There's likely a reason only 36k subs. I follow kayak fisherman that have 4 times that.
I love these, I just made a review of one myself. Take a look if you want more Porsche 550 Spyder action: th-cam.com/video/4PWec_VKUYA/w-d-xo.html. Thanks!
Not only a beautiful car, but an affordable model, that sounds nice and is probably so fun to drive! Congratz!
I own this car now. Lots of improvements made since this vid. It's an absolute blast!
Stop pretending.

"How's the roll-over protection?"
"Oh, it's excellent."
"What is it?"
"Don't roll it over"
Honestly it's to low to roll over unless you jump it lmao
wow , replica or not, has the essence as a spider porsche
Wow it's about time you actually started driving the cars. More driving videos please :-)
As simple and fun as it gets!
Nice human been Angelo! Very humble.
I like how Adam knows when his not needed.... keep up the good videos.
brilliant
Gorgeous.... ❤
That is a really nice car.

Wasn't this James Dean's car? Gorgeous, replicar or otherwise. Mahalos!
Yea this is the car he owned and was killed in.
Nice car
For a 1.9L the exhaust sounds great
Sweet!
that is gorgeous.
This replica is really set-up right. It sits the way it should.
Love that 1950's rollover protection. Hope you have a hard head.
What’s the appreciation/depreciation on 550 spyder replicas?
wow!
Steel tube frame, NOT aluminum.
cool car, cool name ;-)

If you drive one of these it's more about pure fun than ultimate safety...your car sounds nice and safe...what does your husband drive?
nice
Fun to drive - good enough.

Jimmy Dean drove one one these, and sadly to his death.
+Jaski Kiiski also known as Jimmy
william holzman
no shit sherlock!!!
Thanks for the news flash although Trump would say that is fake news!
Jimmy Dean died from eating too much Jimmy Dean sausage, not a Porsche! LMAO
If I am not mistaken the original 550's had the Fuhrman 4 cam engine in it???.
Darn’t if I know..... CMJ
It had a top speed of 140 mph. Which was an amazing feat in the 1950's. Dean called it the "Little Bastard."
and some people want to say the Miura is the worlds first super car.
Never heard of Robert Angelo.
1:53 fiberglass body showing cracks.
its better then original
Is it a Beck 550? Man I want one it's my favorite car of all time. Thanks! It was nice to see a car in motion other than Adam on the track

Jimmy is dead because of the Porsche company, but i still want one of these!!! lol

Vintage Spyders
MrCarguy427
