    Excellent breakdown Rob. Enjoyed all your previous writeups & videos on all the QBs as well as other prospects.
    Your last writeup on Penix was very thorough pointing out the positives & negatives.
    I'm sure some will go based on just your "1st" Bigboard by itself. They won't bother to read through all your previous QB writeups.
    They'll also forget it was quite some time ago you said you would be fine if Seattle took Penix or Rattler in the 1st Round.
    Or the fact you always say we have to wait until the season is over, the Senior Bowl, Combine, & Pro Days; before making a true evaluation.
    This is while still never knowing all the full medicals or background issues.
    Really hoping Ewers still comes out, the more options the better.
    Penix seems to have similar knocks as Stroud. Though Penix has the injury background. The Georgia game was huge for Stroud along with his throwing sessions.
    Obviously Texas & Michigan aren't the caliber of Georgia.
    Still, another big game for Penix & Good Senior Bowl, Combine & or Pro Day; should definitely help push Penix higher as well.
    I appreciate the honest, thorough evaluation you do.
    Keep up the great work and keeping it real on all levels.
    Will definitely be an interesting offseason.

    I think a lot of it is that if he goes #1 or even top 10, and the Huskies win the title, UW will have a massive recruitment advantage with QBs. People want it because theyve watched him be awesome and it would be good for the team they love. Great shit Rob. I agree with you 100% he is a good player prone to struggling under pressure. Hard to fairly evaluate. Penix has benefited by having great receivers and OL and a solid running back who also blocks really well. His deep accuracy is often phenomenal, but having great receiver on the other end makes that more impressive. Injuries happen to a lot of QBs and he seems fine now. No idea how big a deal being a lefty is, but as a lefty myself I'd hope it's not really an issue. Probably a high 1st round draft pick by a QB needy team just because of his upside in the most important position, especially if he plays well against Michigan which should provide his toughest test yet.

    The problem is west cost fans and evaluators have seen him play all year and this is the same guy we saw in the Texas game. What irks me is some smartass “experts” on the east coast who haven’t seen all his games making these prognostics about him based on some games in the middle of the season they didn’t watch where one game was in a rain deluge against a top 10 Oregon State team, another was against Oregon’s defense, another was against Arizona which finished in the top 20. There were a couple games where like Stanford and Washington state (which at one time was in the top 10) where those teams played tough against the Huskies for whatever reason. There were games where Washington was heavily penalized and it caused a lot of third and long situations and the offense couldn’t get going. It’s not fair to blame every down performance by the team on Penix.

Oh, Caleb Williams... dude paints his nails, and literally, like not exaggerating, cried in his mother's arms on national television after penix dunked on him.
    Penix is humble, his team mates love him. Just listen to him, or look at his demeanor after the two biggest games in his life. On the biggest stage where they were the underdogs he threw for 430 yards and took them to the title. On top of that shit he throws as good a ball as anyone else in the draft idc wtf anyone says. That ball zips out of his hand with velocity I've only seen from a few in the league.

  • @sirrobin8998
    @sirrobin8998 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My problem with your take is that you are cherry picking the games in which Penix played "poorly" (I use this term loosely and relatively, his only real bad game was against ASU when the whole team had the flu) to knock him and dismiss truly insane performances like against Oregon (both games this year and last year), Texas, USC, MSU, Cal, etc. You could say the exact same thing about Caleb Williams and his performances against Notre Dame and Utah. Or Drake Maye vs South Carolina, Clemson, or NC State. If someone watches Drake Maye and Penix play and honestly believes Drake Maye is a better player, they simply don't know ball. And yet, there is no doubt in my mind that Caleb Williams is going to go number one overall, and Maye not long after. My point is that you can cherry pick specific games/plays to make any player look good or bad. To get an accurate view of them you need to look at their body of work in its entirety, and you don't lead the power 5 in passing 2 years in a row as Penix has without being an outstanding quarterback worth considering taking very early. Even at Indiana, he elevated some otherwise pretty pedestrian teams to an unprecedented level. He did not have an amazing offensive line or stud receivers like Odunze/McMillan/Polk, so I don't like your argument that he's succeeding because of the team around him (though you're right that that certainly helps and teams need to account for it while evaluating him). We have seen a mediocre Indiana team become very good under him, and a talented but dreadfully unproductive offense at UW become the best in the country with him at QB.
    You make a good point about it being silly for some people changing their opinion of him based off of only the Texas performance, and I completely agree with that. Evaluating players based off singular performances is foolish. I also agree that he should not be drafted in the top 3-5. I have believed since the start of last year that Penix has top 5 pick talent, while also believing that he was a risky pick due to his injury history, which will prevent him from being taken that early. He is however far, far too good to slide into the second round regardless of what happens against Michigan in the national championship game (unless his performance is truly dreadful, which would be very surprising to me). The Texas game has done nothing to change that opinion for me. In reality I think he will go in the mid first because he has immense arm talent, great accuracy, reads the field very well, and has good pocket presence, but also needs a good offensive line and receivers to be a top tier quarterback, which teams in the bottom of the league generally don't have. But I don't see any reason why he cant be a great NFL QB in the right landing spot; he has all the traits that scouts look for in addition to unparalleled production. I actually think that Seattle is a natural landing spot for him for that reason, as long as we can improve the IOL in the offseason as well, and I would be thrilled if we took him with our first round pick.

      @@robstatonfootball you didn't, but you emphasized that there was a stretch of games in the middle of the season where his completion percentage was down and he was missing his targets more. That's true, but its normal for QBs to have fluctuating stats and performances. If you look at his overall body of work both this year and previous years, his film and production are outstanding. You seem to agree with me that he has awesome traits in the video, and the production is undeniable, so im having a hard time seeing why you are so low on him as a prospect. • @sirrobin8998
      @sirrobin8998 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robstatonfootball I think its important to look at the quality of defenses he was playing against during that stretch. I think fixing the OL is the top priority in FA & Draft. If we can't pay for a top RG or RT (so that we can use chronic knee Abe Lucas as a v good backup). We need to draft a RT in rd 1. U need 3 OT's to win SB's & in a 17 game season (soon to be 18 games as per Florio & Peter King), u have to have strong depth in both trenches.
    Look how a good OL made CJ Stroud look great & how a weak OL got B Young bashed up.
    Geno is a top 10 QB according to Orlovsky Aikman Mel Kiper Kurt Warner & many others. Priority is trenches boys. A 3rd gr8 draft & FA wins 2 SB's in a row in Feb 2025 & 2026.
    Trade away or pay cut Diggs Adams Uchenna Mone Dissly as big bucks on IR is no good. Dont change Genos contract as he is in a great groove after surviving 4 near IR injuries due to running 4 his life from pass rush via our leaky iOL.

      He wasn’t negative at all…. Just talking about him as a draft prospect.
      In terms of the Seahawks, what is there to be enjoying? He’s a prospect. The Huskies aren’t tied to them.
      This is why I don’t want Seattle to draft him. Husky fans will ruin the kid. And they can’t be realistic.

      I'm getting really fed up with this constant talk of negativity, positivity, it's such a 21st Century binary concept, fueled by populism and social media. Back in the day, any discussion around, almost anything really, had pros and cons and the goal was to be objective in ones appraisal.

    Penix is a second round pick, he's better then Geno when he came out of college. Should be a starter 1/2 way through the season. The seahawks should definitely draft him. That gives them control for the next 4-5 years.

    They’ll be talking about him as the #1 overall pick if he plays well and beats Michigan. He makes tremendous downfield throws and you’re acting like they aren’t. CJ Stroud had amazing wide receivers as well.

    • @bretkester8316
      @bretkester8316 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stroud also did it and called the plays himself against one of the best defenses in recent memory.
      Penix plays in a friendly system and did it against Texas. And Michigan is a good, not great defense. Context matters. He’s not Caleb Williams. Or Maye. Or Daniels. Or Rattler.
      Rob has also talked about how amazing his deep throws are. I’d try finishing the video or reading the article first.

    C'mon Rob, don't dig in on this one. Your evaluation of him as a 3rd round pick was just off. He's a top 15 pick at worst, probably top 10. And a 60% completion percentage 20 years ago would have made him an all-time great. Your analysis is usually great, but you can get entrenched on guys sometime. I used to think his ceiling was Tua. Now I think his floor is Tua. Lots of teams are going to see it that way. I'd love if the Seahawks got Penix or Rattler. Either way, just put him in the 1st round on your board and let's move on.

    • @bretkester8316
      @bretkester8316 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think he’s going to move him up just because a random comment thinks so…
      I would mention maybe watching his tape from an NFL mindset, including Indiana. See the same problems still there. Or take off the purple glasses.
      He probably will go in the first. Probably should. But him getting lifted THIS high after one game? People are making him sound generational or sure-fire, can’t miss….

      Entrenched?
      Did you read all his past QB articles, as well as the previous write ups on the Bigboard and players on it?
      When he put Penix as a 3rd round pick, & said he could easily go high 2nd.
      It was also his 1st big board which always changes. He even mentioned that.
      Rob said his grades would change after the season, Senior Bowl, Combine, & Pro Days.
      He also said he would be fine with Seattle taking Penix in the 1st round.
      I haven't seen or heard anything that different from what he's been saying.
      Obviously, age, injury, & scheme matter; as well as the players around him.
      It's a well layed out analysis that he's written.
      Rob also isn't even close to putting out his final Bigboard.
      It seems your judgment is purely on his 1st Big Board alone; not previous videos & write ups.
      Just like last year, Rob's final Bigboard & thoughts had Stroud, Richardson, Levis, then Young in that order. Things change.
      I'm expecting quite a few new players added &; others with changed round grades, when he posts his final board.
      The fact he said he'd be fine with Seattle taking Penix in the 1st quite some time ago says plenty.
      That was before the Texas game with all the fanfare. It would also mean the Hawks were fine with his medicals.
      He also said he'd be fine with them taking Rattler in the 1st round.
      It sounds more like your Entrenched on only going based on his 1st Bigboard; not anything else he's written or talked about on the subject.
      However, like you I'd be fine with Penix or Rattler in the 1st.
      Ironically, Rob stated this long ago in his references to Penix & Rattler.
      His "1st" Bigboard might not reflect that opinion, but his words definitely have.
