Ey Mike! I been a little busy this week but wanted to say I'm super juiced on this truck build! I have a couple more notes for that rear suspension to help you decide what you wanna do. So your main dilemma is that you want it softer for regular street driving but need it stiffer for towing, if you leave it super stiff all the time you risk looping out in a truck. Don't ask me how I know lol. One option is to use what is called an Add-A-Leaf pack, it bolts on to the leaf spring to add some tension. You need new leafs to begin with because they probably pulled some in the stock leaf pack to lower it thats why it so bouncy. If your new leafs aren't low enough you can use a lowering drop shackle. Side note on drop shackles, they dont play nice with gettin sideways (dont recommend this with leafs in general esp without a panhard bar.) Your other option as talked about is the air bag method. You can leave it deflated when normal driving and then just hook an air line up to fill it for your towing session. You don't need to keep pumps and tanks etc in the truck for this. Maybe bring a portable air tank if you need to adjust it mid trip if its a long ways. They typically mount between axle and frame or leaf and frame I haven't seen this year of truck so I don't know for sure on these. You do have a third, much more extensive option which is to 3 or 4 link the rear and do a bunch of custom work to swap to coils in the rear. Then you could adjust the height like usual or even swap out spring rates but I feel like you are going to have a very hard time finding something that will put up with towing abuse on coils. This is a tough one for sure G can't wait to see what you decide I know you always smart about this type of thing and will find the right solution for you.

Yo mike adding shock extenders for the rear would help out alot since the truck is dropped it needs smaller shocks or just some shock extenders so the shocks can do its jobb. Hoping to see this truck beast asff just like all the other builds😎

Double first name! Because all 99-02 trucks/ suv interiors are interchangeable. Look into finding an pre 03 Escalade or Yukon Denali interior. Also the Yukon Denali and Escalade gauge clusters are 120mph speedometers and they also have a trans temp gauge. You could also use a 2500 gas truck cluster… The Gauge clusters are plug and play all 99-02 trucks are pre wired for the trans temp gauge as well. A painted to match 99-02 2500hd front end is a nice touch as well look into that as well.

congrats on the truck. I wouldn't turbo it. If it's going to tow, a turbo 5.3 wouldn't be great. The stock motor should be fine and you run into lag issues and constantly being in boost when towing. it would create a lot of heat soak and could cause hotter engine temps. id raise it up as well. lowered trucks don't really haul all that well either because it's already maxing the bump stops out so adding another 5K lbs in trailer/car weight will create axle wrap. I'd raise it up and get deaver springs(if funds allow). I'd run 2-2.5" leveling over stock height. run stock leafs + a helper spring in the rear and maybe bags in the rear to help the rear suspension from sag.

Mike you gotta get the 03-05 seats. Hella more comfortable than the ones you got and if you can get the ones with the arm rest or the center console; life changing. I got 300k miles on my 05 cateye and my seats show virtual no wear/ no rips nothing. And I'm a big dude like yourself
you dont need to c notch the frame unless you are droppin it on the ground and if you do that then you also need a 4 link with bags but then at that piont it wont be much of a tow rig you need to find out what you want to use it for and build accordingly
You need to do an HD front end and get the Denali interior for the center console and captain seats, it’s a MUST and they bolt right up. And yeah lol you gotta get them power windows

But highly recommend a Denali interior swap, captain seats and full center console makes driving these models soooo much better!
Def need some sort of alarm and kill switch combo mike since those trucks are hot for people stealin em, also you gonna need shock extenders since the truck is on a 2/4 drop and you put stock shocks in the rear, better the ride quality especially with a c notch. If you plan on towing slap a set of helper bags in the bag it’ll help alot
Mike, I had a 97' Chevy shortbed back in the day. I had the same problem with the locks. Turns out the GM keys wear down pretty quick. So I had a new key made and BAAM, issues fixed.
