Great video Travis. As a 36 years post injury quad. My advice is to take every opportunity thrown at you. Walking is so overrated, my wheelchair never stopped me living the life I wanted. You have a long and potentially very fulfilled life ahead of you. Your mindset is amazing. Look after the important parts of being disability. Just never allow your mind to be disabled.
    Hope that all makes sense?

Good for you (I mean this genuinely). My father is going on 23 years and he has let his physical disability consume him hold him back in every aspect of his life which has been exhausting to deal with as a caretaker.

Hi Travis! Thanks for sharing your story. Even though you've suffered this catastrophic injury, you've still done things that many of us physically able folks are too timid or afraid to do. You are proof that we are too often limited by our own thoughts & lack of courage, more so than our physical abilities. All the best to you, Travis! God bless!

Travis thank you for sharing this. Back in 2019 I woke up and I couldn't move my legs. Called the doctor's office and was told he was booked for the next 4 weeks. While walking holding on to things I tripped and fell, and I ended up breaking my neck. Like not being able to use my legs wasn't bad enough. Anyway, my story is too long for the space allowed on here, so I'll make it short. They said I wouldn't walk again. I'm walking with a cane. I'm not fast but I'm not sitting in the wheelchair they arranged for me. People I didn't even know were making decisions for me. I live in a second floor Condo, and they all said I should move into a facility for someone in my condition. I didn't listen and I'm glad I didn't. Hearing your story made me reminisce back to the beginning. Travis, your right, people will tell you that you can't do certain things, they mean well but they're not always right. You do think about your life and the things we took for granted. I don't do that anymore. Every day is a Gift and that's how I treat it. Travis, thanks again for sharing your story and whatever you do don't give up because it does get better. You are proof. P.S. we're both proof.!

Not sure what to say. Nothing comes to mind that fits, or is encouraging. It seems like no guy wants anyone feeling sorry for them, so, no need for that. I couldn't watch the whole video at first. There's all these awful people out here that skate by and Nothing bad seems to ever happen to them. Then some good young dude has the world crash down on him in total randomness, not from risk, not from bad intentions, not even from negligence. Either there is some plan we can't understand, or it is totally random.

  • @stevenhorne5089

Hey Travis. You look almost exactly the same as I did after I busted C5-6. I did the 7 months of therapy at the spinal cord rehab center I was in. Three and a half months into my injury, a lot of muscles just started turning themselves back on. At that point rehab. started kicking my ass. All I wanted to do each day was to go back to my room after therapy and sleep. And the next morning the nurses & therapist's were getting me out of bed to start therapy even before breakfast was brought to my room. They kept telling me that there was to much work to be done, and we needed to take advantage of what was happening. It was crucial that those muscles needed to be worked as hard as they could before the atrophy made the muscle to weak to work. One of the biggest problems we had was that nobody had ever seen a C5-6 with the amount of return that I was having after almost 4 months of nothing. Nobody knew how to teach a quad. to pee again. Pooping again was relatively easy, but it was really hard for the Dr. to tell me what needed to be done to pee on my own. They had never come across this opportunity and weren't sure what I needed to do. I was walking, granted very slowly, but if I can walk, I should be able to pee on my own. We just didn't know what to do.
When I was released from the hospital, they had ordered a wheelchair for me. By the time it was delivered though, the only thing I was using it for was getting dressed in the morning. Please let me know if there's something I can give to you. Any intelligence I can give you, or techniques that worked for me, or just someone to compare notes with. It would mean the world to me if I could pass along any knowledge that would help you, and then you pass it on to the next walking quad.
    Take care my friend.

If your looking for more video ideas, I would love to hear your thoughts on what to say and what not to say to a quadriplegic. I know your more than your story, but there are so many areas many of us don’t know what’s encouraging and what’s not. What’s helpful and what’s annoying lol. Oh God bless you, Travis! I had cancer around the time of your injury. I am thankful to be alive. I came through this by the grace of the Lord. I cannot do what I used to do. This is hard for me to accept. You taught me something today🙏😊 Thanks for sharing. Live in hope!

Music volume doesn't need to be that loud. I refuse to adjust my volume just to have to readjust for the next video so I chose not to view the loud videos. Good luck to this young man.

Travis, you got a slight flaw in your approach. You got to be more stubborn if you want to overcome this obstacle. I started my journey with full quadriplegia.. just walked outdoors recently without walking aids. Watch part 1 to 10 for ideas how I managed to do it. And DO NOT start by saying this guy is different to me.. it will stop you before you even start

    SO SAD.
    ALL the VERY BEST.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing is to KNOW God. - And to save Your soul.
If your soul is not saved, you/us/we will go into hell. FACT. PERIOD.

We're ALL just one fall / accident away from a wheelchair. I'm sorry this happened to you. I pray you're doing well ✝✝. Did you just fall on the pavement or off an embankment or into something ? My uncle had polio and he had surgery that left him paralyzed. Para. He was in a wheelchair for many years and he would have UTI's and pressure sores. I will keep you in my prayers 🙏

The sad moment is that able people
    Hardly think of disable people
    Not everyone
But when people came disable than they are in the World of the Disable many can't cope
But now they know how people
    With disableties feel
    ,many are judge ,mental
But they forget it's not their fault

They're going to fix this. I believe this 100% and it will happen in the next ten years. Then walking for paraplegics and quads will be like deaf people deciding if they want a cochlear implant.

You are an inspiration to all, stronger and more successful than most could ever dream of! There’s only a few who has that kind of determination to become a survivor after a life changing situation, I’m so glad you are one of them and willing to share your strength. Your being so open about it will undoubtably help others, especially youngsters. Huge hugs from the UK.xx❤
