With over 63,000 Rangers sold in 2023 and a high proportion of these I see on the road being V6, if KIA don't offer a V6 Diesel it won't sell in numbers, so it will be relegated to GWM or Triton sales numbers of around 9,000 and 16,000, if they offer V6 diesel from release the competition will know they mean business, otherwise it will be just another 4cyl slush box.
If they offer the 6cyl turbo petrol at a decent price I think it could do really well, at the moment the only other option is the raptor at 100k. I think given the option plenty of people would prefer a petrol alternative, especially those that barely ever see the dirt. If it only comes in the 4cyl diesel then they have no chance of upsetting the market leaders. I'm actually more surprised that they aren't launching at as a hybrid.
2.2 diesel turbo I’ve had in the Hyundai Hylander, gutless off the mark, gutless loaded, honestly I’ve literally just taken possession of a ranger V6 I’m getting 9.2 litres per hundred around town
They’ve got some work to do. Flares look horrendous. Need a V6 diesel. Whoopee, two twelve inch screens that will house switching. The one in the dash looks like someone added it as an afterthought. Ever tried using one on a country road while you bounce around? Tactile knobs and switches on a 4WD thanks.
looks exactly just like the new triton . all the new cars looks the exact same , I miss when the cars from the 90s and 00s all could be distinguished just by body shapes from a distance
That's defnitely not the car that was in Australia, it's a clay/foam model, hence why you can't see in the windows, the grille is closed off, there's no visible suspension, and the brakes are missing calipers (I bet the real ones won't be that big). If you pause on the underside shot at 1:15 it's very clearly a model.
With all the renderings I've seen, this is by far the worst looking version, those fender flares are an epic fail. Surely Kia did some market research on this with their target audience!
Looks fantastic outside and inside. Those fender flares can be blended with grey or black paint. Inside looks amazing, that screen 👀, dual wireless chargers, sun roof, it’s got it all. Raptor has the engine and suspension, but this looks like it’s gonna compete very well in Aus. We needed someone to raise the benchmark for the same dollar, for example Hilux’s are disgustingly basic and ask for max dollar 🤮 I’ve had a brand new SR5 for 7 years and vowed to not buy another again for how basic they are. Ford is the leader atm, but KIA will definitely find a place in Aus!
Honestly... wtf were they thinking with design? this has to be up there with one of the worst looking cars i have ever seen lol. I cant see this taking off here at all in Australia.
Despite the polarising look, that I'm struggling with, the tech and features sound impressive. However, without 180kW and 550-600Nm, I won't be considering buying one, as I need a vehicle that can easily tow 3T. Unfortunately, I think Kia will struggle to compete with the Ranger in terms of sales for now with this first Gen Tasman.
I actually thought they were trolling when they allowed the prototype out, wrapped in camo, but it appears not!! IT'S HIDEOUS!! Repulsive. As a KIA fan, I'd hoped they would actually make something to actually rival the market leaders. If anything, they'll be too busy rolling on their asses laughing at this monstrosity. And I'm a diehard KIA Pro_Ceed GT Tech owner. KIA canned it here after 2 years, and a dismal 700 odd sales, it is actually a kickass car so, based on that, if it sells more than 200 units, and isn't discontinued after a year, I'll eat my hat.
The trim above the wheels arches is chav. Those "huge brake discs" are legit trims. No brake callipers holding them, so not the cross drilled discs they are implying.
Kia have military vehicle line up so they are femilier with 4x4 I think this vehicle will find it way in Australian market also it is very smart approach to chose Australian market because it will have after market 4x4 upgrades soon
If its ugly (which I'm pretty sure it will be), its not going to sell that well here against stiff competition...Kia have some great designs but I feel this is going to be hideous :(
You’ll see plenty of these picking up kids from school all over Australia. Never used as a Ute other than the once a year car trip and the interior will be more comfortable than any other Ute on the market which will make it appealing. However I feel private buyers will need the price to be VERY competitive against the alternatives to make a dent.
I just hope those plastic wheel arch things are only on there to throw people off, because they look hideous. If they don't offer a V6 diesel or petrol for that matter when it's released, It will be a waste of time as it will have no chance competing with the favourites.
Going for the best of everything you said ,except the engine if its only a 2 litre the TASMEN has failed. It needs to be at least a 6 litre turbo or a v8 .
If the exterior design is released in the USA, itll sell 10 units. Its super ugly. and Im a big KIA fan. I hope it looks different. the wheel fender component looks like an after thought. it has nothing over my Telluride as far as body design
A serious off roader? Obviously the desk jockey designers have not driven propper off road in the bush. Those front flares and the headlights, yeah they will get ripped off in no time, big insurance claims are on their way!
I have to say I was freaking out when I first saw this in camo as I’ve been waiting for this Kia Ute ever since they said it was in development and have held off purchasing a new Ute for years now waiting for this. I do have to saw the first few times I have seen pictures of the Tasman like this I instantly went 🤮🤮🤮 and almost went and ordered a new Ranger but the more I look at it and try to see past the camouflage the more I feel I’m seeing it will be a good looking vehicle and I feel that the wrap has purposely been developed to hide a hell of a lot so I’m going to wait for the unveiling before making my judgment. I’m definitely disappointed that it’s highly unlikely to receive the V6 from the Mohave (a vehicle I desperately wish Kia would bring to Australia) but the quality of service and the rare support we have received from Greater Western Kia in Kingswood NSW has been nothing short of exceptional and that makes me feel comfortable to wait especially when I’ve heard the difficulties some people have had with after sales support from the Ford dealers in a decent radius from where I live and that Ford Australia hasn’t managed to implement a simple turbo oil feed line solution for the V6 that has been a documented issue since release (it wouldn’t be hard to get a bulk batch made by one of many quality local hose manufacturers in Australia and switch them over during pre delivery preparation) and also the fact that the Ranger needs a tub support kit as an option to carry loads on a rack is disappointing but definitely not a deal breaker but still disappointing considering they are advertised as work and lifestyle vehicles.
Unfortunate there's not a current announcement of US marketing although there's been reports of it being tested in California. I think some of the exterior design choices won't be popular for the American market but as a current Kia Soul owner that's eyeing a return to a midsize truck (Chevy S-10/Colorado), I'm interested how Kia can offer a high-tech comfortable ride in a "manly man" truck.
Somehow I don’t think the big cheeses at Toyota, Ford and Isuzu are losing too much sleep about the technicolor dreamcoat pretender. Maybe it is just me, but I have yet to see it moving the game along in any particular area.
2 questions ; 1. Is it a full monocoque body? I can't see a gap between cab and tray 2. Does it have rear drum brakes? That shot of the brakes looks like a cheap imitation rotor that's been mounted over the top of a drum brake
Personally, too large. Market seems to be missing a mid sized utility that can be driven in urban areas. Pretty sure that wont fit in the supermarket car park.
It doesn’t look too bad with the all-terrain tyres on it, but those flares have to go or it be made available without them because it currently looks stupid with them. If it wants to compete with the Ranger which is popular because it’s boxy and rugged looking, it shouldn’t have some futuristic interior that looks like an electric car, blokes that want to feel mucho Don’t want that interior

Really wanted to jump ship from a 19 Wildtrak & try something new, like this or even a BYD Shark , but these manufactures are doing my head in... BYD's recently so called customer service nightmare & this design coupled with the engine variations may just not do it for me.... May have to wait & have a look at the hybrid ranger & outlay the big bucks when released. 🤷♂🤷♂
How come all non NA mid size trucks (tasman excluded) are so round and crossovery especially when the D-Max is a sibling to the colorado and the hilux a sibling to the Tacoma
Exterior isn't looking pretty for the Tasman, but based on obvious hints of deception in the camo & how they've managed to make the Carnival look appealing to all motorists. I have fingers crossed that the Tasman proves us wrong when we finally get the official unveiling
Hopefully it has full time all wheel drive as an option , in the kia .in the ranger you have to pay 70 000 aud for this because its only available on the v6 ranger. On the hilux its not even available People love to hype garbage , ranger most money spent on marketing and not reliability Hilux is reliable but ancient, and toyota sells it as expensive as a ranger but it is outdated.
If Kia was smart they would try to make the Tasman capable of towing it’s predicted 3.5t towing capacity at full GVM not like any other Ute on in this range, we all know the 3.5t is a awesome marketing strategy but no Ute in this segment can tow that at full GCM and I feel that if Kia can achieve this that would be a massive advantage. In saying I don’t think a vehicle this size should tow 3.5t but it would definitely be safer for those that do want to tow that heavy with this type of vehicle to have the vehicle as heavy as possible and not have to strip the weight of the tow vehicle down to its bare minimum weight to be able to tow its maximum capacity.
I'm seriously thinking those dreadful bulges over the wheel arches are purely there to throw us off; there's been so much negatively said about them, they surely wouldn't dare... why would they bother to attempt to cover them up otherwise!

It looks like it has a huge overhang behind the rear wheels, similar to the previous Tritons.

I don’t think the Ranger, Hilux or any other Ute in fact has anything to worry about. The Tasman is the ugliest Ute out there.
I think the headlamps are a split duel design. The secondary lights have been covered up.
RIP ranger! With that engine😂
The ranger has more torque though, 610 Nm vs 510 Nm. Possibly two extra gears in the Ranger too. Better for towing at least.
I don’t know who signed off on whatever that is, but they should be sacked.
