Rustic Fireplace Revival at the Dovetail Log Cabin

- Some folks say that a log cabin is not finished unless there is a stone and mortar hearth or fireplace. I have been delaying this project largely because I have almost no experience working with concrete and stone. It started off looking a bit rough. but as I continued to work at it, I was able to create a functional and (to me) esthetically pleasing hearth. I also did some upgrades to the cabin including refinishing the floor, installing shelves, and redoing the window frames.
Thank-you for watching!

What a beautiful cabin, Amazing vidéo ! Thank you for Sharing 👍 pozz svima ot sefer I marija. Francija
Great job ! and no cursing. Usually a lot of that when I undertake a project. The one thing we do have in common is when completed I too can say...there, that's not going anywhere.
I've got the luxury of editing! Otherwise we'd have even more in common
Looks great. All these opinions. To be proud of.
What I learned building stone on walls was to give them a good wipe with a sponge and some water to remove the mortar from the rocks and smooth it all out. It sure isn’t easy, looks really nice, good job!
Very nice.
Great tip! did try to keep them clean (unsuccessfully) but then ended up needing to use the grinder and wire wheel to get them actually clean
Or preferably don't use river rocks at all. They've spent millions of years on the bottom soaking up water and if there are water pockets inside them the water can start to boil and expand which potentially makes them ticking shrapnel grenades.
An idea down the road maybe is to make a wood box on the outside so all you need to do is open the door from the inside. Therefore saving room in the inside. My dad had one and then at my house years ago, he helped build one or I should say he built it. It held a lot of wood and helped in the winter. :)
Nice cabin
I really love the great work that you have done to build this cabin. While you are so fortunate being young and having this
You are so smart you know even to put down tar paper
Awesome stone work
Nice job and the stones are beautiful
Just another great video. Keep them coming. God Bless.
Nice job
You worked very hard on that stove project.
Fireplace looks pretty, like your cabin 👍👏
Very cool restoration 😮
Life enjoy ,in amazing country 😊
Que rincon, de cuento. Disfrutalo al maximo. Saludos....
Very cool, looks Amazing.
Looks nice and cozy.
Great Job!😇
The changes at the Dove Tail Cabin are a great upgrade! Sending well wishes to you and yours for the Holiday Season, JB. 😁👋😉
Thanks JB! Always great to hear from you. Greetings to you and yours as well
Most beautiful fireplace ever!!!
Nice - Thanks for the video😇
I really enjoy watching these types of videos. It is always cool to see the end results. If Im being honest, I dont really like the rock wall look. But you did Great. Well done good sir. Best wishes to you and your family 😎👋🙏🙏
Esse lugar é lindo, onde fica?
Looks fantastic,what a beautiful,cozy home you're creating!
Amei sua casa e a paisagem é maravilhosa ❤❤❤
Great 👏👏👏👏
Happy Thanksgiving! Nice edit.
Your stone work looks excellent. Had I done that, every stone would be crooked.
Oh, mine are pretty crooked too but overall it has an alright look I think.
Looks good but them pipe brackets for your shelving are two small.
Gostei muito bom 🇧🇷
Not sure that rocks against the wood are correct in terms of the necessary reflective barrier behind a wood stove
Hola buenas noches por qué no haces un camino hacia el río bueno es una sugerencia disculpa
Wow, all that work for that?
You should have used the same as you used for the rock floor and put 'em on the walls.
Lots of trouble for so little.
I saw your two solar panels. With all that running water 16:43 , why don’t you put in hydro electric power? That will charge your battery 24/7. Later
It's a good idea, I should really look more into it!
Just a great job. Do you lose much heat through the door?
A bit for sure. It's just 2 inch pine. Might be worth upgrading at some point.
👍
Looks great! You’re not worried about the river rocks exploding?
I feel like it's pretty unlikely. Maybe more so if they were directly in the fire.
❤🎉 Hello good
I just wonder what kind of toilet they made.
Ich möchte auch so eine Hütte so kann man helfe bekomme und was kostet das. 😅❤😊
Nice looking hearth there eh! Water looked cold lol... was pricing hardware a while back for shelving like you made a HD back off because of the cost... where did you get your piping supplies?
Thanks for sharing
I got them a good while ago before prices were so wild. I saw some on Kijiji at one point too. But yea, right now it's not worth buying!
Nice work. I don't recall ever meeting you but we are cousins. Please say hello to my little sister who lives out at the end of your road and to all your family. Regards and best wishes from Vancouver B.C.
Yes, we are. I don't think we've ever met either, but I know of you for sure. Thanks for writing, nice to connect!
please tell me what this heavy thing you put on the floor under the stove……… is it stone or asbestos?! 🍷
Just a stone hearth
River stones is not really something you should use as insulation material when dealing with heat. They've been soaking up water for millions of years and one day they might actually explode if the water inside them starts to boil.
😂😅😊
It's always funny when newbs use creek rocks for a fire 😂🤣🤣🤣

Может ваш дом сгореть.
Должно быть само охлаждение,через зазоры от стен,пола и потолка.
Me parece una estupidez dar cárcel a quien cante mal el himno nacional y me parece una mentada a todos los mexicanos .
Except that this is not a fireplace, it's a wood stove! Get real!
Thanks!
Bellissimo! 👍👏👏👏
16:08 you can GET insects🦟🐛🐜🐞🪲🕷️ from the wood 🪵 on your clothes
