    I always write my comments while I'm watching a video, because otherwise I forget half of what I wanted to say. Unfortunately I was so curious about what other videos you have that I clicked over to your home page before hitting the "comment" button and lost everything I wrote. What I do remember is that I had to pause four times to stare into space over the simple brilliance of some of your tips, such as drawing all the lines on the batting before doing any stitching, and using a crochet hook for popping out the corners (looks like it does a much better job than using a chopstick!). Your tutorial is excellent, with everything clearly shown and explained; and I love the fabrics you used. I've saved this video to my "non quilt sewing projects" playlist for future use. Thank you for posting it!

    I forgot to comment the first time I watched this video. I love ice cream, sherbet, and sorbet. Vanilla, chocolate, butter pecan, salted caramel, chocolate with marshmallow are my favorite ice creams. For sherbets and sorbets, I love most of the fruit flavors.

    You can zig zag that batting together for mug rugs or small areas.
    I honestly never use to save little pieces that much, but with everything costing more, I do now.
    And some of it because I just retired and my salary is lower also. 😊

      I love to frankenpiece my batting. I use the smaller strips for fabric postcards. Sometimes if I already a small bin full of scraps I’ll toss the smaller pieces.

    Hi Robin, I just made an icecream cozy with a pocket for a wet wipe & did a vertical seam to create a narrow pocket for a spoon. It turned out so stinking cute & it's still reversible. Great gift adding the pockets for wipe & spoon. 🥄 Thanks for seeing your method!

    All those lines would make a nice quilting pattern for a block. You could take and leave a turning spot in one of the darts. I may not be reversible but may make it easier for some that worry sewing it closed and getting a good look.

    oh and my favorite ice cream is nice cream: frozen bananas in a blender, oat milk, sunflower butter, cocoa powder, and sometimes i use some pea protein powder. you can also add honey or maple syrup. It usually is too runny, so i make it into a frosty.

    My fav is white choc inner & outer Magnum. From a specialist shop I love pecan. In a tub I love Cornish cream. I was thinking; these cozy's could be used for small containers if the points were sewn down. I finally got to my sewing yesterday and finished my Ukraine wall hanging. Today I'm hand sewing the back of the binding. I had to stop whilst watching this video so I didn't make my stitches too big 😁 Have a great weekend, whatever you're doing 🤔

    Robin, I know that to be microwave safe, a bowl cozie has to be 100% cotton (fabric, thread, & batting), but my question is: Is 100% "Pima" cotton thread microwavable? I have several spools of this and cannot find out what "Pima" means. Is it just cotton or is it a "coated" cotton thread?

    • @rsislandcrafts
      @rsislandcrafts  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m not an expert so please take my answer at face value and try a couple more searches. But if you thread says it’s 100% cotton then I’d think it’s safe to use in bowl cozies etc. I
      I searched Pima cotton and found that Pima cotton is a luxury cotton that is used in some of the nicer softer sheets. It’s a longer fiber that is very sturdy and tends to last a long time. What I found was mostly about Pima cotton sheets. It sounds like it’s just a sturdier more expensive form of cotton.
      If I’m making something that might go into the microwave I’m going to be extra extra cautious. If I’m not sure of the content then I probably wouldn’t use It. Although, if you have a local quilt shop you could bring a spool of your thread there and ask their opinion.
      Then you can make an educated decision about whether or not you’re comfortable using the Pima thread.

    What is the batting you use? Mine looks way more bulky than yours. It was so fiddly sewing together and topstitching. I'm a house of 1 and so I'm set - not sure if I'll make more. I might try only 1 layer of batting. It's super cute though!

    • @rsislandcrafts
      @rsislandcrafts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think if my batting were thicker I’d go with just one layer. Since it’s just for ice cream the batting doesn’t need to protect your hands from a hot pan. Just cold ice cream. I generally use Warm & White and Warm & Natural. In this video I may have used Quilter’s Dream cotton batting that was given to me from a friend.
