DANG! My boat cost me 6000$CAD (or I guess around 4500$USD?) and it's a very random company (Astroglass 154v, which is now Astro), it needs much love in the gauge department and carpet, plus the motor was "Meh". It was a 140 v4 Evinrude 1988, but the boat's limit was 100hp... luckily floor and transom is still good. I gotta get rid of it though as I need to pay my house loan and recently lost my mother, it s***s cause I haven't went fishing in the last 10 years by myself and its my therapy. Your entire setup (if we forget the USD to CAD conversion) cost as much as what the motor alone would cost around here... by itself ! that's crazy to think how cheap the USA bass boat market is compared to the Canada.
You didn’t spend too much. Look at what you get to look at after you did it yourself. That boat is nice and better than these new bass boats that’s anywhere from $25000-as much as you wanna spend. Looks great man. Hell if you’re gonna only sell it for that I’d take it
You’ve got a great boat, that you know inside and out now, and you learned a lot along the way. You didn’t put too much money into it. Compare that to going out and buying a new Basscat. 👍🏻👍🏻
I just rebuilt a fish and ski boat myself. All in I’ve put $4k, however, I rebuilt the motor and it has everything a new $40k boat does. So I’m pretty dang happy and your videos helped me along the way during my rebuild.
Still think you’d make a great industrial arts teacher. Your willingness to jump right in and figure stuff out is something most don’t have and would make a great mentor for younger kids. Great job and totally worth it just for the knowledge. Now you can teach others. Keep up on the videos.
Congratulations on seeing a tough project through to a successful end, especially a project that you have never done before. You didn’t spend too much and you saved money on purchases as much and you could and put in hours and hours of hard work. You should be proud of yourself and thankful for such a good helper. You may want to wait a while before taking on another project. I believe she would really appreciate you spending more time with her.
Get rid of the bullet hole rims and put some really nice looking rims on the trailer , a couple of Humminbird Helix 9s, and then take that sweet girl for a ride out on the water and get her hooked on bass fishing. Show her that you love her and want to include her in your life and she will be with you for the long haul. You did a great job on this boat and you have a nice rig that most guys will envy. Five stars on a kick ass project
I have owned an 04 XR6 on my Ranger bass boat. One tip is when it is colder out after priming the gas hold the key in during the starting process and it'll start up quickly.
I know eventually I’ll have to do a total restore on mine. I know that with a possible floor replacement in one spot, wet sand, carpet or SeaDek, and even an upgraded (newer to me) motor, I would still come out better than buying new. Mine is an ‘89 and luckily she’s still in great shape. Everything works-troller, current motor, pumps, etc… I could use some updated electronics.
You're way ahead of my 99 javelin that I bought new off the showroom floor. Been wanting to replace it for 20 years but life keeps getting in the way. Your project gives me hope
You did a great job on the boat for that price. I've redone my last 2 boats and saved myself a lot of money. You have a really great boat for the price and you did the work for yourself. Great job and keep up the great work.
You have a great boat!! Really enjoyed this series. I really like that boat and you did a great job on it. I have a 91 Ranger 354V and after watching your video I have started to do some upgrades and repairs to it. Continue doing what you're doing!!! Consider adding a deck extension to add more storage. I know I would watch that series! That is my next addition to my boat.
I have a 1997 champion 191 elite. I have watched you build this basscat from start to finish. It actually inspired me to do some repairs on my own boat that I normally would have had someone else do for me. I don't think you spent too much at all. I'm into mine over 12k with buying it and then repairs. Run it,fish it, and enjoy it!
Awesome dude. Thats way cheaper than i thought. Your dedication is beyond reproach. If more Americans had your dedication and passion we would be in a much better place as a country. keep up the awesome work bro
You did very well! Got your self a great boat without spending a fortune. Now I have to go back and see the last video of your first tournament! Enjoy that Bass Cat.
You won’t lose money on the project imo. And I look at boats in WI on marketplace every day. Really hope you do another one, Stratos boats are kinda sleepers. Very fast boats
Honestly not that bad bro. I’ve gotta 1997 RayCraft 186DC (Splashed Champion hull). I paid $5K. The 200HP Mercury blew up on the 3rd trip out. I found a 01 XR6 for $2800. Prolly got $2-3K in electronics. If you dump money into a boat you love, it doesn’t hurt as bad because you love the boat.
Dude you have a Bad Ass boat, you should be very proud of all the hours and hard work you put in the boat, the results is great and you can still improve it. You should keep the boat!!
I’d say you did really good. I wanted a project boat but got a really good deal on a one owner FishHawk with a 125HP MERC. I rigged it with all new Humminbird electronics and a new Minnkota Terrova trolling motor. I’m about $14k into my boat. But brand new they sell for $40k+
I just saw a 1996 Pantera Classic for sale for like $17k or something on FB marketplace. Whether it sells for that is another thing, but those bass kitties hold some value.
You are doing a good job on the video editing and overall setup. I am guessing the channel will continue to grow. I watched the video yesterday and don’t remember if you commented on the gel coat and wrap. What did you decide? Is it going to be a wrap (hot pink) after the season? I just bought my first GoPro with a Yolotek Navpro and a DJI Mini 3 pro. Unfortunately, I have not used them on my Walleye/ salmon boat yet. Insane summer so far with other projects.
Cost-wise I don't think you're upside-down on that boat. However, being rated for a 200hp it would be hard to sell. That said, that XR6 is probably closer to 175hp than it is 150hp so you got that going for you. It was either Mercury's answer to the Fast Strike or the other way around...can't remember but it's a HOT 150.
Yeah been trying to convince the wife to let me do some work to my 88 bumble bee. It is only 15.6ft long and has a 70 evinrude on it. I am lucky though as the floor is solid as well as the transom. Motor run good for an 88 2 stroke. Sometimes I have to convince it that it should run but once it gets going it seems to run good. Right now though it gets me on the water and i was able to repair the trolling motor. It does not leak at all so overall it's a decent boat that I don't have a payment for.😃 My wife says it runs and floats so what more do you want?. LOL Great job on the boat. I think you may be underestimationg the value of it especially with a new motor and floor.
Not sure where you live, but the used boat market is actually pretty good in the upper Midwest. I've heard people getting almost double what the boat is actually worth, just food for thought.
My first bass boat was a brand new 1990 Bas cat Margay with a 115 Evinrude, I was only 19 and the bank only financed 9900 dollars cause I barely had any credit or I would have got a bigger boat with at least a 150, ive owned Skeeter, Ranger , and my final boat 20ft Bullet with 225 Mercury sports XS with sportmaster lower unit 84mph Bullets are very light That boat reminds me of my first boat just bigger
Dude. I purposely bought a junker as my first boat. So i can learn how every is put together and how it works and how to fix it. Also, I need to worry less as i learn how to put it in the water and how to operate it. Everything i put in it transfers to the next boat. Few things i made sure of first. It was aluminum brand name and motor was solid. Will do a quick video on the water next time i manage to escape the jungle
@sharonbraselton4302 so it looks like this is of interest to people. When i looked at the boat and rv market, i learned one thing. You must be either incredibly lucky or wealthy in order to own one and have no problem with it even if you buy it brand new. So unless i have all day every day to spend on my boat, it is absolutely cheaper to rent or charter one instead of buying a new or newish boat. Everything else, you must assume that no matter how well you check, one of the big items will need to be fixed. Also, all electronics on the cheaper older boat will be old crap you are not going to truly enjoy. So far, i am lucky with the engine overall. The hull seems ok with one leaky engine mount bolt. Blew out hub on the trailer, so I will learn to fix it now. And all this cost me so far 2600$. Tell me, what is the tax on a brand-name aluminum 17' boat with 70hp motor and no fishing electronics? I am in the process of adding new wiring and gages, all ordered with proper marine grade parts at $300. $1000 on a nice 10" sonar w navigation. 200$ so i can connect sensors to the sonar unit or digital display. Later i will decide on kicker motor or electric trolling. But if i get in trouble 1. I will know how to get out of it 2. It will be my fault 3. It will not cost me anything i can not afford to just lose. And i do not look like a moron with an expensive boat who doesn't know how to back it up to the launch.
I can see doing it fast and spending the money for the TH-cam thing, but for your own personal boat you would have been a lot better off slowly catching really good deals during the off season when people get tired of their stuff and put it on sale places like fb marketplace. It all comes with experience though so no threat just keep up the good work and you will learn the when's, what's, and how's to look for as you go!
Hi, Boats are expensive and maintaining them afloat is expensive too. Considering the fact that the original engine was not reliable and you had to buy another one, I don't think you spent too much. You did a full refit, everything is new and clean onboard. It's almost a new boat. Of course she's not petfect, but will you find the "perfect" boat someday? Do you think this "perfect" boat even exists? I have an old boat myself. She's not perfect either. I wish she has more seats, more lockers, a larger cockpit, an electric motor for the anchor, a head and why not a nuclear powered engine 😉 But someone told me someday the best boat is the one we own, the one we use and the one we can afford. I think that's true. Enjoy your boat, boating and fishing. But if you don't know how to spend the long and dull winter days,, feel free to restore another boat, your followers will love watching you working on this new project!
You definitely could probably get more than 7k out of it. Or if you plan on giving it away, I'm in need of a boat and would love it!!! I'm a retired Army vet that cannot afford right now to purchase a boat, but would love to own one.
$6700 is a decent price that your into it for and if you were to sell it you would probably get your money back maybe make a few hundred. Good restore.
I’ll take it if you don’t want it. I’ll trade you a 2000 Mitsubishi GT V6. Naturally it is a project car but well worth the effort it would take. Where are you located? It will start up right now and has a perfect body but it does need a paint job but it’s never been in an accident.
I know it’s a joke but it’s based in truth. Women that complain about how much money their man spends on his hobbies better be paying half the bills bc if he paying all the bills and she’s complaining about him spending his own money on his hobbies. She gotta go
I am like the other guy who thinks that you could get 10k. Have any of these people looked at the price of a new boat. Sure BPS catalog says 47k then you add just the basic normal items and you are over 65k. The price of new bass boats is massively inflated.
great rebuild you did it yourself you learned a lot and you have a great boat for $7,000. Awesome job! Put two quality Garmin graphs on the bow and the cockpit and you are good to go.
What do y’all think? I spent to much? 😅
DANG! My boat cost me 6000$CAD (or I guess around 4500$USD?) and it's a very random company (Astroglass 154v, which is now Astro), it needs much love in the gauge department and carpet, plus the motor was "Meh". Where and how did you find a motor for that price? That was the clincher for not too much.
You’ve got a great boat, that you know inside and out now, and you learned a lot along the way. You didn’t put too much money into it. Compare that to going out and buying a new Basscat. 👍🏻👍🏻

I think $6700.00 is a great price/cost for that boat. Add in all the experience you gained, you're way up in the black for that one.

@sharonbraselton4302 why not? I did and it is fun. Never buy it if you do not have means to fix it, that is true.
@sharonbraselton4302 so it looks like this is of interest to people.

You should take the silver rails off ang get a 9 inch Garmin uhd 93sv
That’s exactly what I want
She's a keeper lol❤❤ good luck to y'all .
$265 for the EV foam is not bad. I spent more than that replacing carpet in my 19ft.
There is always someone falling in love with the boat you would be able to sell for 6000, is on price, not more not less
Well done! Now more fishing videos from the Basscat! 👍👍
Hell, I just put some improvements into my Grady White Adventure 20 and it was over 8 grand. To me that was cheap.
It’s like a old Camaro, it don’t have to be perfect to enjoy it and still have others look at it and appreciate it aswell.
Hi,

I think it’s a steal anyway you look at it, great job.
You can never have enough storage, but nice job! Its not worth what you put into it. Its a boat!
You done a great job on this boat, but you need to give your lady props for helping you! Lol. Can’t wait for next video!
She helped Forsure!
You are the daddy of the year
You definitely could probably get more than 7k out of it. Or if you plan on giving it away, I'm in need of a boat and would love it!!! I'm a retired Army vet that cannot afford right now to purchase a boat, but would love to own one.
Stranglehold Outdoors 👊 👊 👊
Up my way u could definitely get somewhere just under $10k, mainly cause it’s a bass cat
You could sell that for more then 7. It’s a completely restored bass boat with a nice motor on it.
How much did u pay for it to start with.
Nice job on the project! Kudos to the wife to be forsure!
How many hours of labor do you think you put into this project?
To many 😂
Congrats, great build.....
Nice work!
$6700 is a decent price that your into it for and if you were to sell it you would probably get your money back maybe make a few hundred. Good restore.
Awesome job
I’ll take it if you don’t want it. I’ll trade you a 2000 Mitsubishi GT V6. Naturally it is a project car but well worth the effort it would take. Where are you located? It will start up right now and has a perfect body but it does need a paint job but it’s never been in an accident.
If we was into cars maybe 🤔 hahah
Wait till you break out another $1,500 to $ 2,000 for a good sonar gps with maps, wedding bells may become silent.
You should build her a pontoon boat slash party boat
You'd be surprised at used prices, in my area I thin k you could get 7K,
You’re better off buying new and taking care of it. You always have to factor in your time as well.
I need a boat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's AWESOME!!!
Awesome build!!!
Thanks!
You know you can have a backyard wedding? You don't have to have a big wedding.
when I was young and tough my favorite saying was why buy one when you can build it for twice the price....lol
You can sale that boat EZ 10k where I live
Coulda made a bunch more videos if you kept the old motor.
where I'm from thats a 8-10k boat all day
Thats a nice little rig. $7500-10k imo. Depending on electronics.
Love it, that's not a bad price at all. Give it away so I can win it haha
She is a keeper 😅
Great job on the restore. I bet you could get $8,000 as is.
You positively will get 10-12k for that Cat right now.
at least you didnt have to tell her you took out a loan on a 100k boat for 15 years lol.
😅😂
buy pàrker 2320 for $100000
Do you want to sale the basscat
I don’t think you’d have a problem selling it for $7k at all. Might even get more than that.
Yes, but a garage is a terrible thing to waste. It needs a project to have a purpose in life. You did a great job.
That is cheap and you have a nice boat. $3,800 for that motor was a great deal.
You could absolutely get your money back on that boat.

I don’t think you could’ve found one in that condition for that price
Nice boat, but I rather have an offshore fishing vessel
For 6700 for a Basscat is cheap.
I second that.
great rebuild you did it yourself you learned a lot and you have a great boat for $7,000. Awesome job! Put two quality Garmin graphs on the bow and the cockpit and you are good to go.
Dude look what you have you built it
It’s honest work! Hahaha
in todays market I think 7k is more then fair.
If you showed a buyer the build videos, then $7000 is not a bad price for the boat.
It will bring 8000.00 when you get thru
You could tell this guy definitely hasn't spent much time working on boats when he's cringing at spending $600 for seats :-)
That boat is now worth 15k
That's not a lot considering what I've spent and people i know
Sell it in california thats 10 k boat easy.
Awesoe job! I've got one id turn you loose on.
