    I was watching a Japanese minimalist Sibu (also spelled Shibu) and he encourages analyzing why the items we are decluttering did not work out - wrong color, wrong size, wrong shape, wrong material, etc. He also encourages to focus totally on what you absolutely want to keep. For me, every new acquisition is an experiment, no matter how much time and thought and research I have put into it (and sometimes it is just the wrong time in my life for a particular item - I just bought wonderful Indian spices and have realized that I have other urgent projects that preclude learning new recipes. But they are sealed so I am hoping they will keep for a few months).

    Thank you for addressing the inflow vs. just the outflow! So often, we're urged to focus on getting rid of things as a means of feeling better, while if we thought instead of controlling what comes into our closet. More intentionality there means we won't have to declutter as often! Great video. :)

    I’m in a big decluttering at the moment since I am moving this year I want to the least amount of things to move ( also because like you I may have a smaller space😅 than I have today ) . One of my tip is one question « will I buy it today if lost or broken? » I think it really shows if we want to keep it or not.

    Love the idea of decluttering as maintenance. Decision fatigue is real, and the easiest way to minimize it is by making small decluttering choices regularly instead of letting stuff build up and then dealing with it in one go

    I like your point about limiting backstock. Over time, a lot of toiletries will degrade as the preservatives and other ingredients break down, potentially causing eye/skin infections and/or irritation.

    I am constantly decluttering but I've made a goal to reduce my wardrobe by 100 items before September 1st. Within the first 3 weeks, I have rehomed 28 items so I figure my 5 month timeline may be a little excessive but also easily achievable.

    lol funny to notice the different need for back-ups. My backups are more like deodorant, pads, toilet paper, pens. And I don’t compromise on this backups, I don’t consider them clutter; I consider them a necessity

    At the beginning of each season, I evaluate the things I haven’t worn in the season that’s ending. I get rid of the clothes that I didn’t wear and the items I only wore once! And I think about the reasons why I didn’t wear them to help with future purchases. This helps me a lot!

    100% agree with you on the wishlist thing. I can't tell you how many times I've put things in my Amazon wishlist only to go in and delete them later. Another tip for cleaning out clothing if you feel overwhelmed--tell yourself to get rid of one item per week. And if you buy anything, a 1 item comes in, 1 item goes out rule. I'm currently doing this and it is working well, I'm being more critical about some of the clothing I have. I live in an area where we have 4 definitive seasons too so I know I'm donating clothing within the appropriate season.

    I have to say, after finding your channel I’ve been so inspired. I have over the years bought so much stuff I dont need, now I’m sticking with my wishlist. After 3 years of wanting a quality trenchcoat I finally bought one (I have always felt it was too much money to spend on ONE piece). Before I would buy 5-10 cheap tops or dresses that only would be hanging around for short time and then decluttered… Thank you for sharing!

    When it comes to backups I feel like it really depends on which items you buy backups for.
    For example with toothpaste and deodorant I started buying in 6 - packs and it saves me up to 40%!! Ofc it takes up more space but for me it makes sense. Same with basic cleaning supplies and laundry detergent powder packaged in paper. No plastic waste there and trying our best to reduce waste and not “experiment” as much with stuff so the chances of them not getting used and thrown out are way lower since you already know you like version xx of some item :)

  • @greenlandgem
    @greenlandgem 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    I gotta say, I love TruEarth. I'm Canadian but spend a lot of my year in Australia and while you can buy them down there, it tends to be a little more $$, so I usually throw an envelope in my suitcase. Which reminds me, these are GREAT for when you're travelling - no powder or liquid spills if you're away long enough to need to do laundry but not so long that you can justify buying detergent there.
    Also: the water in Perth is SO hard and gross and makes my clothes super crunchy, so I decided to try the fabric softener strips and oh man do they work. I don't need them where I live in Canada, but down there, they are a game-changer. :)

    Yes to me the most important is to not let enter too many items. Most clothes that we donate end up in a landfill. Thinking about it really stops me to buy without a good reflection first. I actually never declutter bags of clothes anymore because I’m more intentional. Also, like you said, a wishlist. I’m planning what I need first and then buy when I’m ready. The worst for me are jeans. I find myself always compromising on the fit thinking it’s good enough and I end up not wearing it and I had to declutter them at one point.

    I've learned this years ago and still practice it. When I bring a new item to my closet I take out an item. For example I bought a beautiful Grey pair of pants for summer from h&m. Removed a pair of white pants that I for some reason don't wear. Keeps me organized. A small bag in laundry keeps give away items together until I take them to resale.

    I will be getting rid of all tops that are black. I used to wear a lot of black but, it is super hot in the summer/spring and while I love being hot I hate being that extra hot that wearing black does to you. i will keep some of my black bottoms as well. What I will be getting rid of will not be replaced with the exception of a t-shirt but,, in a different color. I love the TruEarth laundry strips and they are perfect for traveling too.

  • @blessedforever3325
    @blessedforever3325 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Controlling in flow is still an issue for me. I have started shopping at a pre loved clothing store quite a lot and recently bought a blouse that is pretty and is a good brand and was a great price. But after wearing it twice I’ve had to admit it’s too big. Just too much fabric and not my style. So now it has to be decluttered. So I realize now I have to be just as discerning with my $15 thrift store purchases and not impulse buy. I could try altering this top as I do sew but I’m not really in that head space right now so I’m donating it. Live and learn.

      @lauriejohnson-daley3753 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Minimalism means different things to different people. Minimalism and minimizing is not about reducing or eliminating personality or style. It doesn’t mean keeping/wearing all neutrals or “plain” items, having a sparse or cold feeling home, etc.
      It’s ridding oneself of excess, excess that isn’t used or utilized. It’s about reducing your belongings to what you use, wear, and love.

    I don't understand the need to constantly declutter. I think it fuels the idea that we should get rid of items after a certain time has passed. Of course if something is falling apart throw it out or if you're never wearing something you can donate, but I feel the idea of having to declutter regularly goes against the message of your other videos
