Lufthansa is pretty nice Airlines . I just came back to my hometown from Germany couple days ago , I flied all the way from Frankfurt to Hong Kong by Lufthansa 747-400 , great airlines with a high quality in service.
I'll be flying it next week, Lufthansa as well and I can't wait :) Already had a flight in 747 but that's gonna be firts time in 747-8 ;) and I really do lobe that aircraft!
It's amazing the evolution of the 747 upper deck. Originally just a couple of small rooms behind the cockpit (when the 747 was envisioned as a strategic cargolifter, a competition it ultimately lost to the C-5) they realized it was valuable for "exclusive" 1st class space, and extended it with the 747-300 and 400. But with the 747-8 it's grown again, and is now about as big as the main deck of a 737-300!

Exactly, because the 747-8 is a different class of airplane. This is why it's best for airlines to fly 747-8s as well as the A380, because year round, you'll struggle to fill all of the seats on the A380.

I've fallen in love with this plane, it's by far my favorite airliner I've flown. I've flown this plane in Infinite Flight simulator and it's a 40,000 ft rocket I've gone twice as fast as the A380 at 40,000 ft. I could only max out at 279 knots in the A380 vs 480 something and was still slowly accelerating in the 747-8 it's really very very very very VERY FAST.
The Boeing 747-800 series is a beautiful aircraft. The Airbus A380 is just a big bitch. The Boeing is graceful and massive but not so massive to interfere with her beautiful lines. What a thing of beauty.
Well for Lufthansa the 747-8 is somewhat the substitute for the 380 they use for the months with lower traffic e.g. Frankfurt-Miami. In the high season (winter) they use A380 in the low season (summer) they use the 747-8.
Isn't it coincidental that this video is about a Lufthansa Boeing 747-8 taking off and that at 8:19, there is a Lufthansa Boeing 747-400 in the background XD
I thought your comment was that Beoing should retire the 747 design. Why? It's a proven design with a very long established track record. If the A380 was far superior in performance, that would be one thing. Put really it just has more passengers, and probably too many. 747s are safe as hell, fast, and handle turbulence well. Keep buildng them.
