    I'm from San Jose Ca, today it's better known as part of SILICON Valley. Way back in 1975 when I was 14 my first 100 mile ride was during a charity fund raiser ride for diabetes of which 4 of my family members has passed away from, being in on the saddle for all these years has kept me up and running. This ride was only to be a 24 mile ride, so when I thought I was finished and ready to check out the personal there at the check point told me that all of the check points will be open until 5:00 PM so you can ride as long as you wish, so what the hell I got nothing better to do so why not, towards the end of the day it turned out to be a race with myself and another rider to see who can rack up the most miles, each check point was tracking our progress, it was exciting for them because basically the 1st half of the day it was just the norm just punching the riders cards, at the end of the day I racked up 116 miles and the other guy got got 107 miles, from there for many years to follow I was doing 2 to 3 monthly 100 plus mile rides at 15 or 16 I started riding over the Santa Cruz mountains and these rides were 100 plus mile rides, my first Santa Cruz ride WAS NOT A PLANNED RIDE! I was riding through the town of Saratoga, when passing through I saw a sign, Santa Cruz 28 miles this was to the boarder, to the coast it was about 33 miles so I stopped to give it a thought, I then checked my inventory, I got 2 bananas a bag of trail mix a bit of $$$ and one water bottle, this ride also involved about 7,300 feet of climbing round trip, so I thought what the hell, I'm in so off to Santa Cruz I went, OH BOY! This 1st SC ride and it was a BALL BUSTER! Did I BONK! HELL YES! But I pushed through it and got there, only problem though I had to ride over those mountains again! And that I did! From there for many years to follow I was doing this ride 2 to 3 times per month, 2 to 3 times I did a weekend SC back to back ride, meaning I did this ride on Saturday then again on the following Sunday. One day I road up to MT Hamilton which involve roughly 4,000 ft of climbing when I got to the top I was looking at the Santa Cruz mountains that was on the other side of SILICON Valley, I figured what the hell I'm feeling good so off to Santa Cruz I went, this was roughly a 140 mile ride that involved a tad bit over 11,000 ft of climbing and these were the days of friction down tube shifting, 7sp rear end 13/25, up front 41/53t. MY BALLS TO THE WALLS RIDE was a one day ride from San Jose to Yosemite, roughly a 175 mile one way ride, with 102 to105 degree heat to be expected when riding through the valley so to try to avoid some of the heat I was on the road at 3:00 AM, a few friends asked If I wanted to go camping I said sure, you carry my gear AND I'LL MEET YOU THERE! They then asked how are you going to get there, I simply pointed at my bicycle, I then said, when I get there, HAVE TO FOOD READY! Ride on! I'm off to the gym here in Eindhoven Holland, where I am missing the mountains of the Bay Area of SILICON Valley, exercise bike here I come.

    I am still working towards my first 100k. I only started cycling 3 years ago on my 50th birthday and the biggest ride I have done so far is 85k about 2 months ago, and it almost killed me. I'll get there this year for sure.

      Did my first 100k ride at 55…it’s not as bad as you imagine. Pick a ride your familiar with with a built in escape route should you get tired…good luck.

    The madone slr gen7 definitely suprised me with how fast it is..I noticed that my madone holds speeds better than my S-works SL7 tarmac..the red one in the video looks good 👍

    65, riding in the US, upstate New York and Vermont. At this point maybe 100+ 100k rides, every one of them slow AF. Don't over think it, bring lots of real food and just do it.

    I remember every 100k ride I've ever done. 1st attempt was a bit short due to a bonk. Next one was fueled more and a success. Since #2, I've done all my riding fasted including mtulti-day 100km rides. Fast forward 5 years of riding fasted... I'm going to experiment this year with starting all my rides fasted but on longer rides (several hours +) I will be consuming carbs to see if I can go the same distance faster. On-bike carbs will be the only carbs I consume having given them up almost completely 5+ years ago. Riding fasted has allowed me to be bonk-proof which has been awesome. But I am now ready to se if I can maintain my current lifestyle off the bike and get some advantages while *on* it. Cheers!

    100k=62miles is a nice ride..2 hours before i eat oatmeal with 5 bananas & drink 8 ounces of fresh beet juice w ginger.. during the ride I sip on fresh beet juice and stop for strong espresso..halfway thru I eat pastries...after the ride I eat protein, carbs and drink glutamine(a must) for recovery...glutamine helps with lactic acids and pain..the next morning I don't feel the pain & I'm able ride again..

    How can I know 30 gram of carbs on ride to take it? Shall I measure things before start the ride? Iam not a fan of energy gel they run me as river 😔

    • @benjaminlechappers
      @benjaminlechappers  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well on an average a banana has 25g of carbs. 5 jelly babies is 30g then most packed food has the amount of grams on the back.

    I’m TRULY INTERESTED in the RIDE QUALITY of the ALUMINUM WHITE EMONDA! Waiting still on your take on the OVERALL RIDE!
    DOES it BEAT U UP AFTER 100k ride?

      Hi,
      This is the Aluminium Trek Emonda, Palmeres edition.
      No it does not beat me up. It’s a lovely ride I used this bike to ride across Malaysia with no issues whatsoever.
      I’ll do a review video in a few weeks.
