Donna, so far I have been making Kefir and eating Cultured veggies for two weeks and I’m not craving sweets and believe me, I had a sugar addiction. I’ve just received my SCOBY from you and starting to make Kombucha. I’m looking forward to seeing how my body reacts to the wonderful ways it will nourish my body. I’m very excited and love the fact that once I get established with the Cultures and Kefir Grains I can just continue making it every week. I’ve learned so much from you these last few weeks and I can see how thankful you are for your health and how you want to help others and I’m thankful for you!

Have learned so much from you, Donna. Thank you! I have a question about fermented veggies. When wanting to reuse the brine, how long will the brine be active and strong to remake more veggies?

I have a question, first I must share that your awesome I appreciate your sharing your stories and how easy you makes all this . I've tried brewing a few batches of Kombucha and sometimes it turns out lighter than others? It didn't seem right? Does it matter or when it's dark is it not ready to drink? Also does the veggies to make cultured veggies have to be organic? I've tried non organic and it didn't turn out right- does using a starter fail proof cultivating the cultured veggies?

I have a couple of questions regarding kefir: 1) How much did you drink daily when you first began with kefir 2) I have been able to make thick kefir using store bought organic kefir and adding milk and then fermenting for 24 hours. But I do not know if this has all of the health benefits of kefir made from grains. Could you possibly tell me that?

My question is- can i give an almost 1yr old milk kefir? Seems a little dumb, but wanted your input anyway. I already give a a little fermented kraut juice once in awhile. We have been pretty healthy since starting fermenting things, but the milk thing makes me nervous. the rest of us do milk kefir

Hi Donna. I am listening to your podcast since several weeks. The informations you are giving are so informaive for me. I am living in west Africa and run a wellness center. Helping with my knowledge all those people with health issues, I became something like a trusted adviser for them. I live here over 20 years and noticed that the severe worse health among the locals resultes of bad eating habits mainly. I started to bake sour dough bread 1 year ago for my family but it grow to a little business. Originally from Austria/Vienna I am familar with fermented food quite well. Kefir, fermented food and ACV already in my sortiment. Still amazed to learn more from you. Especially Kombucha which is new to me. I want to brew it and offer it here to my family and clients as an additional benefit to there health. The challenge I am facing is, that we dont have glass bottles available easy. Plastic bottles in abundance. I thought I can use 2 liter sprite bottles since they are green in colour and already contained a soda type of beverage. Do you think it is possible to use these soda bottles for kombucha in second fermentation? I am worried about that the fermantion releases some plastic compounds into the kombucha. I aprechiate your answer to my question.

Hi Helen, Glass is alway best with fermented foods. All cultured foods break down plastics and heavy metals so you don't want to be consuming any toxins from the plastics that have been broken down. If you get a good food grade plastic (and it's your only option) you can try it and see how it does. But glass is always best. Especially for making any kombucha or fermented soda (you'll want good sturdy bottles) Hope you kind find a way to get this foods into your life as well as your clients!

Thanks Donna! I love your podcasts. I'm addicted to sugar and I'm having trouble leaving it. Actually I'm insulin resistant. Can I drink Kombucha?

It's really up to you and your body. Just make sure it isnt sweet at all, if you are having severe sugar cravings you may have a candida problem. But if your kombucha is tart you'll do great and it will help with cravings :)

This is sulfur and while it's not harmful it is most likely from something in the water you're using. Try changing your water and using springwater and see if this helps.

+Donna Schwenk thanks Donna....I know there are only trace amounts....I had bought my own scoby and followed the instructions...I had to throw it out in the end as it tasted so much like alcohol to me I didn't want to risk it. I tried masking the taste with juice, fruit, water but it was still really strong.
I made a few different batches in case I was doing it wrong but to no avail.
I wad so disappointed as I do believe it's really good for health
