that's a good option if you go to a locksmith or have a key blank and originator, but this method doesn't require either of those

That's some pretty cool improvised low melting point metal. Obviously we all have some of that around usually in the fifth pocket
I usually just keep mine on some fishing line or in a pinch, glued or crimped on my car wheels.
Could just read the cuts and custom cut it later.
