    Thank you for this video! The one thing I understand is what you meant by preheating the mold to 450 - 475 degrees when using the first method. Do I put the mold in the oven and then put it back int the medicine bottle when it’s heated before pouring the metal? Could you please clarify?

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  ปีที่แล้ว

      If preheated for a better flow, you need to heat the mold. Polypropylene medicine bottles cannot tolerate 450F, so I suggest you use a small aluminum bottle.

    • @andrewbehr5580
      @andrewbehr5580 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@electronicsNmore Thanks. I noticed that you said to preheat the mold, but then it was placed back into the room temp medicine bottle when you poured the metal. Will that work, or will it melt the plastic if I place just the warm silicon mold into the bottle? It's a bit unclear how the warm mold gets placed back into the bottle before pouring the metal.

    We deal with high security locks that have "do not duplicate" on them. One of my co-workers said he could get them copied, you just have to sign some waiver. I always figured you could just cover up the part of the key with silicon, epoxy or even a 3d printed piece of plastic to hide the "do not duplicate" and just make it look like a grip or decoration for the key. if you can get a blank you could also file it yourself. Still cool demo!

    The law you are referring to, actually only applies to licensed locksmiths, and not everyone (California BPC § 6980.54). Its not illegal to copy a "Do not duplicate" key yourself, for example in a unmanned key kiosk or similiar, and therefore, not illegal to also copy it via the methods in the video. Same applies to patent keys, copying a patent key for private use is not illegal, but copying it for someone else or for business use, is illegal.
    HOWEVER, its ALWAYS illegal to use a key you are not allowed to use, regardless of if its a copied key or not. So its not the copying itself that is illegal, but the use of a key that you are not allowed to use. So obviously, if you have copied a key, then returned the original or copy, you are obviously not allowed to use the other key. Also copying a key, even with no intention to use it, like "a cool key to put into a frame", could become a "planning" crime (you planned to do a break-in). Such a crime could however be averted by making the copy in a material that is unsuitable for key, like soft tin or similiar.
    But same applies if the access period, communicated in writing or verbally, has expired. For example, if you paid for a hotel to the 10:00 on a sunday, and the hotel is closed that time, they might ask you to depoist the key in the key depoist when checking out and then they will get the key out of the box on the morning after. TECHNICALLY, you could stay longer, lets say to 16:00 since the hotel is closed, they don't know when you leave.
    BUT thats also illegal. Even if you have the key in your hands, and have not copied it, you are not allowed to use it past 10:00. If the hotel notices somehow you overstayed, usually they will just add a night to the bill and then its out of the world, but the hotel could also police report you, as even if you intend to buy a extra night, it MUST be authorized. You can't buy something without the business approval. (which also means, stealing a drink out of a fridge and then putting money on the desk or in a coin box is also illegal unless the company specifically made provisions for unmanned sale (like self-service checkout, vending machine, or a sign "Take a drink, pay for it by putting money in coin box on desk", or in case with hotel, they provided a means that "If you want to stay longer on a closed day, call XXX-XXXXX before 10:00 and request to order a extra night").
    So no, its not illegal to, as a private person, copy a key, regardless of if its Do not copy, or high security or restricted, BUT you may not use the copy unless you are authorized to access the space in question.

    Tin is rather soft and flexible. Wouldn't pewter be better? The reason the alloy exists is that it is a lot harder wearing than pure tin.

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great idea. Yes, Pewter is 4-5x harder than tin alone. The tin key is just fine, but you need to store it properly so you don't damage it. Thanks for watching!

      @@electronicsNmore That's true, it's illegal to copy a key that isn't your own. However, there are no specific laws stating that DND keys are illegal to copy. It just adds a bit more protection because people think they cant do it. The only circumstances you cant copy a DND key is if its part of a master key system, part of a patented/restricted key control system, or if the key technician suspects wrongful intent.

      You can do that for the typical pin tumbler key, but for a higher security key, you won't be filing it. :-) Thanks for watching!

    Would be a much better video if you actually narrated during the process. I don't understand why people think quiet non-verbal instruction videos are better than narrated. You could have explained a lot of what your thinking process was while you were going along (over dubbed the narration after trimming the video). You could have explained some things like... 1) - How did you calculate the amount of liquid latex to use to get the exact fill of your mold? 2) - Have you ever tried using a release (oil or talc) to line the mold to make the latex remove easier so you don't have to destroy the mold to get it out? 3) - What type of metal ingot did you use? etc... Seems especially uncomfortable every time you point to something like we're supposed to be noticing something specific... but no narration to actually explain. There's tons of similar videos out there where the creators actually talk about what their showing. Good luck with your channel. Just something to consider. I personally am turned off by non-verbal instruction videos, so I won't be subscribing.

      I guess you haven't watched too many of my videos. 98% of them are extremely well explained. I'm well known for how well my videos are explained and easy to follow. There are countless videos on YT that get MILLIONS of views without speaking, so once in a while I like to take a break and make one. There was no calculation. I measured the amount by eye, and threw away the excess. You don't use oil with the supplies I used. In the video I said I used Tin. Thanks for watching
