This is the same show where children gets lynched just for being kaijin. I don't find it too out of left field for Aoi to be teaching them self defense. Plus, she only took that girl with her because the girl was already protesting by herself. She was going to do that with or without Aoi. Aoi just made it so she's not alone. Aoi herself is also just a kid. She's just been forced to grow up and become a fighter due to the cruel and unjust society that she, and countless other children live in. A world where Aoi's best friend was killed for no reason. A world where she herself was almost killed by the government. A world where no children have the luxury of being a child. I agree that it's a provocative ending, but that's quite literally what the entire show has been about. It's by design. Black Sun is a very staunchly political show and its part of its messaging. Telling the youth to fight for a better world, and by force if necessary.
Its an amazing show with the boldest ending in a piece content of media. That ending is not that hard to digest coz they're not "terrorist", they're resistance and they know their country is fxxked up and that's the only way to settled it.
If the human and Kaijin role were reversed, I would've liked it better. Like "dude I can turn into a humanoid monster and I'm probably way stronger then a normal human". They did the discrimination way better in the original when the humans captured the whale kaijin and started treated him badly. It showed that "No matter what side you're on. Both sides can do evil when given a chance".
I really hope that if they make a S2, they do a literal RX, a sequel more lighthearted and positive with traditional heroic characters dealing with all the trash without losing their morals (and they could easily divide RX, BioRider and Roborider in 3 separate Riders)
The show's plot has as many holes as a block of Swiss cheese. As the direction went to political drama so much they neglect so many plot point just to preach. such as: the belt, why only 2 belt for black sun and shadow moon? why they can only henshin in modern time while they has the belt/driver from the start? as far as I know, in the OG KR Black, the belt holds the century king stone, and that's what makes them able to henshin into rider form, and that's why Shadow Moon have to kill Black Sun, not only because he betrayed Gorgom (in gorgom's mind) ut also to make Shadow Moon into the new Century King (and there's a reason for the name, the king reigned for 100 years and then changed the body to the new century king). and if the century king is the first 'mutant' and so many have to be 'produced' in the lab, why there are so many civilian mutant now? and why the people don't care enough to ask where these mutants came from?
First, it's implied that their 'kamen rider' form is simply the next evolutionary path kaijins can achieve if they are deemed eligible to be turned into the century king (as proven by Aoi, she doesn't have the stones, but can still gain the belt anyway, because she's an eligible candidate to become century king). As shown in the last episode, Kotaro's century king's form is also very different than the previous one, implying that it's basically an evolutionary path. Second, it's implied (and partially shown, again with Aoi's parents and herself) that Gorgom has been continuing making more and more kaijins covertly under the protection and order from the prime minister to sell to the highest bidders around the world. They either kidnap people who sought to unveil the secret and turn them into kaijin, or simply kidnapping kids for the sake of producing certain strains to sell. And it's been an ongoing practice for a couple of decades, with some managing to free themselves from Gorgom one way or another. Not to mention that the children of a kaijins pair will also be kaijins. Like most hot gossips, give it time to shimmer down, and when news report and gossip channels started running out of convincing evidence, public's interest will also die down with time. With no interest, further investigation will also start to dwindle, not to mention the government probably will try to cover it up as well. Take Covid for a real-world example for instance; it hasn't even been a decade, yet people has started treating it like commonplace sickness nowadays.
