I'm excited for the 2 speed. I'm going to hold off on getting one though. I have a feeling long term use will be the issue. I just hope it pushes Axial to do an SCX-24 II with a 2 speed and better electronics (mainly the servo).
I'll raise you some robust metal Gears like in axial .. plastic ones in this are crapping out already . This seems not bad otherwise . But Suri a small deck wouldn't go astray . ATM it looks like some kinda scuttling crab or spider 🕷️☠️

That looks and performs amazing compared to the other stock 1/24 scales thanks so much for making my day keep doing what you are doing.
I'm glad you're enjoying it! The two right DIP switches on the TX can be used to set the drag brake from OFF/50%/75%/100%. It's super useful. In 100%, the brake is SUPER aggressive. Too much, really. I find that 50% helps totally stop the truck in low gear and slow it just enough in high, so that's what I typically use.

I'm VERY curious about the internals. Trans gears, portal gears, CVDs, diff/lockers and just a good breakdown would be killer to see! Man if you lower it down, push that rear axle back a few mm's and add tires and a bit of weight this rig will perform I bet!
I totally agree! Just a couple adjustments and it’ll be a solid performer for sure. I’m gonna try to pull it apart a bit soon!
@@2fmrc The biggest issue I can see no, other than it being new with no aftermarket support, is the "unibody" style chassis. It appears that the chassis is one molded piece with integrated shock hoops, etc. And from what I understand from another video on an FMS, they use a more proprietary lower shock mount and link mounting system. But, I could be wrong since I haven't examined one in person yet. I like a lot of what I see, but might have been nice if FMS had modeled their chassis more on the Axial twin beam design, but with their upgraded components like better servo, two speed, etc. That would have opened up the possibility of using many parts already available for the SCX. Curious about the diff and portal gears as well. Assuming they're plastic?
@@michaelc3416 All gears are plastic, unfortunately. I am gonna wait for a while and see what spare/upgrade parts will be avaliable before I place my purchase order.

I had been thinking seriously about it yesterday, thinking, hell, I can add some weight down low, just run it as is for the most part, and accept it for what it is even if it is "different", then see what parts become available. Thinking that last night, I was about ready to drop the hammer on one when I watched Matt's latest video and saw the issue with the gears. I had already been thinking that the plastic portal and diff gears could be an issue, but was sorta hoping for the best I guess.... Until I saw that his had failed very quickly and with no real abuse. So, in light of that development, I took this off the back burner, and even off the stove. It looks like a really interesting truck to me so I'll keep an eye on what if anything comes of them, but for now, the FMX isn't on my list of "the next truck to get" for the foreseeable future... Now just to decide if I want to build another SCX based vehicle, or do something else in 1/10th... At least with the big names and established brands, stock replacement parts are available pretty much everywhere.

Dude, I got back into RC with the SCX24's then moved to 1/10 crawlers. Got the FMS Glacier 1/18 and really loved the hard body. That thing is cool as ice and will get one myself. Lengthen the wheelbase, a lil bit of weight and I bet with a bit of mods it will be a slayer. Super impressed. And 2 speed to boot. Gonna be watching for it to hit the market and you to modify. It's real close to being a game changer.

This IS the best 1/18 on the market now! I can't wait to get mine and see how it dwarfs my 1/24 proline powerwagon. I never thought I'd buy a 1/18 but it just checks so many boxes. I'm just going to call it a FMS18 powerwagon though. Maybe it will catch on...lol

There is a 3D printed setup for the Scx24 but I never ran it just because it was more built for a stock rig I believe. A factory dig would be awesome!

Saw this video pop up in my notifications while I was working so I just listened to it with my earpiece. What struck me is how quiet the ESC is. I hate the loud whining noise the other FMS rigs make. Definitely a bonus.

I hear ya about the hotness outside, I’m literally sitting in front of an AC watching the video because it’s 103 right now lol. It looks like a cool truck I feel like there could be some awesome modifications for it. That is kind of odd that they’re 1.3 tires, they remind me of old tractor tires being so skinny like that. I think the selling point for me on that is the two speed, that’s pretty rad.

Knew we could count on you to get right to the point with this one Matt . All I could find elsewhere were folks milking it for extra videos and only unboxing it but not running it . Knew that wouldn't be the case here ! So much potential , I just fear it'll have the same lack of aftermarket support as the rest of the FMS lineup where some fairly universal stuff can be made to work but more model specific stuff gets neglected, for example , I'd be surprised if there are ever any gearing , overdrive, or transmission options in general or even portal gear upgrades , metal axle options or brass portal covers etc . I hope I'm wrong though because I think you're 100% correct that this should light a fire under axial to give us something new to look forward to!
It's nothing to light a fire under axial. They probably see it for what it is, toy grade.

Little brass brake rotors to adapt 1.0 wheels would be perfect. Adds weight and scale points.
Yeah I drilled a set for the scx24 out and made them work in my mods vid.
My son and I have the fms k10, atlas and hilux and mainly use them at the beach where we dig trails/make hills and such. Those trucks are surprisingly good on sand. But this thing with the 2 speed should be awesome because there have definitely been times we wanted more wheel speed. I already ordered one. The first thing that will go is the stock rear rack...I hope to make a wooden flat bed.
Heck yeah! Yeah I built an Scx24 with the atlas 6x6 power wagon body and made a bed for it. It would be a perfect fit on this also. May have to build another lol

Yeah first thing I did, peeled that clear plastic out for the windshield, and second The front bumper out of here yeah looks tough without it, I was thinking making a little smaller one like it out of wood
It looks good, and your review is as always honest. That being said I'm not buying anything based on the initial 20 reviews again. Good for you being added to that list though..... SBG, Harley, Exo, CCRC, RC Review, Rc Girl, RC Driver, that east coast dude, etc etc. We can't rely on reviews from anyone who get the latest release dropped on their doorstep because they won't get the next one if they shit on it.
It actually paid to not be on the list this time around. By me buying mine from amazon I received it early enough I was able to drop a video on it before the people who received it early lol. They couldn’t say anything about it because it wasn’t a freebie and I wasn’t under any agreement!

About like crossing parts with the atlas 6x6 I think. Wheels will work but gotta be a certain wheel that can fit the larger wheel nut & clear the portal. I don’t actually have an easy solution yet but haven’t tried a ton of my wheels. Changing hex to widen or add weight is gonna be a pain also because of the axle design. Links will be kinda odd due to how they mount also. Driveshafts may work but haven’t pulled them yet to see. Haven’t touched the motor or anything yet but I honestly probably won’t change my motor until something happens to it. It runs really well. I did stretch the 1.0 tires on to the wheels so that could be an option 😆

Very tricky thing here... Looks to be a potentially interesting truck. But for long term success, it will require durability, and perhaps, just as importantly, strong aftermarket support. The SCX24 will be hard to beat in the latter. And that enormous aftermarket is what makes the SCX so interesting to most. I mean, who doesn't replace at least half of theirs? Just completed my first 24th scale, and about the only stock components left is the body, frame rails, axles, and transmission. Even still, I must say that the FCX24 (Do wish they had been a bit more original with the name) does look very intriguing! The two speed got me! It's one of those things you don't think you need. And you're right, you don't really "need" it. BUT! Love it in my TRX, and just received one to put in my Bomber very soon. Came THIS close to ordering one of these right after watching this video... Looking forward to seeing what you do with this one, and what you learn about them as you take the deep dive.
Yeah it’s gonna need some support from the aftermarket and hopefully it happens. The scx24 had basically no support for the first yr or two but once it hit man it went nuts. Hopefully we can get that type of support for this thing. It’ll need to come a bit quicker though to keep up. Not sure if it’ll happen or not. I feel like a lot of the companies who jumped on board with the scx24 really just did it because not many others were and they seen the $ signs there lol. Not sure if they’ll jump on this one or not since the scx24 has already been so successful for them.
@@2fmrc Yep. The aftermarket will follow demand, so it just depends on the popularity of the platform. It goes without saying, the SCX24 is tremendously popular and for me spawned my interest in the smaller scale RC segment. And now, this looks tempting as well. Your video definitely tempted me. Just trying to decide if I want to take the gamble or not. I'm not typically an early adopter type, and with my RC stuff like to stick to the bigger players, if for no other reason than for after purchase parts support. And I have zero knowledge of FMS... Hope to see more on this rig on your channel soon. Will stay tuned as I debate...

What steering servo fits as an upgrade or is it same as axial scx24 size?
For the people who like to go fast this might be a good option instead of tearing apart a element for the axles and what not. looks like it has some potential.

I love it! I'm gonna buy the yellow one! From what I've seen in this video, I believe that if you put a Lizard in it and keep the motor it will do just fine. What do you think? Besides the two speed mode, that motor seems smoth and powerfull... thanks from Portugal.
I totally agree. It’s pretty dang good as is. No issues with the motor. A little more control out of an upgraded esc and it’s golden!

It just looks so goofy to me.
It looks like they took an 1/18 scale & shortened the wheelbase to match an SCX24, it looks out of proportion to me. The tractor tires makes it look like a monster truck wantabe. I do like the power wagon body. It did seem to crawl half way decent for a RTR. My other concern would be parts support. If I brake one of my SCX24’s I can get parts at my LHS or other US sources. I’m going to guess if parts do become available they will have to come from china & we all know how long that takes. All we can really hope for out of this release is that it will push Axial to come out with a better SCX24 instead of just throwing bodies at the platform.

The reverse irks me. Is there a way I'm not seeing that would make it work without having to push the trigger twice?
I would like more steering angle on the SCX trucks. I bought a more powerful emax servo and steering links for the S10 which work much better but still not happy with the steering angles. Would that be the servo or the horn I need to look into?
Yes you can switch the tiny little switch marked 1 in the red area on the transmitter to the up position. That puts the truck into forward/reverse mode instead of forward/brake/reverse. I’m going to be uploading a video today or tomorrow on settings for this truck and I’m including that because I’ve been asked a lot! Hope it helps!

I have a stripped portal gear too right gear. Ran it in low around the floor for about 5 minutes shifted once but right back to low. The highest thing I climbed was a lamp base 2 inches high and it was beveled. I hope I can find another gear even if another plastic one. Axial has no reason to step up on FMS account. FMS killed the FCX power wagon at the design table.

@@2fmrc If they can make it better it would be one of the best toy grade RCs out there. If they don't support it soon it will not even be that. Only when we see one that is not all plastic, actually exists on their own web site, and has support then maybe FMS themselves would call this hobby grade and we might agree.

I lowered the CG and have what I think is a nicer looking height by taking the shock apart and replacing the springs with 1 stock scx spring cut in half and each put over just the exposed piston (doesn't fit over the casing) for the back and the same but about 3/4 length scx black springs in the front. For stock FCX with the roll cage but no spare tire attached. Nothing new or unique in concept I just had no springs that would fit.

@@2fmrc I'm new to this. A month ago I never had a hobby grade car. I bought a $70 EZGAR. and broke a shock day one. In looking up replacement shocks (I got oil filled and was in wow of the difference it made to that cheap thing) and in the searching for those shocks on Amazon ran across these mini crawlers. Today I have a Devastator, a s10, a Gladiator, this Power Wagon, 2 nice sets of brass wheels (one set fits this FCX nice because they came drilled big enough to use nuts that have a bushing). Installed (on the S10) I have brass wheel weights, aluminum links and transmission mount, long metal shocks with lighter springs than any in the set of three that came with it, and the Komoto stinger power system . The Gladiator has all those upgrades less the upgraded motor. Uninstalled I have two very small receivers because the stinger left no room for the stock receiver. On order I have a Radiolink RC6GS V3 and a Spektrom S155 G2 charger. All in one month. The spending month. Now the tuning months come. Loving this. I'm 64.

@@2fmrc I'm in Portland Oregon. I will need help hooking up my combo of mini komoto and the esc and receiver. I have the motor working with Lizard esc bypassing the stock esc/receiver it's too bulky. But no point until the radio gets here on Friday. I have a RadioLink R4FGM v1.0 Receiver I want to use. It's a tiny 4 channel thing that will fit anywhere. Again for the S10. I also have a R7FG v1.4 that won't fit but might fit the Gladiator. Both need a better radio. Does it sound like I am making a mess of things or making some bad decisions?

I’m gonna take a deeper dive in to that. Maybe driveshafts and wheels/tires but will require a little work. Sort of like the atlas 6x6 was. That’s what I’ve noticed so far anyway.

That has 2 speed great for steep power climbs without the use expensive brushless systems(Furitek got it right this time ha ha) Furitek nice but speaking RTR folks or in budget.

Slammed the truck today and extended it. So much better! Haven’t did much with the body yet. The mounting system is a bit of a pain for that.

I wish someone would do a 'first-time set-up' video!! It REALLY shouldn't be needed for what basically should be a simple 2-channel car, but as many other things today, this thing is WAYYYY over-complicated! I can't get past a steady red blinking LED on my receiver, and at the same time, NO response from either throttle or steering. No indication in the instructions as to what this means or how to fix it either. Even if a 'help line' was available, I'm sure it would all be in Chinese. The videos I've seen of it running look pretty good, but my FCX24 only blinks. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!
Try rebinding the controller to the truck. Turn everything off. Hold the bind button on the remote and turn it on. It should flash then Release bind. Turn on the truck and give it a couple seconds. Should bind up. Hopefully that’s the issue!

I am very disappointed with FMS. I watched reviews like this for the FCX24 and loved it so I ordered one off Amazon and when I got it I found the instructions told me nothing but how to assemble the roll cage for the back and the controllers are not the same as the ones you all show in these reviews but a cheaper set. When I got it charged I turned it on and all that happened was a red light came on and nothing else. There is no point in sending it back as I will only get another one the same from them so I'll just cut my losses and let it collect dust on the shelf and dream of what could have been.
Yeah there was a huge ordeal with the transmitters getting switched. About 6 months ago. With it coming from amazon I definitely wouldn’t hesitate to send it back. They make it super easy and no sense in keeping a junk truck. All of the trucks are now shipping with what they call the v2 transmitter so it sounds like you got one that’s been sitting for a good while. I’d definitely be getting my money back or a new truck.
