It's the plastic gears in the portal boxes that are failing. The slot on the gears were the drive pin inserts strip out. The plastic used in this spot is to soft. Hopefully FMS comes out with metal gears for the portal axles.

Many of the crawler vids you bring out inspire me to mod my current crawlers. I like the idea of a tough truck project. Nice review here mate, you're doing good work. I'm lol at your pointing stick.
I haven't bought any "FMS" yet (even if they are superb, but the price is a little too expensive for me), I only have axial in 1/24 but I may be fine letting myself try if optional coin sellers follow. In any case, this little crawler is really classy. Thank you for your test and review.
What's really cool is that you can buy the portal axles for $16 a peice and also the gearbox for also $16 and you can retro fit them into a scx24! I did on my deadbolt makes it epic! For a cheap price
Thanks, great review. I'm glad it seems as good as I was hoping it would be. Got one on the way, after recently getting a Smasher V2. Which I think is also great. Nice one. 👍
There's a pretty big buzz about this truck. Looking forward to trying to get my hands on one. I really like the Idea of 2 speed gearbox. It's a game changer in the 24th scale world for sure. 👍🏼
That thing that you said was a Snorkel Tom it’s actually the Exhaust. That’s how those old Power Wagons were built back then they went with the Tractor look and the tractor type of Exhaust that sticks up also you can Buy Tractor wheels too for a Bigger Power Wagons. I believe Dodge is the maker of them!
It kinda looks like a 1/18 scale with a short wheelbase. Would be nice to see a head to head comparison video with an SCX24. Keep up the great content Tomley.
Looks really nice, but pretty top heavy. Not sure I would have gone with portals AND 2-speed. I think portals are great in terms of authenticity and for really slow crawling. In that case I would have wished for a Unimog body. I will probably wait until that is available. And the 2-speed would have been nice with a lower profile truck that you can either crawl slowly or run at higher speeds e.g. in sandy conditions (where the SCX is kind of slow and / or burns the motor). Design wise I still like the Deadbolt best of all 1/24 crawlers, but that is only my personal preference, or maybe my old Losi micro crawler based custom Unimog - that looks even better, but is 1/36 scale!
Mine showed up last night. Hopefully I can take it out for a drive to see how it is out of the box. One thing that was surprising to we was how heavy it was. It is not a light weight.

The Panda Hobby has portals, but I'm not a fan of how it runs. I uploaded a video of that, the FMS Atlas 6x6 and the Gladiator crawling in my yard at night, I think it's a 10 minute video. I was happiest with the Atlas. I put brass weights on the Atlas. They were meant for the SCX24. Paid like $10 for them.
Great vid, as always! Wonderful to see a 1/24th with gear box, as well as portals! Some metal parts upgrade, but overall, great platform to start with! Since we're on the subject, what's your overall preference on the scale of the rc? Like, do you have a preference, overall, or do you use each for certain things? I like the 1/16 so far, it seems to be a great in-between that allows for big and smaller areas. I know price point is exponentially higher when you go bigger than 1/16, as my 1/8 scale monster truck costs what a fleet of 1/16 do!! Thank you for your vids!
