- This is a short video discussing some gardening challenges I'm facing this winter, specifically I'll be explaining how I shield my fruit trees and my raised bed from freezing rain.

Wow blooms already. My Sam Houston peach, Florida King, Methley plum & Santa Rosa plum have all not bloomed yet here in zone 9b. I'm ordering a Prince so next year I'll have early blooms too. Our fairly short distance apart offers such a different variety of climate, it's hard to decide if I want more zone 10 plants or zone 8 ones. Our Universities are overpaid to not offer more footage of their products performing.
Yep unfortunately, weve had a really warm december besides that one deep freeze week. The Tex Princes and Royal Zest trees bloomed the earliest, but we'll have to see how damaged they are when the ice melts, some commentators on reddit have consoled me saying most of the blossoms will be okay (which I doubt)
Hope all has gone well for you. It has been a tough 3 years for Central Texas. Wewere fortunate to be just far enough south to miss the ice. And don't worry, the weeds will come through the weather just fine. All my weeds seem to have made it with the cold weather even though my carrots and brassica's died.
Yes, my weeds are loving the nitrogen I put down for the grass. 3 winter storms in a row, hoping for a warmer winter in 24 but I’m keeping the generator on standby
Glad your strawberries have made it so far. The peach blossoms can take a little more cold than you think. If they got pollinated by the bees, they can take down to about 28 or 29 before they get much damage. I think 26 is the temperature that you have a total crop failure. The ones that have not opened up yet should be fine. Good luck, yall are being hit pretty hard. Here in SE Texas we are still in the 40's.
Thats encouraging, I had a peach tree that yielded nearly 50 peaches after the historic feb 2021 winter storm, but that tree hadn't bloomed by the time the storm came, either way, im sure the trees will make it even if they dont produce fruit this year
Do you have link to the frost blankets you used? They look nicer and thicker than mine. I never know if I’m protecting my beds and plants enough.

you can find them at most hardware stores, I like them because theyre breathable and very light, giving them a wider range of use for veg/fruit tree frost protection
