Yes fine powder of Al oxide and Al oxide is called thermite... I don't knw exact reason why it's called thermite but bcz thermit mean heat and this power create huge heat so may be this is called thermite

Yes It is similar to casting but here hear is producer by chemical mixture inside join itself so we can not call it casting. In casting melt metal taken from outside and just poured
