That's quite possibly the most chilling line of any horror movie.
The Strangers was a sleeper hit at the box office grossing $82.4 million on a $9 million budget. Despite most critics not liking the movie, it’s become a cult classic with horror fans. A sequel was announced in 2007 but due to a troubled development period it didn’t begin filming until 2017. It was finally released in 2018 as The Strangers: Prey at Night. You’ll enjoy that one too! It has a completely different vibe!

@@justinrichards7822Yep it came out yesterday! It’s the first of a new trilogy. Ch 2 will be out sometime this fall & Ch 3 possibly early 2025. They were filmed as one movie with one script & then split into 3 parts. Also Prey at Night is soooo underrated.
@EvanRC91 I just watched the trailer.. hhmmmmm.. looks like they're using some of the same gimmicks and shots, like a reboot. Could go either way, man.
They just played with them all night just to turn the "wait until daylight, you'll be safe" troupe on its head.

I would say that this movie has to be one of the most terrifying horror movies I’ve ever seen (defenetly the scariest US horror movie in my opinion). The atmosphere alone is just perfection and the villains and the fact that it’s inspired by true events is crazy.
That first knock scared the shit outta me 😂, but watching this at night alone is another level cause I don’t move from the couch when I’m alone 😂. Definitely watch the sequel
These were based on some murders that happened in the directors hometown as a kid, it was never solved. Of course inspired by Manson murders as well

First of all I don’t answer the door during regularly scheduled business hours unless you have a prior invitation, why on gods green earth would I EVER answer the door at 4am??? There were plenty of times when I was left home alone as a kid and you know what I did? Made sure every window was locked, every door was locked, every blind was closed, and that alarm system was set and planted myself in my bedroom for the night.

My opinion, 'The Strangers' is one of the all-time great Horror/Slasher movies, no question. I truly believe it's just about as close to perfect as it can be.
As for 'Prey At Night', I think it's pretty great too... just a really solid & worthy sequel.

The true stories this movie was based on:
The Manson Murders, more specifically Sharon Tate's.
And the director (Bryan Bertino), had an experience as a kid when his parents were out for the night, and someone knocked on his door. His little sister answered, they asked for someone that doesn't live there, and then left. Apparently finding out later that these were the people responsible for multiple break-ins in his neighborhood at the time.
Some people also compare the events of the movie to the Keddie Cabin Murders, though the director did not cite this as an inspiration.
You should def check out more of The Purge movies! The sequels did a way better job at exploring the concept than the original ever did.

The reason this movie stays with you is 100% the "Because you were home" line. Normally, we get this long winded explanation like "20 years ago, your dad drove drunk and killed our parents but got off on a technicality so we're here to get revenge" etc etc etc (Think Billy in the first Scream). The audience processes that "Oh. Well, nothing like that has happened in my life so I'm safe from something like this."
Nope. Not this time. "You were home." They were innocent victims, nothing more. Like most people in the audience. There's no reasoning away the idea this could happen to anyone.
I coincidentally had a White Claw in my hand when you pulled out the shot glass.. I thought we were going to cheers, so I went "CHEERS! -oh" as you immediately shot that thing back lmaoo

This was the first movie I’ve watched since I was little (I’m 31) that absolutely chilled me to the bone! It scared me so bad! I was home alone, late at night, while my kids were upstairs sleeping, & I was in the basement alone. It was terrifying!

i lol’d at 5:34 when you said “oh it’s your sign to quit” and i’m with you, the 7:40 jumpscare when he’s in the shadow watching her is one of my all time favorites! also you being suspicious of james was probably the first time i’ve ever seen someone not trust him when it came to the identity of the strangers. always look forward to your takes on horror movies!
i also didn't trust james at first lmao, i feel like him leaving her alone in the house at *night* was js super sus especially when u watch a lot of scream-core movies where everyone's a suspect
Most of the reactors I’ve watched have thought that James was in on it, including me. It’s just easy to think, “She said no to my proposal, so I’m gonna try to kill her.”
I loved the atmosphere of this film and it IMO trumps some of those foolish moves done by the main characters like the guy leaving his woman behind knowing there's some creepy female out there at the very least. Then they didn't even lock their door. I mean WTF lol. And if you have a shot gun, you CAN'T lose that advantage. You just can't lol.
This movie is loosely based on the Tate murder done by Charles Manson's "family". It's terrifying to think of someone just breaking into your home just for the fun of terrorizing you. Wild.
To this day, I think of this movie whenever I hear Merle Haggard's "21 In Prison." And I think we need The Strangers: Tamara's Story, in which it's shown that "Tamara" was a mean girl who bullied the younger stranger (Dollface??) years ago. 😆

its funny bc as soon as the video ended i got the trailer for the new movie that came out on friday but yes i would recommend watching the sequel, i honestly liked it better.
I watched this in my room with my doggo lol but there were other people at least sleeping in the house incase anyone needed to search for Tamara.

Also, highly recommend you watch 'Funny Games', the remake with Naomi Watts. Home invasion movie without the jump scares. Absolutely one of the most frustrating and disturbing films I've seen.

What boggles my mind in this movie and a lot of horror movies, is peripheral vision. My goodness something moves to my side, no matter how small, or appears by my side I notice it. Full grown men were standing by them and they didn't even SPOT them? Like what?
I wonder if others that live alone have also had that weird feeling getting home late from work. I did when i first moved out.

Grew up on this movie mom and I watched it all the time and I was so scared. Also a couple of months ago I went on a trip with my friend. We rented a air bnb decided to watch this movie,turned it off not even halfway into it, because weird stuff was already happening AND the movie fed into our paranoia 💀
This movie is exactly why I refuse to answer the door after 7 or 8. Unless I know someone is coming over and I see them through the peep hole. Nope not answering. Also make sure everything is locked at all times. Honestly has made me paranoid to get a house. I’m also really skeptical for the upcoming movies. I’m hoping they are this good, the sequel to this wasn’t that great I’m my opinion.

It's interesting (but not surprising) that you say you don't know if you could stab someone with a knife but later say you wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger. I've heard (but can't find the fact-checked data so take this with a grain of salt) that Americans are more likely to comply when threatened with a knife than with a gun. Despite a knife being arguably easier to fight against and despite guns looming so ominously and prominently in the American psyche, we just have a stronger aversion to knives on average. So if you reverse that, I also think it applies that someone might be more wary about inflicting knife violence than gun violence. But who knows.
Killing someone would haunt me forever but make no mistake, as a woman who lives alone, if a man broke into my apartment, he's getting the sharpest thing nearby shoved into his brain immediately. I'd definitely instinctually hesitate if a woman broke in though, potentially to my downfall. The worst thing a woman would probably do is kill me. That's bad but not nearly as bad as what I'm risking if I don't get my pilot G-2 black gel pen through the eye socket of the male intruder asap.
I took the "it'll be easier next time" as it's that girls first time going out with the other 2 killers in order to do this stuff and is, or maybe isn't, religious so she's having a hard time coping with it which is why she wanted the Christian pamphlet

I would have to respectfully disagree with the 15:21 comment --- Imagine his headspace with 1) everything going on with these "strangers" & 2) the fact that he just [accidentally] k*lled his best friend --- but he still reacted without pause to PROTECT the woman he loves from having to see that horror. That's something you can never unsee or forget. Sure, it may seem aggressive but in his state and the circumstances, it's entirely appropriate and justified.
Oh ya I was joking with the “ick” , i totally get the grieving / reaction about what he accidentally just did but earlier in the movie he kinda made decisions that led me to saying the ick joke. It wasn’t that part in particular alone that made me say that

@@kristianberg4264 ya only 1 hour and 27 minutes, a lot of it is silent tension too. The version I posted to patreon was around 28 min but it got killed with copyright issues so had to cut a lot more out for TH-cam to be safe. Once I saw a reaction to ROTS that’s 11 minutes lol that was insane lmao
