I was in Ternopil myself a few weeks back - a nice small-ish city but seemed particularly quiet, especially around the impressive man-made 'pond'. The stork in the first statue - which signifies independence, is a symbol of Ukraine with the bird and its open wings symbolising the Trident. Solomiya Krushelnytska is a famous opera singer from the region. I will definitely be back in the summer. 👍
Thanks for all the info. I've never heard the relation of the stork to the trident before, that's interesting. I put the Wikipedia link for Solomiya in the video description, but I forgot to put a note about it in the video. I'm looking forward to going back this summer as well, after I've had the chance to research the city a little more.
City of my ancestors. Was cool to see this, but what really struck me was how few people there were, especially men. I don’t think I saw a single man in this video. I suppose everyone is enlisted, required to fight in the war 😔 I wonder how many people from Ternipol have died in the war. Next time you’re there, check out the Lemko museum. Lemko are an ethnic sub-group of Ukrainians.
Also, the place of ancestors, from what I have been able to gather, my great great grandparents came from Ternopil Oblast and Borschiv. I wish I knew more. It seems they left when the opportunity opened up to start a new in Canada, as farmers.

@@midwesttraveler2485Ah yeah, I didn't see your wiki link. I had to look up the stork reference - your video piqued my interest!
The churches in Ukraine are exquisite. Coming from the USA myself, I'm always in awe of the history and beauty.
Agreed. They are quite impressive.
