hi there, i have e85 z4 without a multifunctional steering wheel and im interested in purchasing one with the multifunctioing buttons. However im not sure if it will work. Do you know what that cable with the various colours that makes the steering wheel work called?
From what i have seen on the internets, it should be similar procedure. You have to use 2 wires and connect the slip ring to the light switch box. The e85 have separate stalk for cruise controll, so there is no third wire. I think the OEM code for this cable is 61120394848. Just search for "e85 multifunction retrofit cable"... z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16422
You didn't mention the switches on the brake and clutch pedals... what about R/T and talking guy buttons? On my e39 I have factory installed cruise control but no R/T and talking guy, I put a complete panel but unfortunately is not working...
Sorry, I don't know what you mean with the clutch and break pedal... I don't know if this works on E39 and I never looked in to the R/T functions. I assume you need some other hardware like microphone and phone to make that work.
@@BimmerZen R/T have to act like Mode button circles through Radio/CD/Tape/Phone - like a source selector. The talking head button normally will work if you have the phone module (witch I don't have). About cruise control - when you hit the brake or the clutch the function is suspended, the green light remains on the ike but will only resume to the selected speed if you press again the button on the steering wheel. Test if it does like that - press the brake or the clutch and see if the speed is decreasing if so press again the button to see if the car is gaining again speed and stays at the selected speed. The I/O button shuts ON or OFF the entire system. There are 2 switches at e39 that triggers the suspend state - i guess the same should be at e46

Hi, Will it work on my M43 1998 motor ? I saw manual where guy need to add stepper motor And control throttle. M50+ motors have this parts alredy prepared from factory ?
Question: My Radio buttons are not working. This is only specific to me most likely; because i didnt have connectors on the radio so i wired every one of the cables myself for my new android head unit. It works but steering wheel buttons doesnt work on it. Because i dont know which cable to use to connect Android's steering wheel control cable. So most likely i need diagram for that. Could you help me out?
Not sure I understand your question... If you are replacing a steering wheel that already has (working) buttons, then it's not necessary to do the wiring (like upgrading to sport steering wheel). If you have a steering wheel without buttons and you are replacing it with a steering wheel with buttons, then you will have to install the wires.
@@BimmerZen sorry for my bad formulation. I mean, I have a steering wheel without buttons. Just to avoid all the pain with cables, I just hope "dream" that all wires maybe are already set up from factory and I only need to replace the steering wheel part ? is that even possible....
@@luisqp66 If the car came from the factory without the multifunction then you will have to install the wires. It's really not that hard to do, i think:)
Finally i tried exactly as your video but ot doesn't work.... I asume problem may be from clamp that doesnt make correct contact or steering wheel boutons parts not working....
I have a question. My bmw is year 1999 , will this work as well? Because all of the MFL wiring kit that i can find comes with only 2 wires, not 3, so im a little confused by that.
@@davispupols from what i can understand the 323i with the M52TU engines come with a drive by cable/bowden throttle controll, but they still have electronically controlled throttle. This means you should be able to retrofit MF steering wheel, but you must still have 3 cables: two go to light switch and one goes to the DME unit at the front. You should be able to find some useful forum posts if you google multifunction retrofit for your car model.
Hello friends bmw 2004 e46 318 retrofit cruise control felt there is a guide but it does not work box ecu 27 pin or with 37 which pin should be connected
Check the wire going to the ECU box. Check for continuity form steering wheel buttons connector to the ecu wire. Check if you used the right pin in the ecu connector.
Will cruise control work if I use non original radio? I know it is not possible for multifunction buttons, but I would like to try to connect cruise control.
@@AladinTechnology I don't know what you mean by "how can i do it without mfl adapter"...? I don't know exact wire length and size, I bought a MFL kit from ebay (link in description). Strange... Did you double check your connections? All the wires going to the right pins? What happens if you disconnect the new wires - does the indicator work?
@@BimmerZen if disconnect the new wire from pin 27 the multifunction stops working and the indicators works again, plus even the light for the fog lights and high beem also doesn't work while the new wore is connected
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the radio controls will work. For the cruise control you need additional cruise control module and some other parts installed: www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=AL11-EUR-01-1999-E46-BMW-316i_19&diagId=66_0043.

@@florinlepadatu5648 Yes, the E46 already has those switches on the clutch and brake pedals, so the cruise control function just piggy backs of those and disables the cruise control if you press them.
hi i have a bmw e46 318ci n42 11/2001 prod.
will need wiring ? becuase i have heard that bmw that is after 2001 is plug and play?
You will need the wiring kit; 3 wires and pins that fit in to the steering wheel connector

Hi, Will it work on my M43 1998 motor ? I saw manual where guy need to add stepper motor And control throttle. M50+ motors have this parts alredy prepared from factory ?
I think You can not just install the multi-function steering wheel. You will need the servomotor retrofit. I don't know about the M50 engines...
@@BimmerZen i read any forums And i think they add El throttle from 2000+. But need to check IT when i come home tonight. But ty for response.
i need MFL wiring kit please i can not find it
Question: My Radio buttons are not working.
I have no experience with aftermarket radio units, so I doubt I can help you. You need diagram for the light switch?
@@BimmerZen thank you for the reply anyhow 🙂
I need diagram of steering wheel controls to head unit wiring diagram.
Hi,, where can i get that MFL wiring?
Hey i need you help please! I have a late 2004 318ci and i dont know if i can retrofit this mod. Can you help me?
You can
I have a 325ti is it possible just changing steering wheel buttons it all works or we always need to do the wiring part ??
Is it possible that the red connectors don't connect properly ?
Zelo dobro, hvala.
I have a question. My bmw is year 1999 , will this work as well? Because all of the MFL wiring kit that i can find comes with only 2 wires, not 3, so im a little confused by that.
Exact model and production month/year?
@@BimmerZen its an e46 pfl. production year is 1999. and the month is 9, if not mistaken
@@BimmerZen 323i with the m52b25 engine
@@davispupols from what i can understand the 323i with the M52TU engines come with a drive by cable/bowden throttle controll, but they still have electronically controlled throttle. This means you should be able to retrofit MF steering wheel, but you must still have 3 cables: two go to light switch and one goes to the DME unit at the front. You should be able to find some useful forum posts if you google multifunction retrofit for your car model.

hi i just did this but everything works fine
just the cruise control does not work
do you now why
Check the wire going to the ECU box. Check for continuity form steering wheel buttons connector to the ecu wire. Check if you used the right pin in the ecu connector.
Will cruise control work if I use non original radio? I know it is not possible for multifunction buttons, but I would like to try to connect cruise control.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think cruise control should work just fine. I think radio commands are just ignored if you have a custom radio.
BimmerZen thanks bro!
Hi what wires size and lenght is this, how can i do it without mfl adapter
did you delete comment for wire size, what was it
@@AladinTechnology I don't know what you mean by "how can i do it without mfl adapter"...? I don't know exact wire length and size, I bought a MFL kit from ebay (link in description). I think 0.50 - 0.75 mm2 on the size and two wires are about 1 m and on that goes to the front ecu box is a bit longer, probably 1.5 m.
Hello, What is the cable diameter?
0.35 - 0.5 mm2
does this work for 325i 2001
Yes. All models with MS43 ECU (M54 engine) have this option.
is this the same procedure for E46 Sedan 2004 N46 engine? especially the ecu cable part

@@BimmerZen what is the specification for the wires? (Awg,diameter, etc)
@@AldoSoeprayogi That i do not know. Any normal quality soft braided 0.75m2 copper wire should work fine
After i connect pin 27 on the light module, my indicator lights doesn't work on the instrument cluster but does outside!!
Strange... Did you double check your connections? All the wires going to the right pins? What happens if you disconnect the new wires - does the indicator work?

did you fix this?

If i have m43 emgine and just want the radio buttons working and ignore cruise control, will it work somehow?
I'm not 100% sure, but I think the radio controls will work. For the cruise control you need additional cruise control module and some other parts installed: www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=AL11-EUR-01-1999-E46-BMW-316i_19&diagId=66_0043.

Yes. MSS54 ECU has pin 27 for MFL on X60004 (40 pin) connector.

but the i/o controls M sport mode on the cs wheel... instead of turning cruise control on or off. How will it operate in this instance?
