He became knowledgeable on the things that he was interested and chose to follow up on them, rather than be taught a little bit of many things, like is done in schools. His curiosity helped him.
Everything he touches just shines. Love his audiobook version of his retellings of Greek Myth. It’s wonderful to hear him read in his own voice. It’s how I calm down and get to sleep when I’m too thinky.

What an incredible and brave experiment to attempt in a Late Night slot on US TV - a simple, honest, one-on-one, serious discussion - without an audience, a band, forced jokes written by a team of 20 writers, gimmicks, etc, nowhere to hide. And how extraordinarily well it worked! This was superb! Stephen Fry is well known as a unique force of nature in himself, but this shows just what an intellect Craig Ferguson ALWAYS has been, even if he often chooses to hide it behind absurdity and silliness.
Two very lovely, intelligent people. I can listen to Stephen talk for hours (even through occasional repeated anecdotes ;), and I miss Craig's wit and humour. Thanks for the wonderful post.

That was terrific! I’ve never heard Craig be so serious before, and Stephen always reminds me bit a of Christopher Hitchens. I love Craig’s silliness, but it was good to see another side of him.

I miss Craig its 2022 and i still love the show. I was going through such a bad time and i remeber in the first 5 mins of watching I felt a giggle, and i had no idea what it was. He taught me to laugh again. All that aside his wonderful casual chats with his guests was brilliant. And I finally realized how adorable he is😄 and seeing Stephen Fry whom I respect and love also chatting with Craig was a great way to spend a Sunday morning and coffee. How can Stephen Fry think that there are people that don't like him, he's a national treasure in the UK. He's one of the 5 famous people for dinner thing for me, I could sit and listen to him talk all day, so articulate and so honest, both things are a bit of a rarity these days. This format is outstanding, with no audience to have to consider they can get into deeper converstaions that they just wouldn't be able to with an audience present as it's more personal, it also helps they are long time friends.
I'm binge watching Craig , and must I say: thank you so much, truly sincere. Not only for uploading such amazing content, but also for this excellent editing regarding tricky words, idioms and quotations. I'm not a native speaker , and even though I'm fluent, some expressions are more challenging to grasp entirely.

These Stephen Fry interviews were such a pleasure. The exchange between Craig and Stephen were so amazing. I hung on every word. Thank you for making this compilation.
I could watch them just converse for days or weeks on end and not get bored. They each have varied life experiences and educations that compliment each other when they talk to one another. Craig also has a wonderful ability to just let someone make their point, or just to shut up and listen if he doesn’t know about something so he might learn. The way he would lean on his hand is the adult equivalent of a child cross-legged on the floor with their chin on their fists listening to a great story by a relative.
Discovered this far to late. Now Stephen Fry is my absolutely favorite guest of the show. Sadly I know that it will most likely never happen but i would really adore a talk show with a concept like the interview without audience hosted by Craig joined by guest as interlectual as Stephen is.
I am always in trouble when I watch or read someone like Stephen Fry because I find I have to stop so often and go look up definitions of words or make notes on things to find out more about later. What a guy!!!
I’m amazed at Stephen’s ability to speak non-stop AND off-the-cuff, and do it intelligently. He’s high brow without being snobbish. And despite the silliness Craig is known for, he keeps up, throwing in his own intellectual questions and quick witted comments. Such a great pair to listen to.
This entire episode is one of the best I've ever seen. I AM RUINED. Not sure I'm ever enjoy another episode as much as this one. It has something to do with Stephen being one of my favorite people, but it was so interesting and engaging. The segment without audience was stunning. I love seeing a bit of a more serious side of Craig, he is also an exceptionally intelligent person! And of course I could listen to Stephen speak and talk 24 hours a day, yes even as I slept.

Sophomoric I believe refers to College Sophomores. I dont find him irritatingly stupid at all (and I often do with comedians). I am pretty sure he's very aware of how-maybe sex-obssessed?- he is but he is also being honest about male sexual feelings, and he also pushes it further because that in itself is funny. And he is really quick.
I agree I have been hugely pleased to see how well-read and thoughtful he is. I doubt that Colbert, Stewart, Kimmel, or Seth Myers (or Letterman) are as well-read, though I enjoy them all. I suspect it is because he grew up in Britain. In 8 recent visits, I have been so pleased to so often find myself in conversation with Brits from several walks of life who take pleasure and enjoyment in learning, reading, and discussion.

The sit-down interview they did was like an early version of podcasting. Craig was so far ahead because he wanted to be so different from normal late night shows
Not at all - this is just Craig pivoting to another familiar format of that time, akin to shows like Charlie Rose. The amazing fact was that he could pull it off on a comedy talk show such as his - and that’s because Craig Ferguson is the man.
I’ve never payed attention to a video that was this long and wasn’t a movie. I wish I knew half of what Stephen knew. That man is just so intelligent and witty. I need to find more of his stuff to watch. That video was brilliant.

This is standard English Language and Literature and spoken word. It was a normal part of my primary and the grammar school. What on earth are peoples education like?
This compilation -- more than any other -- proved to me that the best present I could ever have would be a week of conversations with Craig Ferguson. I always loved him because he was so quick witted and nutty. But my word, he is such a deep thinker and so erudite. I sit here and write down the names he mentions so I can read up on them!

It's nice not having an audience constantly interrupting the interview. They do make it fun but it's much better to be able to really focus on the interview now and then

I have problems sleeping, where i am awake until 6 am, or later, then i sleep for 12 hours; when i wake up, I am immediately in a bad mood, because I have "missed the day." Today, in addition to that, the weather is cold, grey and drizzling. I get up, anyway and turn to TH-cam and see this video, intending to watch just enough to save it in archive, but instead, I watch the entire video. Hearing Stephen Fry speak did not "cheer me up" (that would be asking too much of anyone), but, it helped me to reach a more balanced state of mind, which I think is the most that one person can do for another, and he does it so well. I'm sure, somewhere in Shakespeare there is a line about "the sweet voice of reason"; well, I think when Reason speaks, it is in the voice of Stephen Fry.
Stephen is great. I've always been in awe of people like him who can quote so much from literature just like that. I mean, I have read books and other texts from a lot of sources but mostly I can never remember the exact quotes nor who said them. Of course I have my own principles and aspirations and I can try to explain them in my own words, but never in quotes from other people.
Stupid me, I loved them both so I thought it would be a great video to fall asleep to, hearing two intelligent and funny humans having a chat... ...but they were so interesting so I stayed awake😊
These two learned and enchanting gents are simply a wonderful to listen to. I am so very happiness to render my time to them, as I feel I have gained something or remembered something I had lost long ago.
Thanks for posting this - Much as I love some talk show hosts, there are very few I would watch an old show by and of those I think conversations with Stephen Fry must be one of the best reasons to do so.
Craig Ferguson should do long form interviews. He’s got that light in his eyes of not just humor but a kind of modest genius lingering there. You know that when he’s in the mood to talk to a friend those conversations are gold. So he should do that. Someone please tell him for me.

It has something to do with Stephen being one of my favorite people, but it was so interesting and engaging. The segment without audience was stunning. I love seeing a bit of a more serious side of Craig, he is also an exceptionally intelligent person! And of course I could listen to Stephen speak and talk 24 hours a day, yes even as I slept.
Craig used to be one of my absolute must watch ! In those days you had to actually watch the television at the time it was broadcast. I miss you Craig and I love you Stephen

Comedians are often intelligent people. Some of them are very very intelligent.
Sophomoric I believe refers to College Sophomores. I dont find him irritatingly stupid at all (and I often do with comedians). I am pretty sure he's very aware of how-maybe sex-obssessed?- he is but he is also being honest about male sexual feelings, and he also pushes it further because that in itself is funny. And he is really quick.
I agree I have been hugely pleased to see how well-read and thoughtful he is. I doubt that Colbert, Stewart, Kimmel, or Seth Myers (or Letterman) are as well-read, though I enjoy them all. I suspect it is because he grew up in Britain. In 8 recent visits, I have been so pleased to so often find myself in conversation with Brits from several walks of life who take pleasure and enjoyment in learning, reading, and discussion.

Not at all - this is just Craig pivoting to another familiar format of that time, akin to shows like Charlie Rose. The amazing fact was that he could pull it off on a comedy talk show such as his - and that’s because Craig Ferguson is the man.

I always loved him because he was so quick witted and nutty. But my word, he is such a deep thinker and so erudite. I sit here and write down the names he mentions so I can read up on them!

It's nice not having an audience constantly interrupting the interview. They do make it fun but it's much better to be able to really focus on the interview now and then

I have problems sleeping, where i am awake until 6 am, or later, then i sleep for 12 hours; when i wake up, I am immediately in a bad mood, because I have "missed the day." Today, in addition to that, the weather is cold, grey and drizzling. I get up, anyway and turn to TH-cam and see this video, intending to watch just enough to save it in archive, but instead, I watch the entire video. Hearing Stephen Fry speak did not "cheer me up" (that would be asking too much of anyone), but, it helped me to reach a more balanced state of mind, which I think is the most that one person can do for another, and he does it so well. I'm sure, somewhere in Shakespeare there is a line about "the sweet voice of reason"; well, I think when Reason speaks, it is in the voice of Stephen Fry.
This smart/mature yet comedic/childish dynamic they have is just so wonderful to listen to

Stephen is great. I've always been in awe of people like him who can quote so much from literature just like that. I mean, I have read books and other texts from a lot of sources but mostly I can never remember the exact quotes nor who said them. Of course I have my own principles and aspirations and I can try to explain them in my own words, but never in quotes from other people.

Thanks for posting this - Much as I love some talk show hosts, there are very few I would watch an old show by and of those I think conversations with Stephen Fry must be one of the best reasons to do so.
Craig Ferguson should do long form interviews. He’s got that light in his eyes of not just humor but a kind of modest genius lingering there. You know that when he’s in the mood to talk to a friend those conversations are gold. So he should do that. Someone please tell him for me.
