  • Don't like how your G25 shifts? Jealous of G27's improved shifter feel? Now you can make your G25 feel just as good, if not better!

      you can use the g25 shifter if you can find one. you just need to fit the g27 cable or adapt the g25 cable

      No you can't

    • @festa289
      @festa289 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      as mentioned above. you need to either open both shifters and unplug the cables from the circuit boards and swap them over (so use the complete g27 shifter cable on the g25 shifter), or mod the g25 cable (there like 2 or 3 wires inside the cable that need to be moved). i believe you can also get a plug and play adapter to make it work

    Just did it to the shifter for the g920/ g29. Works! Same design except the added spring at the bottom holding the metal plates together. The added spring doesn’t allow for a 7mm long spacer. The ball bearing will pop out bc of pressure. So if you do this to the newer Logi shifter you can only do 2-3mm spacer. Hope this helps!

    12 years on and still the best tutorial. And probably the best mod too since its virtually free, fairly simple and makes a huge difference.

    For anyone wondering, yes it does work for the G29 shifter (they are exactly the same the G29 is just missing buttons) here this guy disassembled it : th-cam.com/video/d7qCn3o8K98/w-d-xo.html.
    Personally I just used some wet paper to fill the spring's socket, you should fill it until you see like 5 spirals of the spring no more than that or the spring is going to let go of the ball.
    The o ring can be replaced by any rubber band really and it will work well.
    Don't screw the shifter's bar the wrong way around tough (or the knob will be inversed).

    this guide helped me finish my G25 mods, moved clutch spring into brake, got rid of brake spring, got a stiffer throttle spring in the clutch, from stiffness it now goes brake/clutch/throttle but they are all fairly easy to press, feels like my daily driver, 2006 Ford Falcon, the shifter now also has a spacer in it, bit bigger than shown so sequential doesnt pop down and screw up and H pattern feels a bit stronger when shifting

    I did this Mod along with the Ebrake mod last night. I did not feel too much of a difference in overall feel. I used a 5/16ths long wooden spacer (made from a chop stick). I also double layer electrical taped the holes to reduce clicking (figuring the added force from the spacer would make it louder). The result was not so much a heavier feel, but more of a notch into gear, or more of a hurtle. It is welcome and an improvement for sure, but not what I expected. Clicking is about the same. Thanks

  • @filipbrownify
    @filipbrownify 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I used this video twice already but never to do the mod, just to see how to dissasemble it and do some maintenance on the wiring. This time, while the shifter was apart, I also threw in a random spacer I found around which is more or less the same size you used in the video and boy oh boy it feels so much better now. I always thought it cannot make such a difference such a small mod but it does.

  • @chilicoke
    @chilicoke  14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @eddy6781, Make sure both potentiometers shown at 3:36 are pointing downward into their positions when you assemble the unit back into the enclosure. The "stiffness" of each shifts is determined by the force/pressure the spring puts on the ball bearing (which is why we added the spacer). Double check that.

  • @chilicoke
    @chilicoke  14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @halfrican99503 When you rotate the knob to switch between H/sequential it moves an assembly into/out of position to lock out the side gates. There is a switch/button that the assembly triggers to enable/disable sequential shift. Sorry I don't remember the details but look for anything that is/should be triggered by the assembly and trouble shoot from there.
    Also make sure wires aren't being crushed by the casing when you put everything back together.
    Good luck!

  • @chilicoke
    @chilicoke  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @eddy6781 If that connector pops out that means the wire is under too much tension, it shouldn't be.
    As for the ball bearing, you need that cause that's what make the shifter "click" and provide the "notichness" feel when you shift. Check your local hardware stores for replacement steel ball bearings, if you are in the US, check ACE hardware as some stores carry them.
    Good luck.

    ANOTHER MOD: Anyone, who wants to silent the shifter, replace the metal ball ( at 2:45 ) with a plastic one. Then apply a lot of grease on it to make it slippery. The shifter will move a lot smoother, but it feels good to me. And its silent. You can find the right plastic balls for example in airsoft guns.

    had an issue with pushing forward on the shifter when in sequential mode (it wouldnt register). pulling worked fine. took the whole thing apart (fixed the shift knob orientation while i was at it) and it seems that the problem was the shift selector knob. if its pushed down, then it pushes up on the bracket that slides in and makes it so you cant shift up. so be gentle with it when you put it back into place and i also didnt screw the case back on super tight.

    I just did this and it was relatively easy. If you follow this video, there is nothing that can go wrong.
    However, watching this video made me think that it's a clean job, but actually the shifter is covered with grease, so your hands, desk, tools and most likely some clothes will get dirty.
    In result, the click when shifting, sounds a bit better and you gain some resistance when shifting in or out of gear.

    k, i just did this. couldnt find any spacers that fit, so i just took a wooden dowel, trimmed it down so it would fit in the hole, then cut it off at about 1/4''
    the only mistake i made was that i put the shifting rod back in backwards after i put the rubber o ring in, so i had to put my shift knob on backwards (seam facing towards me) and the top shift diagram is backwards. but it was such a pain to get that side plate back on, im just gonna leave it.

    Can confirm this mod works in 2020!!! Just be very careful about the wiring and such around the mechanism for the leaver for I think I was a little too forceful and could have made the mod go down south.

    The Driving Force Pro and the later model have the wheel and the shifter together. The shifter in this video actually is from the G25 and I'm sure because I have both the DFP and the G25.

    hm, a lot more robust construction inside than I would have expected.
    the g25/27 are becoming more and more like the msffb2 with very strong demand on the used market and extensive modding.
    This is one of those nice 'clean' mods, where the changes shouldn't degrade much over time and are completely reversible. Nice!

    What size are the four screws you take out on the clamp? I've taken mine off but have since lost them and need to replace the clamp

    Also, if you put a thick washer under the spring like I did, squeezing it back together and back in place is a pain in the ass and you will fail the first couple of times. The fact that your hands are all greasy does not help at this at all.
    There is no difference in what you put under the spring, it just has to be roughly the right size. I used a hard rubber tube, which I cut in correct size. I had to squeeze it in and first it was too high, so putting the shifter back together was impossible.

    Curious to know if you solved the issue. I have to same problem now after completing this mod. 2nd gear never likes to engage when shifting from 1st to 2nd.
