Combination is definitely one of their heaviest, but so is Nobody's Fault from the same album. Round and Round is a super heavy song and riff, but the riff itself is just not as strong musically as some of their others, slightly predictable. Still a great song though. I've heard some early bootleg live versions of Make It where that heaviness really comes forward, even more than on the studio recording. Last Child is usually thought of as much more funky than heavy but that main riff is heavy as hell. Night in the Ruts is underrated for sure, but not my favorite. Chiquita is definitely a heavy (and pretty weird) riff. Joe's solo on their cover of the Yardbirds' Think About It is flat out insane, and that whole section is really heavy, but also has an almost punk vibe in its energy. A lot of their songs shift in feel from section to section, the verses can be more funky and dirty bluesy and then it suddenly has a really heavy bridge or turnaround or something (Same Old Song and Dance). Other stuff is just too strange to quite classify. Spaced, or Sight For Sore Eyes. Are those heavy? Parts of them, maybe? It's hard to tell. Again there are some live bootlegs (not the album "Live Bootleg") versions of Sight For Sore Eyes that are slammin' heavy.
Basically, 'Rocks' sounds pretty heavy to me almost all the way through. They were still at a point where the heroin wasn't hampering... but helping them; yet the material was very accessible.
Great video! Channeling Brad with the Explorer?..;) "Ruts" is a great album. My favorite heavy Aero riffs are "Lighting Strikes", "My Fist, Your Face" and "Nobody's Fault". Testament even covered that one. Keep jammin'!
Completely agree. NIGHT IN THE RUTS is criminally under-rated. The entire album is fantastic, and really raw, heavy & kinda drug fueled (in a good way). That riff to Chiquita is mind blowing, the solo in "Think about it," the funk of "Three mile smile," the sleazy brilliance of Cheesecake, the haunting beauty of "Mia." Again, i listen to the entire album in sequence, like Van Halen's "Women & children first."
I missed out on Night in the ruts so I'm glad to find this video. I did see the Joe Perry project around '81 and was deaf for a few days haha! Nice playin' man.
Joe Perry was one of my first big influences. I always liked Aerosmith and was happy to see them make a monumental comeback in the 80s. I saw them on Permanent Vacation in L.A. and they put on a hell of a show. I love "Seasons of Wither." Great song. I love the 70s era albums, although I do love Done with Mirrors as well. I used to cover "Make It" in a couple bands. The dropped D makes the horse riding heavy and chunky. Night in the Ruts is a good album. I always loved "Chiquita" and "Bone to Bone" and "Three Mile Smile". I agree on "Chiquita." That guitar riff is almost Sabbath-like. I dig the Hamer Explorer BTW. That's like what Brad played in the video for the song. I saw Aerosmith play this live on the Permanent Vacation tour.
I too gravitate toward the heavy Aerosmith songs, and heavy in general. Ironic that you chose to record this video where you couldn't crank it. But still a good post. My favorite heavy Aerosmith riff is from Nobody's Fault. Thanks.
Wow! sure appreciate the Chiquita posit. I also like Draw the Line. I was about 13 when I heard it after school at a friends house. Didn't understand the hate criticism goin on at the time.
Combination - excellent, hard riff, and one of their best. Aren't you missing a few upstrokes on that 😉? Nice work on Make It! Chiquita? Mmm, I don't even know ya, but guess we're gonna have to rumble! Nobody's Fault is in the top three, along with Combination, as well as a tie between Toys, Saddle, and Rats. So I guess that's the top five! ✌
Rocks is my fav but Draw The Like was my most disliked Aero album and was very polarizing with the fans of the 70s and now I think it is great ..Sight For Sore Eyes is a very chunky riff
NOBODYS FAULT is the heaviest. LIGHTNING STRIKES is slow but cool... SHEILA is cool but not heavy. Best song is NO MORE NO MORE or SEASONS OF WITHER...

I totally forgot about Round and Round. Great song and worthy… you have some great additions… pinning this one!!! ☝️
Nobody's fault followed by lightning strikes are my picks for heaviest Aerosmith riffs.
Solid choices.
Combination and Chiquita are awesome.... took me ages to work out Chiquita....
Chiquita is always tough. Same. Took me forever to get that one too.
Basically, 'Rocks' sounds pretty heavy to me almost all the way through. They were still at a point where the heroin wasn't hampering... but helping them; yet the material was very accessible.
Rocks....rocks! Absolutely my Favorite Aerosmith album...and yes I have the original LP. Nobody's Fault and Back in the Saddle is amazing...
Do you have the sleeve with the drawing on one side and all the photos on the other?
Those are all great songs. I agree that Night in the Ruts is very good
You'd have to fight Brad, he thinks Nobody's Fault is their heaviest.
Brad might win, but only because I’d fan girl on him.
That would be my pick for the heaviest riff of Aerosmith. Testament even covered it.
Combination riff 💯 agree, plus the whole dang song has gripped me and kept me all these years!
Agree - the whole song is bad ass.
Not their heaviest but back in the saddle will forever be my favourite aerosmith tune.
No argument from me!! Thanks for watching!

Nice pickup on that regarding Brad. lol yup 100 percent… My Fist is a killer track… That’s my jumping off point for Aerosmith…
Let's not forget S.O.S., Movin' Out and Adam's Apple!
Nice! If I had to pick heaviest, I would say Nobody’s Fault, No More No More, Draw the Line.
Thanks for doing this!
Good list!!!!!!!
I love the riff on Shame on You
Rag Dolls turns me on!!!
Get the Lead Out also has a great riff.
Completely agree.

I could not agree more.

Sweet. I was a bit too young to see the Project. But I love that record. East Coast, West Coast is a killer Joe Perry song.
Me too. Where’d you see him? The loudest show I’ve seen was JP at the HOB. Just blistering.

I love the Hamer. It’s a beast of a guitar. I got it in a trade, and it will never leave my arsenal. It’s one of my best sounding and playing guitars.

Inspiration to do anything hits me at 5am. lol I’m on Florida old person time….
Adams Apple honorable mention
Good one for sure
I'd have to say nobody's fault off rocks
Honorable mentioned, rats in the cellar
Nobody’s fault is great and super heavy.
70s Aerosmith
Great video
100 percent? Thank you for watching.
What's up Steph or Steve! Love me some good old Aerosmith licks! I love the Hamer guitar!!!
Thanks Mike!!!! Appreciate you checking in! Yeah old Aerosmith rules.
Wow! sure appreciate the Chiquita posit. I also like Draw the Line. I was about 13 when I heard it after school at a friends house. Didn't understand the hate criticism goin on at the time.
Thanks! My favorite tune

Thanks! 😃I figured it out on the spot. Never perfect but close enough!

Yeah I dig AEROSMITH seen them many times
Great picks! I’ve always liked Lick and a promise.
YOU READ MY DAMN MIND
lol
agree with Right in the Nuts…. Great album, kinda dark. Mia = “heavy tune “ !
Is that a later tune? I don’t think I know Mia.
Last track on album. Tyler’s daughter Mia
Yup....Nobody's Fault def heaviest, and sigh.....Brad gets ignored ...again. on the positive...anyone who loves aerosmith is my friend
We’re all pals here.
NOBODYS FAULT is the heaviest. LIGHTNING STRIKES is slow but cool... SHEILA is cool but not heavy. Best song is NO MORE NO MORE or SEASONS OF WITHER...
Great list … love seasons of wither.
