It's the walls of Akershus festning. They walk from there to the royal castle. It only happens a few days every summer, but it is a lot of fun. They go through town and I have several times seen tourists scatter when they turn a corner 😂 at 12:53 they turn out onto Karl Johan! I am so impressed with them tackling road blocks! I have never seen that before. They are among the best in the world and travel the earth to show of their skills. We can thanks all the kids marching bands in Norway for this, all the bands you see on the 17th of May 😊 The song they are singing is about all the colours of the Norwegian flag in the Norwegian nature! It was made in or right after the second World War and is a song with a lot of pride that we all know and sing on 17th of May, my kid in kindergarten knows it 😊 The march the play after the cut in the video is "Gammel jegermarsj" (Old hunters march) it's our most famous march and very 17. mai. Fills me totally with national pride!! ❤
You should react to their drill performances from Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The drill team is part of the 3rd Company of the King's Guard battalion. This company, known as the Band and Drill Company, combines musical performances with precision drill routines. The drill unit consists exclusively of soldiers serving their first service. They are selected for their height (minimum 170 cm), physical fitness, and rhythmic coordination abilities. The drill team undergoes rigorous training to perfect their routines: Members consists exclusively of soldiers serving their first service. They start their year of conscription in October and train through the winter. They undergo a 2-month training and selection process focusing on basic drill movements. In April, they perform their first evaluation parade in front of an audience, including senior members of the Norwegian Armed Forces. The drill squad consists of up to 40 selected soldiers who are specialized in rifle drills. The service is physically and mentally hard and consists of large amounts of physical training, close order and weapons exercises. This results in the drill guards becoming among the world's best in their field, and are the spearhead of rifle practice in Norway. The King's Guard drill team is famous for its precision and skill: They regularly participate in international military tattoos, including the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Their performances often combine drill routines with musical accompaniment from the band
Excellent and complementary comments have already been written, so I won't mention anything other than that I think all Norwegians are very proud of our young soldiers, who in the course of a year's training will be among the world's best military marching bands and drill tropps. Just have to mention (as others have mentioned before) that the reason they can be so good is that they have participated in marching bands since they were children. Norwegians are very patriotic, as you can see on our national day. The number of Norwegian women who have their own hand-sewn national costume, bunad, is very high, and more and more men are also getting their own bunad. Since the garments are passed down, the number of women's bunads will increase in line with new men's bunads that comes into being.
I'm a monarcist because our first king was elected by the people when we became independent from Sweden and during WW2 the king defended Norway's right to be a free nation by not surrendering to Hitler. Norway having a monarcy have become a symbol of Norway being an independent and free nation. Whatever drama that is surrounding our monarcy is from insignificant relatives that will never sit on the throne. Every family has a black sheep and a moron, if anything it just goes to show that the our royal family is just like any other family. I don't expect perfection from the king, I expect it from the true leaders of Norway that has real power, our elected politicans... Sadly their failure to deliver never surprises and maybe we should just return all the power to the king, at least he seems to give a damn about Norway and the people living here.
Most Norwegian-born Norwegians know about the King's Guard. His Majesty's King's Guard are very popular and are invited around the world for military tattoos. The King's Guard is the King's bodyguards. They have, among other things, been to Edinburgh military tattoo many times, at Canadian Military Tattoo in Halifax, Novia Scotia. Every year there has also been an international military tattoo in Oslo. They have some bold scenes with weapons where they throw the weapons over the shoulder to the next soldier behind them who catches the weapon. The entire corps are synchronized. Garden's most famous company is the 3rd Guards Company. It consists of a music and drill troop. Every 17th May they march up Karl Johans Gate. Along the way they stop and invite to the ladies' dance where soldiers invite a random lady from the audience and dance a waltz with them.

26:50 He said, "Keep out to the side". So during the summer (when these parades are held) is when the music company is at it's best, as they start the service in the fall, and they are in it for only a year. They have actually right now fresh recruits, and they are going to hold a debut consert now on november 8th. At the castle they did a change of guards during this performance (it was clipped away). The guards behind the band was the guards that were going on duty at the castle, there is a guard change every day, but unless they have this parade, they are just driven up to the castle and have a small cermony instead. If the drummers loose a stick, they have two extra sticks across their chest, and they are very good at grabbing them without anyone noticing (unless you have a video of it and can rewind).
The comment that we have military parades in Norway, is not true. This is not a parade. It's HMKG marching to their assigned workstation at tne royal castle. A military parade is showing off the armed forces and military equipment aka the parade at The Red Square in Moscow
That march you thought was from a movie is "Army of the Nile" composed by Kenneth J Alford in 1941 after the allies first victory in the WW2 against Mussolini's army in north Africa. It's probably been used in several war movies, although I couldn't find an example.
31:33 I could be wrong, but I believe they continue on back up to the Garde Camp further up the hills. In the direction of where you would go when going to Holmenkollen. :) This is one of those changing of the guards parades. The soldiers in the rear with weapons where the ones that were relieving the current guard group at the palace. That's what was taking place where the last cut in the video occured. This was that years contingents last parade before they were done with their 1 year service, and a new batch of fresh recruits would come in and replace them (I've got them on film, they were pretty good too). And it all has to be rebuilt from scratch to meet or surpase the standards of the previous contingent. ;) :P
Hahaha, no I'm not the one filming. The clip is terrible (sorry about that), but it's the one with the most music (not just drumming). Also it has the change of the guard included - which most clips lack. The trumpets in the start of the clip is to say that "The King's men are marching towards the King", when they're at the parliament the trumpets mean "we're marching to the king. Not alarm needed. We respect the peoples chosen government", and at the palace "we are here Lord King". Conscription is by all genders from the age of 18, but you can opt out, if you don't want to do military service. Once you've done military service, and your service ends, you're a part of "Heimevernet" - The reserves. Just as you are:) Thanks for reacting:)
In Norway, we learn as children that peace is much more than the lack of conflict, but war is nothing more than the lack of peace. There are only two options in life; grow or decay. And I disagree with the person who said this was a military parade. It is a parade by unarmed soldiers marching as a band. Necessary evil is necessary, but nothing to be proud of and nothing to celebrate. Trust and peace are difficult to construct and easy to destroy. If you have to remind people of your power to intimidate, you're not respected, because one who is respected does not need to intimidate. This is true from the school yard bully to the drug dealer to the strongman tyrant.
This was not a good video. lol You can check them out in millitary tattoo videos. I don't think there are many Norwegians who doesn't know about His Majesty The King’s Guard. They are well known all around the world. In the past 10 years they been "best in show" 3 times at the worlds biggest millitary Tattoo in Edinburgh. My nephew was actually a part of it one of the year they won. I was a very proud aunt! lol
I recommend the Norwegian Military Tattoo from '04, that was a really good preformance. :) Yeah, this was badly filmed. Not horrible though, just badly. I wish it was better. Cause it has my most favorite changing of the guard parade to the palace I've seen so far. :)
I was a republican/anarchist since I was a teen, but around 40, I became a monarchist although I have come to believe that the system they had on Rapa Nui is more to my liking. But I have come to love the principle that someone's only duty is to represent the people as a whole and stand up to the politicians. Democracy is fragile, so you need someone who is strong and also non-political. But I dislike the name "monarchy", because the Norwegian hierarchy is upside down. The King is not a ruler, but a servant. I do think that the King should be replaced by a group though. Something like a Council of Wisdom. We could afford to have a hundred people replacing one man.

if you love Army movies, you are in for a Treat: Narvik, the first battle WW2/Britain/Norway. Check out the history.
My father was in the Kings Guard. But I don't think he was in the band. He stood watch at the palace and on Skaugum.
The movies name is "Quislings siste dager". And ten secounds later he found it. :D
I used to be in "Kongens Garde"
They are very close to the castle, Freia is far away, but the Freia clock on the middle of karl Johans gate is the other way.
Paul, The Parliament was after you noticed the Freia sign.
