I like this version of Lara, even though, she's different than the Classic version. Both this Lara and the gameplay suits well.

Such an awesome game! Combat is amazing and so smooth and responsive. Love Lara in this game love how she starts of so innocent with no hands on abilities, and turns into an absolute mad women. I like how she still shows innocence and weaknesses rather than cockiness like in shadow.

It's ironic how this still stands to be the one Tomb Raider which has the best combat in the franchise. Both enemies' AI and combat arenas see a significant downgrade in Rise and Shadow.
Plus, Tomb Raider 9 happens to have the best gun recoil and enemies' response to bullet impact too. Still one of my favourite video games to this day.

Her soft voice really don't match this kind of gameplay, you made her look tough and a lot closer to the classic Lara that we all adore, but that voice of the tender and "vulnerable" Lara ruined it. That "What the H***" at 2:50 sounded wrong after her annihilating a small army

I'm currently playing Uncharted 1 for the first time because of all the hype, and of course, it provided the model for this reboot. But I'm really struggling to find much appeal in the situation and characters. It's so determinedly light and "fun," I just can't get into it. I'm hoping the subsequent games have a little more depth. The Tomb Raider reboot grabbed me instantly. Gripping story, great character arc. I wish the movie based on the game had actually taken a look at the game. They could have learned something about character development. Like, for example, maybe include some character development.
Admittedly, the Tomb Raider reboot could have used a few more jokes.

@@rottensquid For me to like a game, a game has to have amazing gameplay mechanics and the gameplay in TR is superior to Uncharted in my opinion. I have always believed that video games are art because of great gameplay and not stories.

@@brucew565 I mean, if that's what you're in it for, then I reckon Uncharted it more your game. Though I think "great" is a term up for conjecture. Does that mean more challenging, like Dark Souls, or just deeper, like the Arkham games, or Ghost of Tsushima? On the latter measure, I found TR 1 to be vastly superior game play compared to Uncharted 1 with its single mechanic of cover-shooting, and rudimentary puzzles. But Uncharted is from a previous generation, so that's not a level playing field. I haven't played Uncharted 2-4 yet. Will have to see if it outclasses TR.
Regardless, I'm playing through Red Dead Redemption 2, and the game play is so crude, it's absurd. Funny thing is, no one cares, least of all me. RDR isn't so much a "game" as a vast collection of activities wrapped in a story. It requires no real skill beyond the basic point and shoot. So by the standards you describe, it's not as good as Uncharted either. Though I think a lot of folk would disagree.
Personally, the game experience I'm looking for isn't necessarily the same as a movie experience, but a deep dive into a character's shoes. That's why Uncharted's light, fun characters didn't grab me, but the TR Reboot's Lara did. I was enthralled by her terrifying experience, and thrilled to develop mastery of the game as she developed mastery of her situation. The story isn't exactly Shakespeare, but it takes me on an emotional rollercoaster for the simple reason that game play directly connects me to the character I'm playing. Because I'm playing as Lara, her experience feels like it's happening to me. Her triumphs are mine. And that's an experience no movie can create. It's not that I'm looking for story over game play. I need them both, working together, to create a true gaming experience. Neither aspect need be perfect, but a unified whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
