For the gal who diffuses essential oils for her cat allergies, we have to remember our pets are ALSO (far more so) sensitive to smells. For instance, peppermint and citrus can be in fact, toxic to kitties. Birds, also are extremely sensitive. Our pets of all kinds are really effected by all smells. Just a little reminder so we’re thinking of all of our critters at home along side us, and not intentionally doing harm to our favorite babies. :)

Story 1, the parentification jumped out at me. Crying to her daughter, making her keep secrets, etc. I also was a parent to my parent in a different situation growing up, so I totally get it, when your parent has no one to talk to and isn’t mentally healthy, it happens. It’s just really sad. 😭

THANK YOU. Despite the sympathetic light the daughter paints the mother in, I wanted to slap the stupid out of that pathetic disloyal woman for what she was doing to them, and the absolute NERVE she has to see herself as a victim instead of getting a damn job and trying to make up for what she did to them like an adult. I'm not sad, I'm angry. She's lucky she didn't get divorced and disowned, because that is what she deserved at the time.
I was that for my mother as well, though at least in her case I was a too smart for my age kid who pried info out of her and was always trying to give advice, so it was hard for her not to especially with my dad being abusive, but it's still not right... And this woman... she sounds like she had everything and still infantilized herself, used her daughter and husband, and then played victim. The daughter clearly doesn't even realize just how bad her mother is, ether. I myself couldn't see the negative influence my mom had on me until I moved far away and didn't have my parents in my life much for years. Then I started to realize that while my dad was worse than my mom in a way due to unwarranted aggression and over reactions, she could be so emotionally manipulative, dishonest, and had a victim complex to where everything was always someone else's fault. Seeing my dad as the enemy and my mom as the ally led to me taking on a lot of those same attitudes and behaviors and I'm so lucky I escaped that. I love them both, but damn... parents mess us up in ways we aren't even aware of if we don't distance ourselves.

That hit me too, asking her daughter if she’s a bad mom because she’s not good at selling candles was like a punch in the gut.
You should never put your kid in that position 🙁

    • @angelofdusk13
      @angelofdusk13 ปีที่แล้ว +19

THIS! It hurt listening to it because I grew up the same way. I think there's also some emotional incest in there--parents should NOT be seeking reassurance from their kids. If they wonder if they're a bad parent, they should talk to another adult--namely, their PARTNER. And "don't tell Dad" is SUCH a red flag for emotional incest, it creates a level of intimacy between parent and child that is not healthy 🚩🚩🚩

the worst part is mlms convince people to lie to their partners because "don't ask them they wont support you, so just do it and don't tell them until after you are making bank". the fact that she told her husband years later after her daughter explained why mlms are terrible, breaks me. Imagine how confused the husband was with all the money that seemingly vanished, their arguments about money, loosing two homes, her guilt, him not even realizing how she had been taken advantage of.
It seems their marriage survived, but so many marriages, relationships and families are irreparably broken because of things like this.

Story 1 is why I watch anti-MLM. I am also a stay at home mum with a disability (with cognitive issues). I know I am a vulnerable target. I also have an Autistic child so that seems to add a layer of vulnerability. So, I try to stay informed on the companies and the tactics used by Huns to suck people in.

My grandma has been using oils my whole life so that story didn’t sound that weird. I think some older people believe in oils as even her mom and sisters do it too. We always get told different oils to help with things (not all medical). Story 3 gives me an idea of how to break up your 900+ email stack! Maybe there needs to be another category of series to give ex-mlm reps a place to share how they were simultaneously victims and perpetrators. It could give some hope to those scared to leave that they have a "soft place to land" and some catharsis to those they have wronged.

Knowing that her parents have financially recovered and are still together- “Monica” and LuLaRoe could have and would happily have destroyed all that just to make one more sale.

At a convention they held, one of the "participants" literally fell to the floor and "paramedics" arrived to rush him to the hospital, but the mlm leader rubbed frankinsence on him as they wheeled him away. An hour later he strolled back in saying how he'd had a heart attack, but the doctors said the frankincense saved him! This was in LA and right away I knew no one gets out of the ER that fast. I ran far away and never looked back.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I also wanted to add in my two cents on the essential oil face steaming thing. Never been a part of an mlm and I don't consider myself a crunchy person. But growing up my mom used to do the bowl of steaming water (no essential oils) with towels thing when we were sick. It helped with congestion. As an adult I add the tiniest amount of like a peppermint oil to the water as it feels nice to breath in. I completely agree that the mlm woman should not be claiming it cures anything. I only do it in small amounts to feel nice when I feel super shitty while sick. Again I don't think it has any medicinal properties and it is just something that I find pleasant in small amounts. It definitely sounds like the mlm woman was telling her to add tons of oils in order to sell more and that was way too much for something like this.

The smallest of drops to "scent" the water Is probably harmless. However just make sure its a good quality oil and research to make sure the oil isn't labeled as an irritant. My grandmother used rose water for her congestion. But I can tell you from experience eucalyptus oil should NOT be inhaled

    • @ANPC-pi9vu
      @ANPC-pi9vu ปีที่แล้ว +1

Agreed. And these kids might have had pneumonia based on how hard it was to breath, and this actually makes pneumonia worse because your enflamed and blocked up air sacks are already having a hard enough time absorbing oxygen without having water and oil droplets added to the mix. A low dose steroid and expectorant are what you need for that. People need to take their damn kids to doctors.

I received a message almost immediately after one of my posts. She sold do terra essential oils and said that with the right essential oils I could heal and not need surgery. If I didn't have this surgery I would've died from the condition that was making me sick. If I was gullible and decided to use essential oils instead of proper medical care I would've died. These people have no clue how dangerous it is to claim that their oils or supplements or whatever bullshit they sell will heal medical conditions that need medical care from a doctor. I responded to this woman and told her the claims she was making was dangerous and that she could do severe damage to anyone that is suffering from medical conditions that need medical care from an actual doctor. Omigosh; I had a similar experience. I was going to have my first spinal surgery a couple years back. I was so relieved because my life had come to feel like a long dark tunnel with no light at the end. Now that I finally had answers, I was hoping to get some relief. Then a FB friend offered unsolicited advice, telling me that I should go with more natural options rather than my scheduled surgery. I explained that vitamins, oils, etc wouldn’t fix my C1-C2 instability, which was literally blocking blood flow to my brain when I turned my head. She kept pushing until I had to ask her to stop. She got offended and told me that I would regret it when my doctors made me sicker. Then, like in your experience, I was blocked and defriended.
I don’t know if she and her nurse practitioner were selling anything, but she definitely overreacted to me making a decision for my health and telling her to stop pushing natural medicine on me.
I’m sorry you’ve had the same experience. It was definitely a bit jarring to see a story so similar to mine… even up to blocking the surgical patient on FB.
Anyway, I hope that you are doing well post-op bad that you realize that you deserve better that the that so-called friend

Information from the Thermofisher laboratory shown under shows what hazard to physiological system terpenes like limonene could cause: ---- Please do not "treat" unconsenting children with terpenes like this.
    Respiratory sensitization, category 1
    Germ cell mutagenicity, categories 1A,1B,2

I used to work for a company that would act as a payment (almost like a bank) system for these MLMs and I can tell you almost no one is making money. There is even this company called Plexus that would charge their users monthly to hold an account with us, and it paid probably the worst out of most companies. If you didn’t have enough money to pay for the monthly fee, your account would go into the negatives so people were using their $2 monthly earnings to pay off the fee from the account. Basically, they ended up owing instead of earning.

I have multiple friends selling monat. (I’ve had bad experiences with the company as a 1 time customer, and I have never been interested in supporting it again.)
I’ve heard them say things about the products that have no real scientific grounding, and also attempt to explain away the horrible situations so many people have faced.
I have ALSO had one of them explain how one of the company’s top sellers made it to the top…. And it was extremely illegal and unethical.
I want to support my friends. I want them to be motivated and successful. These companies are NOT something I can support and it’s so upsetting to see them get sucked in

I’ve never understood why these companies can’t just sell their products in stores like every other company out there. But hearing you say that the main objective to MLMs is recruiting, then that makes sense as to why they are MLMs and not just in stores.
Some companies do have good products, like Tupperware, it lasts forever, unlike all the store bought storage containers.
And I like the two craft stamp companies I know about, and their products. One stamp MLMs just decided to close and now all of their people are devastated. Which is sad for them.
But, as a customer, I’ve been frustrated at the push for new products every year, or every few months. One barely has time to make something out of their latest products, before new stuff comes out. It’s hard to keep up with. And other companies do it too, not just MLMs. One of my favorite companies is re-releasing older products, which is so refreshing! It means I’m not tempted to buy, if I have the items already, and that I have another chance to buy if I want an item that was discontinued before I knew about it. And this idea makes sense as there are so many more customers now then even 10 and more years ago. Just change up the pretty papers and create new ideas with the existing products. Thankfully I’ve gotten away from the constant buying. One just can’t keep up!

  • @annihilxte

These videos are an amazing way to help spread awareness about MLMs. My favorite aunt is unfortunately involved in Doterra and my mom always buys the oils to “not be a bitch” but it’s like now that she’s bought probably at least a grand worth of oils from her in the last 8 years, I had seen her waste enough money. I made sure to keep telling her that she isn’t being rude by not buying them, just tell her you can’t afford to drop money on stuff that isn’t a necessity for you or our family. I wish I knew when I was younger what was going on because it was only in the last couple years that I was finally able to convince my mom not to buy any more as it’s a MLM. She has a hard time saying no so it makes her an easy target to sell the products to, but luckily now she knows that it isn’t a good business. I said, I mean if you want to get essential oils get a few on Etsy or something from a small business… not a “boss babe”.

I remember taking Shaklee vitamins as a kid back in the early-to-mid 90’s. My mom bought them from a lady who went to our church. I took the children’s chewable lemon-flavored vitamins, and yes, they were disgusting. And they turned my toothbrush yellow. I’m guessing the adult vitamins were pretty gross as well, because my mom opened a bottle of one when she first got them and had me smell it, and it smelled so terrible that I pretended to pass out.

The Shaklee vitamins story reminds me as a kid a lady at church sold Shaklee, which were very expensive. And yes, they tasted awful. One day, my mom found out about Standard Process vitamins and supplements which were also more than the standard store vitamins, but way less than Shaklee. I’ve taken them over the years ensuing, glad to be away from the Shaklee scammers.

I show up to every interview with my hair styled in at least a sleek ponytail and a suit jacket and dress pants and nice blouse, along with a nice folder to carry my resume and a few spare copies lol. When I was a teenager a couple at my church that my mom really admired were Shaklee reps, and fell for their pitch. This was in the 70's, so they didn't have the gummies the author of this letter described. There were certainly pills to swallow, however, and many cleaning products. Mom bought those, too. I am not sure how long this went on until she stopped. She never joined thankfully.

The person who sent in Story 3 must have done a lot of self-introspection & real personal development (not the kind that's just mlm self-help brainwashing) to be able to call herself the bad guy & admit she knowingly helped in a scam bc she was desperately lonely & vulnerable. Although it can't undo what's already been done, her story is still a great testimony of how fake these amazing 'before and after' results probably always are. Hopefully it helps more people stay skeptical and wary of all the miracle product bullsht these huns peddle.

I'm not entirely sure why my brain didn't think this through. My interviewer asked me, at the end of the interview, if I was okay getting dirty and I was so confused by the question, until he said "well you dressed so nicely...." and I was super embarrassed.
