- This is the second video in the series about creating a stunt bike out of a cheap FXDX that I found. This video shows the disassembly of the front end with a bit more in-depth look on what is required to disassemble a Harley Davidson FXDX Dyna cartridge front fork assembly. I tried to use tools that were either readily available to most home mechanics, easy to create, or cheap and readily available at harbor freight so that people that aren't doing this professionally don't need to go buy specialty tools that they may use only once or twice.
The music used in this video was with permission and created by an awesome local Casper Wyoming punk band called System Restore. Go check them out and support them on your preferred platform. Not only do they make great music, but they are also super nice people that have been doing their part keeping the music scene alive in Wyoming for years.

This whole DX series is awesome man! Really hard to find videos of people actually taking the DX forks apart, so this is super helpful. Was going to send mine out to have them rebuilt, but after watching this I will definitely do it myself. Cheers!
Thanks man keep it up! your the only person that dose a step by step on how to disassemble a fxdx cartridge
Thanks for the support my dude!!! I'm getting everything back from powder coating this afternoon so I'll have a re-assembly video very soon
Beast mode!!! Keep it up homie!!
Thanks my man!!!
Appreciate this bro. Gotta do them on my 01 DX. Glad they arent a complicated headache. Just bought the seal kits today and ill tear into this weekend. Putting a racetech spring in as well.
Hell yah man thats awesome, feel free to reach out if you have any questions and I will do what I can to help you out with it!!!
Good content dude! This looks like you 100th video not your first!
Thank you very much Sean, you rock dude
How would you clean the inside of the bottom fork tubes?
I have a solvent tank that I put them in as long as they don't have some sort of coating that may be damaged. You can also spray brakleen in there and wipe them out with a rag a few times, I do that as well and it works great.
This is a FANTASTIC video, well placed humor and ad-libs really make it a good and informational time! I'me ReBuilding a set of fxdx forks on my 02. I wanted to ask what rebuild kit you would recommend?
im replacing the drain washers for sure, most rebuild kits have different bolts and a not the banjo that i just pulled out of mine. im also noticing parts that regular dyna forks use that the fxdx dont.
great content, ive been posting the link to your channel on fb and ig groups as well.
thank you much and looking forward to your build!
Amazing video. How much oil you put back in when rebuilding? What kind of oil?
I forget off the top of my head since this was a few years back.
Any difference between the 1200s and Dyna? Springs I’m referring to? I picked up one of these front end recently and the gentleman didn’t know exactly what it came off of, I used it on a 06 Lowrider and it seems awful soft? Wondering if it indeed was off of a sportster or if they are the same? Thank you
Yes they are different, the dyna is roughly 100 lbs heavier than the sporty so they will be valved and sprung heavier on the DX. The sportster front end will also be 2 inches shorter than the DX if I remember correctly. I think the DX is 32.5 inches from center of axle to the top of the tube unloaded, so if it’s 30.5ish it’s off a 1200s.
@@urbanassaultmedia1543 thank you for info. Going to check in a bit
@@urbanassaultmedia1543 yea just checked it’s 31.5” which race tech says should be 820mm which is 32.25… mine are for sporty… but race tech saying they can make a spring for it work. Better spend 110.00 than 750/800.00 on a used front end.
what size is the top fork nut? 1-3/8? Doing mine, ty
