40 plus years ago I met my husband were both 30. We weren't looking for love. He is from Tennessee so it had a special meaning for me. We danced to this song and fell in love. We are in our 70's now and still in love.
RIP Dave Loggins, singer of "Please Come to Dallas in November" that he wrote back in October 1963 at the request of the CIA. He later changed the words to mention Boston and it was a hit almost ten years later.
Why is it we can't go back to music written, played and sung like this? What a time to be alive. Too bad today's youth don't have songs lie this to inspire them.
This is so beautiful I used to travel with my dad cross country every summer the day school let out my daddy was right out front in the big rig. and I heard this song and fell in love with it😃after listening 2 times I began to cry cuz I really miss my daddy Ty for this cuz I traveled all over the united States I have SOOOO many great memories..... thanks again!!! BEAUTIFUL 💖
A friend of mine recorded this song in the 70s. His name was BW Stevens. He has been gone for a while now. Beautiful voice. They both have great voices. Well done.
@@sally5591 I also think it's Loggins' voice and the feeling of being alone and this girl which he loves not wanting to leave her home.. he wants her to accompany him; she doesn't want to leave her home...so sad...
I don't know about you, but I'm 52 now-- I still miss my "home" and my friends and my childhood and my first love and all the innocence that was back then. For me, this song was hugely emotional-- even as a kid I knew it was important.... to love and care and hurt like this. From the gut. I get it now, and I bawl every time too. Sometimes, in this awful world we've found ourselves in, it's just good to bawl; wash away...
Awesome song. I am lucky enough to have enjoyed the 1970's and its splendid music. I love reading the nice comments. What really affects me is when I see comments from teenagers that express that they lived through the 70's. It validates the fact that there was indeed magic on the air back then.
David is remembered best for this 1974 song, which was number 5 among popular music and number 1 for Easy Listening in the U.S. David was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame during 1995. David is the second cousin of singer/songwriter Kenny Loggins.
I was at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernadino waiting for a flight to Okinawa with the Marine Corps. I had just called my 18 yr old girl back home in West Virginia. Asked her to come to Los Angels and get married. I would have deserted the Marine Corps just to marry her. But she said no. Needless to say she wrote me a "Dear John Letter" 3 months later. No problem with that now, Ive been married for 37 yrs. The old girlfriend has been married 4 times.
This song has endured, a true classic........It is still beautiful and those of us growing up in that time were so blessed and we thought we would be young forever.........He also wrote another beautiful song, "Pieces of April"....
What a wonderful song. The millions of people that bought it back in '74 must have thought so, too. It's one of those songs that when you first hear it, you know it's gonna' be a hit. 🎶
Gonna be 50 this November. Listening to this song, and others recommended from the late 60's and early seventies when I was just a little kid brings tears to my eyes. It was a wonderful time to be alive.
I'm 52 now but I still love these sweet melodies from the 70's. They remind me of my wonderful childhood and my parents playing music in the station wagon.
From a Bostonian all I can say is that this place is magical when you get to experience all the seasons with everything within a hours drive. (ocean, mountains, meadows, valley's and forests)
Phil Lecompte ...........agreed........way to much hip hop crap and grabbing their crotch....this piece, on the other hand, is music...I give it a 9.5 on a scale of 10...
Dave, and I can call him that he always put it out there in the spotlight and made sure that his fan's thought he was singing just to them individually and connecting with the whole audience. Always made sure when you left his show you would get home and tell who ever you you encountered just how amazing the last couple of hours were.
As a person who has Travelled around the world and I'v had many an GF and plenty of these type of conversations ..I can really relate to this Brilliant song..P.S..My ex who I have always remained friends with, today asked me to marry her.!!!..Decision,decisions.. .
Great song! Brings back memories from driving back and forth from Syracuse, NY to Roanoke, VA when I was a kid. This song would play on the radio back in '75.
Thanks for the Memories...I saw Dave in Chattanooga in late 70's, for some reason the stage lost all power, and at first it was announced the concert was over but Loggins insisted they keep working, finally got 2 mic's working and he dragged out a stool and finished the concert with an acoustic guitar without the band...and it was AWESOME, I will never forget how this artist was determined to give us the show we paid for and did it with class!
Absolutely...for a while there I ventured into listening to Country but when the likes of Garth and Alan Jackson retired somewhat out of the industry, I flipped back to listening to the soft rock of the 70's and 80's as the Country artist became repetitive...same old song, me my girl my pickup down by the river yadayadayadayada...the good Country went away. Now it is all Journey, Richard Marx, Air Supply, Lionel Ritchie and so on...
Thank you very much Michlimania. Sorry to hear of your friends passing, must be very hard to deal with. I have loved this song myself since I was a young man. I am happy was able to stir your memorirs a bit with the song post. The tears we shed show the effects of true friendship. Peace to you~~~~Rod
Gonna be 55 this May, wow....time flies....The 70's were such a sweet and wonderful time, I wouldn't trade em for anything. It was a great time to be a teenager.
Yendor61--Agreed! Great song and great video. Don't know WHY anyone would give this a thumbs down? People like me are still enjoying your talents almost a decade later. :)
Thanks Diane, im glad to be able to introduce you to this classic from the past. Has always been one of my favorite ballads, one that seemed to have gotten lost in time. Wish you a happy and peaceful Easter...And thanks again...Rod
i was a tween when this came out. i remembered it. married my first husband who was 12 years older. turned me on to this. my kids ate lucky. my oldest is 3e and he loves the song as do my 13 and 14 year old daughters. Thank you for sharing your happiness with us.
That is so beautiful!
oh shit, that's beautiful. Goosebumps.
Beautiful
How lucky were we to grow up with such beautiful & timeless music?!?
We've certainly been lucky to have been able to listen to these songs as long if not longer than any one else has.
Cool Cat yes we was lucky
david loggins.
Yes, we indeed fortunate.
We have this beautiful song to remind of us of our youth instead of some hip hop BS
Agree 100%
I fell in love to this song. He was my man from Tennessee.
No theatrics needed for classic songs like this. Just pure raw talent at its finest.

Ahhhh what beautiful lyrics , nice backing vocals on this track , love this song ;D
Rest In Peace, Dave Loggins. Thank you for the great music of my youth!
What a voice. He sang this song with his voice cracking in different spots. It still gives me chills after all the these years. Classic
p Engle He wrote and sang many great songs!
Hauntingly Beautiful
So sad but a beautiful song!
Why oh why do I cry when I listen to this beautiful, sad song...i've never been in this predicament...ever.
Me too... I don't know, some of the lyrics are relatable, but it seems to be more of the feeling it gives.
@@sally5591 I also think it's Loggins' voice and the feeling of being alone and this girl which he loves not wanting to leave her home.. he wants her to accompany him; she doesn't want to leave her home...so sad...
@@mccellen Definitely, and there was no compromise, although he tried.

Lyrics are exquisite. I miss those days.

This song has endured, a true classic........It is still beautiful and those of us growing up in that time were so blessed and we thought we would be young forever.........He also wrote another beautiful song, "Pieces of April"....
Beautiful voice. I missed this one.
My best friend and I were inseparable but lost track of eachother. She was frm Boston.
It was the summer of 1974 in New York, the best summer of my life at age 17. This was by far the best song released that year-so beautiful!🌄
This is probably my favorite song of all time. How I love it and cry when I hear it. I love this guy's voice so much.
I meant to say that its nice when teenagers TODAY comment that they WISH they could have enjoyed the 70's as I did because of its great music.
What a wonderful song. The millions of people that bought it back in '74 must have thought so, too. It's one of those songs that when you first hear it, you know it's gonna' be a hit. 🎶
The best childhood summer I ever had the summer this song played on my radio...memorized every word

For sure! Riding in the back seat not buckled up, fighting with siblings, listening to great music!
It makes me cry when he sings "please come to LA to live forever"
From a Bostonian all I can say is that this place is magical when you get to experience all the seasons with everything within a hours drive. (ocean, mountains, meadows, valley's and forests)
They don, t write them like this anymore.
Not to many bands write there own music .
Phil Lecompte ...........agreed........way to much hip hop crap and grabbing their crotch....this piece, on the other hand, is music...I give it a 9.5 on a scale of 10...

Nothing like the '70's music lovely memories and songs that actually touched your heart!!!!
one of my favorite songs f all times
One of my all time favorites
am gold, remember hearing this as a young kid and it broke my heart then and it still does
Another great oldie. Where have the years gone? lol
I ask myself that same question all the time. Time is passing by faster than i can keep up with and i'm really not sure why.
Sometimes I wonder where the last 40 years have gone. I am not sure, but they sure went. Like they say, like a blink of the eye.
Sometimes I wonder where the last 40 years have gone. I am not sure, but they sure went. Like they say, like a blink of the eye.
We're getting old? lol
Exactly. I'm 61, and honestly I cannot believe it. I still feel like I'm only 30. But these old songs make me feel young again!
Such a classic. This song never gets old.
It touches my heart, so deeply..
.
Thanks to all who keep the 70s alive I think it lives inside the deepest parts of one's soul we are blessed to have lived it.
I just didn't appreciate it, in hindsight. Sure have messed up so times, so many regrets. Sometimes the aren't second chances.

As purely bittersweet as lyrics can get.

Great song! Brings back memories from driving back and forth from Syracuse, NY to Roanoke, VA when I was a kid. This song would play on the radio back in '75.
I am in Yorktown, but Roanoke and western Virginia is one of the prettiest places I have been to ... west Virginia is also beautiful.
18winsagin Then you never seen the high country of Idaho, rolling Hills compared to mountains and yes there is a difference.
I knew Dave when this song was born. The photos nailed it. Im happy it won a grammy. Sometimes you wish on a star and I always wanted to go to Boston
