In “The Naked and the Dead” Medic says that he is a doctor and that no one will die on his operating table. -None of the TF2 or TFC (not counting TFC heavy) mercs have died under his care (except Sniper but he’s ok now) or due to his experiments -He has at least some medical knowledge, mentioning blood types, and in “Meet the Medic” he has various medical equipment that he presumably knows how to operate correctly -He does not operate on noncombatants (that we know of) -People he operates on assumedly have given consent to be operated on (maybe not knowing what they’re getting put inside them, but I digress) -I speculate that he does indeed use some form of pain inhibitor because in “Meet the Medic” the Heavy is awake but in no apparent pain until he breaks his own rib Just a few things I thought I’d add to show that he’s not _that_ insane. The source for the "Medic is not a nazi" quote is Robin Walker (lead designer for TF2) himself, when somebody got a tour of Valve while Meet the Medic was in production. They shared their intel on the Facepunch forums, which are down for good, but I recovered the archive and shared it on r/tf2. I don't think I can share links, but if you search for something like "robin walker medic nazi" on the TF2 subreddit, you should be able to find it, posted by the same username as the one here. "Oh yeah, almost forgot about Robin's answer to one of the great mysteries of the Medic: He's not a Nazi. Not because of controversy or anything, but because it would be easy and boring to slap the 'Nazi' label on the Medic rather than trying to go for a truly interesting psychotic German doctor they're establishing." Personally, I love the Medic. I'm quarter German, so a lot of what the Medic says makes me think of my great grandparents and great uncles. I had a great uncle of German parents who actually fought Nazis, so there's that. Einstein was German, nutty, and lovable. Besides, one of Medic's best friends is the Russian Heavy. Considering he didn't flee to South America (a lot of Nazis did) and that Heavy is one of his best buddies, most likely he's NOT a Nazi.

I know I'm a little late to the party but I'd also like to point out one of Medic's in Game Voice lines is "Teeeaaaammmm!!!" which is a reference from an old Comedy TV Show Hogan's Heroes that ran from 1965-1971. It's an American Show that takes place in a Nazi P.O.W. prison and focuses on Stalag 13 [a camp set aside for U.S. resistance fighters] It's overseen by the strict but bumbling Col. Klink [who is a Nazi]. So, if Medic is making references to a show, he must enjoy this show which makes a fool out of Nazis. Thus, I can make the likely assumption he was not a Nazi but most likely part of the resistance if anything.
What I think: It is confirmed by Valve he isn't a Nazi and that he would've been a teenager by the time of WW2. Many people have pointed out he speaks German in a Yiddish tone, this could mean he is Jewish. If so he COULD've been one of the many Jewish doctors who were forced to do experiments in the camps. This could be why he is the way he is. But again he was a teen so I assume he was in an Underground German revolt. Why? because that would explain why he is quite insane, and how he got his experience. He is from Southern Germany so he could've been apart of a German Resistance group. The reason why I'm not inclined toward him being a Nazi is pretty simple. Medic's concept of superior beings is not based on birth and inherent superiority, but instead on effort and work. His creating things like the Ubercharge are applied to people not considered part of the "master race" by Nazi standards- the first recipient of the Ubercharge being Heavy, who is Russian. This is something people forget, that Nazis didn't ONLY hate Jews. They also hated Slavic groups, especially the Polish and Russians and considered them subhuman and worthy of conquest, enslavement, and/or extermination. On top of that, if we're using other things aside from characterization, the music Medic is associated with is in Klezmer style ("Archimedes" is the most obvious, but it's also in "A Little Heart to Heart"). Klezmer is originally a style from Ashkenazi Jews.
To me, he probably joined the Nazis only for the medical resource they provided him, not for the ideology, bc if it were so he would be a lot more reluctant of giving the ubercharges to foreigners.

I think that medic may have fought in WW2 as a medic, considering he has the white stahlhelm with the Red Cross on it, but saying that he was a nazi would be a bit of a stretch considering he had little to no medical training, therefore he would not have served in the SS, which required you to be a nazi and medically skilled if you were going to be a medic, and really the only other option would have been the Wehrmacht, which most that served in the Wehrmacht were not nazis and were just drafted, so there is a good chance that medic was not a nazi, but hey, that’s just a theory, A GAME THEORY.

I know this is kinda old but he 100% isn't a psychopath. He is capable of caring about other living creatures, seeing as he used expensive body parts he even admits to struggling to get to revive Sniper, not to mention refusing to let Sniper go back into fighting. Plus, he shows genuine distress about Archimedes being killed, showing he does care about the bird, at the very least. And it is incredibly likely he is friends with Heavy, given in game stuff, shorts and comics. Also, psychopaths appear 'normal' and 'sane', pretending to care about others. They aren't impulsive nor likely to do illegal or dangerous actions because they aren't impulsive or emotionally driven like sociopaths. Given Medic caring for certain, few people, his ability to recognise when he's messed up (he makes excuses after betraying Sniper, implying he knows it was bad) and his impulsive and dangerous behaviour, it's far more likely he's a sociopath (I'm not a professional, this is from my own personal online research I have done cuz special interests go brrrr)
Scout's couldnt have been a hallucination as God resurrected him into perfect health. And seeing as Scout was able to go to heavan at all I find it far more likely that Medic took the classic team's souls rather than the modern team's souls.

I like to think that Medic has a similar backstory to Dr. Edward Richtofen from Call of Duty. They most likely only joined the German war effort to satiate their blood lust.

I never considered WW2 German soldiers as Nazis, just foot soldiers who either agreed or disagreed with the ideaology, Nazis where the SS and those in higher up ranks.
Even the "footsoldiers" in the SS didn't have to be Nazis. If you looked the type, they wanted you for the SS (SS men were prefered to be particularly intimidating and arian-looking) and they would conscript you into it. A lot of the higher ups were insane Nazis, but even among the higher ranks you had people who disagreed with the ideology but were to scared to challenge the system.

Well, given the fact the he has a lot of parallels with Joseph Mengele (That one Nazi who did some pretty gruesome shit on people at Auschwitz), plus the fact that he had a military cap, and his incredible technology, I think he served in the German Army as a medic, but his psychopathic tendencies meant that he took the chance whenever he could to experiment on the people he treated, while he also innovated some incredible healing technology. The human experimentation part basically made him a war criminal on both sides of WW2, but afterwards he managed to cover this up and end up with the whole skeleton thing happening he lost any kind of license he MAY have had, and went into hiding. Somewhere in between, he steals the catering van, and eventually gets hired, continuing to defy modern medicine, and international law.

I mean, look at Joseph Mengele, I'm sure that the dude had some morbid feelings even before he was in WW II, but decided to act upon those feelings when he was in the military. My point being that Medic is pretty similar to Joseph Mengele, and other Nazi doctors, except for two important thing. He was in purely for the research, and his research was more successful than other doctors' research (I mean he has a device that can heal your wounds in the matter of seconds, regardless of severity, he can turn you impervious to bullets with the same device, and he can bring you back to life, even if you are clinically dead for a long time)
Medic is definetly an interesting character. He's unpredictable, ruthless, and insane, but not totally evil. Him and Heavy are great friends (that also kinda confirms that Medic is not a nazi cause I don't think that Heavy would've friend with him) and we can see that he actually like the other ones. He's way more serious than the soldier and one of the smartest person in the crew. I think he would never kill his team because he always tought that they are friends, but that's justa theory.

If you read/watched the comics, you would know that the threat of making tfc heavy have baboons babies was true, but distracted him with a pen instead of the real thing, he states, "I just didn't have enough time to get to my medkit."

Actually...he didn't sell all of their souls. The first deal Medic made with the Devil states that the contract is legally binding if Medic has A soul. But as it turned out, he has 8 more souls, thus voiding the first contract. However, Medic does make a new deal; 50 more years to live so the Devil can have chances to gain all of his souls and sold HIS soul for a pen as insurance. He hasn't sold all of the souls nor do I believe he will. He likely took the souls as leverage in case he were to die or his comrades died (Ex. Sniper and Scout). He'll likely give those souls back and in 50 years when he dies again, he'll either bullshit his way out again or he'll be the only one going to hell. I know it's a bit of a stretch, but this is Medic we're talking about here. xD

Nah. Medic most probably is a psychopath, meaning he lacks empathy and human emotions, he has no respect for human dignity and he never feels guilty after causing pain. He's a doctor not because he wants to help anyone, he's a doctor because he's morbidly curious, he loves experimenting. It is literally said that the healing part of his actions is just an unintended side effect of him satisfying his curiosity through medical experiments. He feels no remorse when he finds out that the TFC will hunt down his old Team (theoretically "friends") saying that it will be a perfect oppurtunity to test out his newest creations on the old ones (he treats his old team only as experiments) and he does that with a smug/evil grin. When the TFC team alongside with Medic meet the TF2 Team he smiles evily and that's the last image Sniper sees before he bleeds to death. Medic later ressurects the Sniper, but did he do it because he liked Sniper or he felt guilty? Probably not. He did it to test out his possibilities, to find out if he can bring a man who's been dead for 12 hours back to life. Later he is completely ready to go with TFC Heavy to kill the TF2 team, he seem so happy to finally do some field work, nevermind that he's going to be killing his ex friends. But the TFC Heavy breaks his Medigun, and tells him to stay put, he calls him a nurse and makes it clear that the Medic will no longer be able to do what he wants, only what he's told to. That pisses him off. He decides to betray the TFC team, helping the TF2 Team probably was just one way to do it. Surprisingly, it wasn't even TFC Heavy killing Archimedes that pissed off the Medic. He was perfectly fine and was ready to go fight alongisde him, despite the man just killed his beloved dove. It was the lack of respect that made him betray the bastard. To me it seems like he never treated them as friends. After he comes back to life and revenges his own death, he tells Heavy that it's good to be back. But that's probably because he know that in TF2 team he is respected and he can do whatever experiments he likes. Unlike in TFC team where he was being hold back. Not to mention that he stole his "friends'" souls. I don't know how it works in TF universe, but usually if you don't have soul you can't go to Heaven or something, right? So did he stole his friends' chance of happy afterlife? Idk, Scou went to Heaven. But he was apparently God's personal gift to humanity, kinda like Jesus. And all this could just be Scout's hallucinations. So who knows. The field mountain cap is actually the M43 Field cap which means he was in ww2. He either was a combat medic or he was working as a doctor behind the friendly frontlines. The Prussian Pickelhaube might be his father's WW1 helmet.
I think Medic likely did attend medical school. As his fascination with bodies, humans and alike would likely need further education and I honestly believe he would've excelled. Yet the things he actually did got his license revoked.

I know I'm a little late to the party but I'd also like to point out one of Medic's in Game Voice lines is "Teeeaaaammmm!!!" which is a reference from an old Comedy TV Show Hogan's Heroes that ran from 1965-1971. It's an American Show that takes place in a Nazi P.O.W. prison and focuses on Stalag 13 [a camp set aside for U.S. resistance fighters] It's overseen by the strict but bumbling Col. Klink [who is a Nazi]. So, if Medic is making references to a show, he must enjoy this show which makes a fool out of Nazis. Thus, I can make the likely assumption he was not a Nazi but most likely part of the resistance if anything.
What I think: It is confirmed by Valve he isn't a Nazi and that he would've been a teenager by the time of WW2. Many people have pointed out he speaks German in a Yiddish tone, this could mean he is Jewish. If so he COULD've been one of the many Jewish doctors who were forced to do experiments in the camps. This could be why he is the way he is. But again he was a teen so I assume he was in an Underground German revolt. Why? because that would explain why he is quite insane, and how he got his experience. He is from Southern Germany so he could've been apart of a German Resistance group. I think he is a Jewish Doctor who ended up going insane.

The reason why I'm not inclined toward him being a Nazi is pretty simple. Medic's concept of superior beings is not based on birth and inherent superiority, but instead on effort and work.
His creating things like the Ubercharge are applied to people not considered part of the "master race" by Nazi standards- the first recipient of the Ubercharge being Heavy, who is Russian. This is something people forget, that Nazis didn't ONLY hate Jews. They also hated Slavic groups, especially the Polish and Russians and considered them subhuman and worthy of conquest, enslavement, and/or extermination.
On top of that, if we're using other things aside from characterization, the music Medic is associated with is in Klezmer style ("Archimedes" is the most obvious, but it's also in "A Little Heart to Heart"). Klezmer is originally a style from Ashkenazi Jews.

I know this is kinda old but he 100% isn't a psychopath.
He is capable of caring about other living creatures, seeing as he used expensive body parts he even admits to struggling to get to revive Sniper, not to mention refusing to let Sniper go back into fighting. Plus, he shows genuine distress about Archimedes being killed, showing he does care about the bird, at the very least. And it is incredibly likely he is friends with Heavy, given in game stuff, shorts and comics.
Also, psychopaths appear 'normal' and 'sane', pretending to care about others. They aren't impulsive nor likely to do illegal or dangerous actions because they aren't impulsive or emotionally driven like sociopaths.
Given Medic caring for certain, few people, his ability to recognise when he's messed up (he makes excuses after betraying Sniper, implying he knows it was bad) and his impulsive and dangerous behaviour, it's far more likely he's a sociopath

Even the "footsoldiers" in the SS didn't have to be Nazis. If you looked the type, they wanted you for the SS (SS men were prefered to be particularly intimidating and arian-looking) and they would conscript you into it.
A lot of the higher ups were insane Nazis, but even among the higher ranks you had people who disagreed with the ideology but were to scared to challenge the system.

I doubt medic is a nazi, at least currently. He’s very close friends with the heavy and heavy is Slavic and Nazism has an extreme hatred of Slavs.
Well, given the fact the he has a lot of parallels with Joseph Mengele (That one Nazi who did some pretty gruesome shit on people at Auschwitz), plus the fact that he had a military cap, and his incredible technology, I think he served in the German Army as a medic, but his psychopathic tendencies meant that he took the chance whenever he could to experiment on the people he treated, while he also innovated some incredible healing technology. The human experimentation part basically made him a war criminal on both sides of WW2, but afterwards he managed to cover this up and end up with the whole skeleton thing happening he lost any kind of license he MAY have had, and went into hiding. Somewhere in between, he steals the catering van, and eventually gets hired, continuing to defy modern medicine, and international law.

Well if the medic fought in WW2 then i imagine he got his insanity from there which means he fought on the eastern front.
Or he was morbidly curious and a bit insane even before he joined up. And the reason why he fought in WW II is because then he could fulfill his morbidity. I mean, look at Joseph Mengele, I'm sure that the dude had some morbid feelings even before he was in WW II, but decided to act upon those feelings when he was in the military.
My point being that Medic is pretty similar to Joseph Mengele, and other Nazi doctors, except for two important thing. He was in purely for the research, and his research was more successful than other doctors' research (I mean he has a device that can heal your wounds in the matter of seconds, regardless of severity, he can turn you impervious to bullets with the same device, and he can bring you back to life, even if you are clinically dead for a long time)

Medic is definetly an interesting character. He's unpredictable, ruthless, and insane, but not totally evil. Him and Heavy are great friends (that also kinda confirms that Medic is not a nazi cause I don't think that Heavy would've friend with him) and we can see that he actually like the other ones. He's way more serious than the soldier and one of the smartest person in the crew. I think he would never kill his team because he always tought that they are friends, but that's justa theory.

Actually...he didn't sell all of their souls. The first deal Medic made with the Devil states that the contract is legally binding if Medic has A soul. But as it turned out, he has 8 more souls, thus voiding the first contract. However, Medic does make a new deal; 50 more years to live so the Devil can have chances to gain all of his souls and sold HIS soul for a pen as insurance. He hasn't sold all of the souls nor do I believe he will. He likely took the souls as leverage in case he were to die or his comrades died (Ex. Sniper and Scout). He'll likely give those souls back and in 50 years when he dies again, he'll either bullshit his way out again or he'll be the only one going to hell. I know it's a bit of a stretch, but this is Medic we're talking about here. xD

I hope Valve confirms that Medic is not a Nazi, is in fact against them, and even experimented on them, just because Medic is a evil genius. I also want Medic to be against the Nazi's because personally on my family; my deceased great grandfather is German, and fought against the Nazi's.
5:17 I feel like he thinks that the best friends are experiments, since he could make them stronger and less likely to die, and that the best experiments are also friends, because that makes his experiments easier to do and better overall, since he can talk to them. Besides, what's the point in experimenting on people to make them stronger if you're not going to be friends with them? I like to think that he considers his teammates to be his best/most successful experiments and the ones that he's the most proud of because they're his friends and he gets to fight alongside them.
I don't know, I just like to think that Medic really does care about his teammates, he just has an odd way of showing it.

Nah. Medic most probably is a psychopath, meaning he lacks empathy and human emotions, he has no respect for human dignity and he never feels guilty after causing pain. He's a doctor not because he wants to help anyone, he's a doctor because he's morbidly curious, he loves experimenting. It is literally said that the healing part of his actions is just an unintended side effect of him satisfying his curiosity through medical experiments.
He feels no remorse when he finds out that the TFC will hunt down his old Team (theoretically "friends") saying that it will be a perfect oppurtunity to test out his newest creations on the old ones (he treats his old team only as experiments) and he does that with a smug/evil grin. When the TFC team alongside with Medic meet the TF2 Team he smiles evily and that's the last image Sniper sees before he bleeds to death. Medic later ressurects the Sniper, but did he do it because he liked Sniper or he felt guilty? Probably not. He did it to test out his possibilities, to find out if he can bring a man who's been dead for 12 hours back to life.
Later he is completely ready to go with TFC Heavy to kill the TF2 team, he seem so happy to finally do some field work, nevermind that he's going to be killing his ex friends. But the TFC Heavy breaks his Medigun, and tells him to stay put, he calls him a nurse and makes it clear that the Medic will no longer be able to do what he wants, only what he's told to. That pisses him off. He decides to betray the TFC team, helping the TF2 Team probably was just one way to do it.
Surprisingly, it wasn't even TFC Heavy killing Archimedes that pissed off the Medic. He was perfectly fine and was ready to go fight alongisde him, despite the man just killed his beloved dove. It was the lack of respect that made him betray the bastard.
To me it seems like he never treated them as friends. After he comes back to life and revenges his own death, he tells Heavy that it's good to be back. But that's probably because he know that in TF2 team he is respected and he can do whatever experiments he likes. Unlike in TFC team where he was being hold back.
Not to mention that he stole his "friends'" souls. I don't know how it works in TF universe, but usually if you don't have soul you can't go to Heaven or something, right? I like to imagine that Medic is actually a good guy (especially after the "Meet the Medic" outtakes), but in reality he is just a psychopath. He doesn't care about his old Teammates and is ready to kill them. What's the point of making people stronger if you don't consider them your friends? As I said, curiosity. He just experiments and sometimes it turns out to make people stronger, healthier etc. But apparenty he doesn't do it to help anyone.
The field mountain cap is actually the M43 Field cap which means he was in ww2. He either was a combat medic or he was working as a doctor behind the friendly frontlines.

I think Medic likely did attend medical school. As his fascination with bodies, humans and alike would likely need further education and I honestly believe he would've excelled. Yet the things he actually did got his license revoked.
Given what medic has done Id expect him to look down on the Nazis. After all it'd be just horrible to waste so many lives that could be spent in the name of advancing medicine.
