This show is what subverting expectations is supposed to be. Disney Star Wars has been pulling on the reluctant father trope so much in the recent series that we were all primed for what was very evidently a scoundrel with a heart of gold who hit every chord we needed for us to desire and eagerly expect that he would show his true colors and act as a surrogate parent for the kids, only to pull the rug out from under us and show that his true colors were shown to us in the very first episode “the only thing that truly matters, cold… hard… credits.” Nothing matters to Jod more. The kids were a means to getting credits, the crew loving him was a means to getting credits, SM-33 was a means to getting credits. And when those means turn against him he disposes of them without remorse. He’s killed a lot of his crew, he disassembled SM-33 😭, and all that is left in his way is At Attin and the kids. Jod won’t escape At Attin, his crew will assume he died and abandon him, the only question left is what will it cost? I predict that the supervisor will be a droid, Jod will free the onyx cinder, and the kids will shoot him out of the sky using chekov’s school yard AA canon. If the show were more graphic we’d see the golden dataries melt from the blast and envelop Jod as a final and stark metaphor of how his rapacious greed was his ultimate downfall.
I hope thats what they were going for. Brutus was being set up as a villain but on reflection he just looked big and scary and growled a lot but seemed more protective of his crew who Jod was constantly getting killed for nothing. I think the twost was Jod was the one who looked and sounded nice but was really bad, while the big bad wolf guys bark was worse than his bite.
Liked that! I speculated he might meet his end locked in a vault, starving or suffocating to death, in the presence of all the "gold" he could ever have dreamed of (and more)....
I think the kids win, Neel uses the gun on top of the school to stop the pirates, but jod gets away. END credit scene- Jods floating lost in space and ... We see the Chimera (Thrawns Ship) pick him up. Thrawn now has the money to fight the New Republic and has a force user to help fight Ezra and Luke (if he wants to save the galaxy agian.)
He was correct about them at the beginning of the series: "weak, sheltered, spoiled children." I had hoped they would be taught something in school that could benefit them on their adventure, like conflict resolution since the planet's been at peace for 1000 years. They should have negotiated a peace between the tribes on At Achrann, but no. ("At" stands for "Atlantis" someone said.)
Thanks Scotty!! I am crossing my fingers for an epic, long finale. But I am also bracing for a quick and dirty 'and they all lived happily ever after. THE END.' 🤞
Great video. I too was hoping Jod would turn out to be a good guy. But I like this turn better. I know he won’t get away with this heist. But I hope Jod gets away. He’s a great character and potential villain for future content.
Jod has just been a fantastic antagonist! I really didn’t expect him to just shoot Brutus in the face like that. I don’t see him getting redeemed, or at least not fully. I could see him joining the kids if the supervisor turns against all of them. Also I did want him using the lightsaber, but not to behead SM-33 😢. He will probably get repaired so that’s good lol
Or if Gunter snatches the Buoy and use the barrier access code to penetrate the barrier, but at some point the kids have to take the Onyx cinder back out the barrier, but to protect the planet they have to change the barrier access code and get stuck outside the barrier. So have to learn to survive outside the barrier. Wouldn’t have to be pirates - could be what the ghost was to the formation of the rebellion the Onyx Cinder will be to the resistance. Or Perhaps At-Atton finances the resistance?
I think that they realize SM-33 took back the ship for the kids, because at least two of them were thrown out. I agree with the analysis that the Pirates could take the buoy and somehow get the access code and use it to pass through the barrier. Somehow the cannon on top of the school needs to come into play, although Neel would really have to be pressed to fire it. Maybe he just tells his mother, and the adults make the decision. Similarly, it was set up that K.B. could contact Kh'ymm when the time comes who will send X-Wings to the rescue. Maybe she did off-screen and we didn't see it? It does take time to travel through hyperspace (as much time as the plot requires!).
@ exactly maybe Niel just shows them how to activate it - or maybe the parents already know - one of the things they weren’t supposed to know know about until after they graduated.
There have been interviews with the show runners that they definitely have plenty of ideas for future seasons. Peronally, I'd love to have a 2nd season!
I don't want a second season. I would be happy for the characters to return for future Star Wars projects. However, I do not want... Skeleton Crew: KB Fully Looded Skeleton Crew 3: Senior Yearbook Committee Skeleton Crew: The Rise Of Red Tape Accounting
Yeah I agree we have moved beyond a redemption arc for Jod. There is simply no one he is putting on an act for if he is some Agent/Double Agent with a good reason for his actions. That being said we have seen really bad writing in these Disney shows and we might still get a redemption arc. Personally I want to see him sealed in one of the giant Credit Vaults. Now you have all the money you could ever want but you are sealed in forever. I still want his backstory. I want to know how he uses the Force, seems comfortable with a Lightsaber, and why he is such a treacherous Tool. Turns out he is being Puppetted by a Pirate Ghost, is about the only redemption I could possibly see happening. Who knows?
I was pissed when Brutus was killed off. He was posters, he has his own figure, and it seems to be building him up a little. But no they killed him off. HE ONLY HAD ONE ACTION SCENE. Yeah Jod sucks, he killed two awesome characters in one episode. Also did you guys get a Jack Sparrow and Hector Barbossa vibe with Jod and Brutus? Wait, (J)od, (J)ack and (B)rutus, (B)arbossa? What’s a coincidence.
We've been told from the start by the creators that this is _Treasure Island_ or _Treasure Planet_ reversed. Instead of them finding a treasure map and going there, they live on a treasure planet. All this time, I was thinking I hope Jod doesn't escape like Long John Silver did in both films, but is brought to justice for his attack on the freighter and murder of its captain. Fortunately, so far they've decided to reverse Silvo/Jod too and make him not protect Jim (the kids) and be the villain. I think he flared his lightsaber as a warning to the kids, but he will take a knee and turn it into a salute of the parents. He may need their help in dealing with the droids, and charming may be better than threatening. I do want him to have a chance to steal the treasure, a frigate's worth or more, like if his pirates rent a transport that shows up. I think the Emissary has always been a Jedi and they will test him for that. At first he's nervous, but then the blood test shows he's a Force User, so it's all his and he's free to go! But he's caught up in the "Ecstasy of Gold" so he's suspicious of everything and a danger to himself and everyone around him. So he can't leave for fear of betrayal or not being allowed back, and can't leave a load of credits on the frigate. So he wastes so much time agonizing about what to do, that the X-Wings show up, maybe with Luke Skywalker and they have a brief lightsaber battle, like the few moments before Darth Vader disarmed him in _The Empire Strikes Back_ and they both admit they only had 2 weeks of Jedi training. Then the trio show up for a ceremony or negotiations for At Attin to join the New Republic, like the throne room ending of _Star Wars._ Crimson Jack in the comics stole Han's treasure, so they might know each other here. Jod then is imprisoned, but with rehabilitation, so he might be alright in a few years. And the blurb at the end says At Attin put the New Republic on found financial footing, so piracy and austerity were ended and the next 20 years would see economic growth and prosperity in the galaxy.
If its not evident that he was a Padawan who survived Order 66 and doesn't truly understand the Force. He is NOT a truly bad guy, he has never had a real teacher. He is acting like a teenager who never had someone teach him. He will have a hero arc / turn by the end of Episode 8.
I'm calling it! Darth Pirate Jod! Congratz on the 1.3K. You guys deserve it. Great KTA episode. I really enjoyed it. I'm thinking that Jod will take the children as his crew to make sure they won't talk. Or maybe he'll kill off their parents. That end scene looked and felt so threatening. You could take this community as your crew if you had a discord server.

8:11 him yelling at the kids was him projecting his own feelings onto them.

@ Neel attempted to talk peace and even made headway with his long distance love interest.
My wife hates him and feels like he is not worth a redemption arc.
@@Silveralways1 She's gonna feel different when it's revealed who he is.
@Thisistheway2050 I hope so, but in 28 years, I haven't figured out how to change her mind. I hope Jod is successful
Your comments about Jos using what the kids told him in confidence against them really brought home just how despicable his betrayal was.
Good point about Jod possibly using the saber as a means to simultaneously threaten the kids and impress the parents.
"Master Skywalker there's too many of them! What are we to do???!!" 😉
This was such a great episode & I can't wait for the finale! Also, I thoroughly enjoy Royce's runtime statistics!
Thanks Scotty!! I am crossing my fingers for an epic, long finale. But I am also bracing for a quick and dirty 'and they all lived happily ever after. THE END.' 🤞
He’s a pirate at the end of the day. A charismatic, do what I need to do, say what I need to say to survive and advance in life!
Great video. I too was hoping Jod would turn out to be a good guy. But I like this turn better. I know he won’t get away with this heist. But I hope Jod gets away. He’s a great character and potential villain for future content.

Jod iis a real person in a survival mode doing what’s necessary
Ever watch Disney's 1950 Treaure Island adaptation? Jod is Silver.

No they can already get thru the barrier. The buoy has the barrier access codes and it’s outside the barrier where the frigate can now get to it.
if you love him you love him, if you hate him, you love him.
if you feel strongly about a fictional character its a good character.

Their pirates they at all backstabbing mutineers, they don’t care about that. They just follow the most threatening backstabbing mutineer.
I'm calling it! Darth Pirate Jod!

I love to hate him
I think he’s going to threaten the parents.
Jod is not a mutineer he was the captain before Brutus
He was roundly voted out by the whole crew, then murdered Brutus while he was helpless, so yeah, kind of mutiny.
I hope Jod isn't redeemed.
Darth Vader should be the only person allowed to be redeemed, despite threatening children... and he did far worse.
